When driving
Changing shift ranges in S modeTo enter S mode, shift the shift lever to the S position. The shift range can
then be selected by operating the “-” and “+” shift paddle switches or the
shift lever. Changing the shift range al lows restriction of the upper limit of
the gears to be used, preventing unnecessary upshifting and enabling the
level of engine braking force to be selected.

The selected shift range, from 1 to
6, will be displayed in the meter
cluster.
The initial shift range in S mode is auto matically set to 5 or 4 according to
vehicle speed. However, the initial shift range may be set to 3 or 2 if the
AI-SHIFT has operated while the shift lever was in the D position.

■When the “-” shift paddle switch is operated in the D position
When the “-” shift paddle switch is operated in the D position, a shift range will be
automatically selected. The highest gear of the first shift range will be one gear
lower than the gear in use during normal D position driving.
■Automatic deactivated of shift range selection in the D position
Shift range selection in the D position will be deactivated in the following situations:
●When the vehicle comes to a stop
●When range 6 is selected and the accelerator pedal is depressed
●If the accelerator pedal is depressed for more than a certain period of time
■To protect automatic transmission
A function is adopted that automatically se lects a higher shift range when the fluid
temperature is high.
■Gear position disp lay when driving
The current gear is displayed on the multi-information display. ( P. 1 7 2 )
■Downshifting restrictions warning buzzer
To help ensure safety and driving perfor mance, downshifting operation may some-
times be restricted. In some circumstance s, downshifting may not be possible even
when the shift lever or shift paddle switch is operated. (The warning buzzer will
sound twice.)
■When driving with the cruise control syst em or dynamic radar cruise control sys-
tem
Engine braking will not occur during shif t range selection in the D position or S
mode, even when downshifting to range 5 or 4. ( P. 184, 187)
■Snow mode automatic deactivation
Snow mode is automatically deactivated if the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is
turned off after driving in snow mode.

Turn signal lever
■Turn signals can be operated when
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■If the indicators flash faster than usual
Check that a light bulb in the turn signal lights has not burned out.

Gauges and meters
The units used on the speedometer and the tachometer gauge display may
differ depending on the model/type.

The following gauges, meters and display illuminate when the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
Speedometer
Displays the vehicle speed.
Multi-information display

Tachometer
Displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute.
Tacho indicator
When the set engine speed is reached, this ring-shaped indicators comes
on in yellow. The indicator comes on in red when the engine speed
reaches a dangerous range.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
Displays the engine coolant temperature.

■Changing the indicator setting
The satellite switch can be used to change the set speed at which the
yellow speed or tacho ind icator ring comes on.
The setting can be made only when the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch is in IGNITION ON mode and the vehicle is stopped.
Push “
” or “” to select the speed or tach o indicator set mode. ( ) Turn
the speed or tacho indi cator to “OFF” and then “ON” by pushing the
“ON/OFF” button. ( )
After one second, the mode enters
the indicator setting mode.
The speedometer or tachometer

■Speed indicator display conditions and vehicle speed setting range
Vehicle speed setting range: Approximately 30 to 100 mph (approximately 50 to 160 km/h)
When the maximum speed is selected, the speed indicator comes on only in red.
■Tacho indicator display conditions and engine speed setting range
Engine rpm setting range: Approximately 2000 to 6500 rpm (r/min)
When the maximum rpm is selected, the tacho indicator comes on only in red.
■The brightness of the instrument panel lights
When the headlight switch is turned to on, the brightness will be reduced slightly
unless the control dial is turned fully clockwise.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the engine and its components
●Do not let the indicator needle of the tachometer enter the red zone, which indi-
cates the maximum engine speed.
●The engine may be overheating if the temperature gauge is in the red zone (H). In
this case, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place, and check the engine after
it has cooled completely. ( P. 515)

CAUTION
■If a safety system warning light does not come on
Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS warning light not come on
when you start the engine, this could mean that these systems are not available to
help protect you in an accident, which could result in death or serious injury. Have
the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately if this occurs.
*: These lights turn on when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode to indicate that a system check is being per-
formed. They will turn off after the en gine is started, or after a few sec-
onds. There may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not come on,
or if the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer.
■ Warning lights
Warning lights inform the driver of malfunctions in any of the vehi-
cle’s systems. ( P. 4 6 9 )
