Before driving
Closing the fuel tank cap
After refueling, turn the fuel tank
cap until you hear a click. Once
the cap is released, it will turn
slightly in the opposite direction.
■If the fuel filler door opener is inoperable

Use unleaded gasoline. (Octane rating 8
7 [Research Octane Number 91] or
higher)
■Fuel tank capacity
Approximately 14.5 gal. (55 L, 12.5 lmp. gal.)
■Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Lexus allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content is up to
1
0%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a Research
Octane Number that follows the above.
The lever can be used to open the fuel filler
door if the fuel filler door cannot be opened
using the inside switch.

CAUTION
■When refueling the vehicle
Observe the following precautions while refueling the vehicle. Failure to do so may
result in death or serious injury.
●After exiting the vehicle and before opening the fuel door, touch an unpainted
metal surface to discharge any static electricity. It is important to discharge static
electricity before refueling because sparks resulting from static electricity can
cause fuel vapors to ignite while refueling.
●Always hold the grips on the fuel tank cap and turn it slowly to remove it. 
A whooshing sound may be heard when the fuel tank cap is loosened. Wait until
the sound cannot be heard before fully re moving the cap. In hot weather, pressur-
ized fuel may spray out of the filler neck and cause injury.
●Do not allow anyone that has not discharged static electricity from their body to
come close to an open fuel tank.
●Do not inhale vaporized fuel. 
Fuel contains substances that are harmful if inhaled.
●Do not smoke while refueling the vehicle. 
Doing so may cause the fuel to ignite and cause a fire.
●Do not return to the vehicle or touch an y person or object that is statically
charged. 
This may cause static electricity to build up , resulting in a possible ignition hazard.
■When refueling
Securely insert the fuel nozzle into the fuel filler neck. If fuel is added with the nozzle
slightly lifted away from the fuel filler neck, the automatic shut off function may not
operate, resulting in fuel overflowing from the tank.
■When replacing the fuel cap
Do not use anything but a genuine Lexus fuel tank cap designed for your vehicle.
Doing so may cause a fire or other incident which may result in death or serious
injury.

Doing so may damage the vehicle, such as causing the emission control system to
operate abnormally or damaging fuel syst em components or the vehicle’s painted
surface.

■Operating your vehicle in a foreign country
Comply with the relevant vehicle registration laws and confirm the availability of the
correct fuel. (P. 5 5 0 )
■For efficient use
●Select the D position when driving. 
In the N position, the gasoline engine op erates but electricity cannot be gener-
ated. The hybrid battery (traction battery) will discharge, requiring unnecessary
engine power to recharge.
●Drive your vehicle smoothly. 
Avoid abrupt acceleration and deceleration. Gradual acceleration and decel-
eration will make more effective use of the electric motor (traction motor) with-
out having to use gasoline engine power.
●Avoid repeated acceleration. 
Repeated acceleration consumes hybrid battery (traction battery) power,
resulting in poor acceleration. Battery power can be restored by driving with
the accelerator pedal slightly released.
●Select the P position when parking. 
In the N position, the hybrid battery (traction battery) does not recharge. 
Leaving the N position selected for an extended period of time may discharge
the hybrid battery. The vehicle cannot ru n if the hybrid battery is discharged.
■Environment-friendly driving
■Customization
Settings for the Eco Driving Indicator Light can be changed. 
(Customizable features P. 5 7 2 )
During environment-friendly acceleration
operation (Eco driving), the Eco Driving Indi-
cator Light will turn on. When the accelerator
pedal is depressed excessively, and when the
vehicle is stopped, the light turns off.
The Eco Driving Indicator Light will operate
when the vehicle is being driven with the shift
position in D. The indicator will not operate
when the vehicle is in power mode or EV
drive mode. ( P. 1 5 0 ,

■Fuel economy
HS250h is designed to achieve the best possible fuel economy during normal driv-
ing (using the gasoline engine and electric motor [traction motor]). Driving in EV
drive mode more than necessary may lower fuel economy.
CAUTION
■Caution while driving
When driving in EV drive mode, pay special attention to the area around the vehi-
cle. Because there is no engine noise, pedestrians, people riding bicycles or other
people and vehicles in the area may not be aware of the vehicle starting off or
approaching them, so take extra care while driving.

●Changing the shift position from P to other positions:
• While depressing the brake pedal firmly, operate the shift lever. If the

will sound and the shifting operation will be disabled.
• The shift position cannot be changed from P to B directly.

When driving
■Selecting a driving mode
The following modes can be selected to suit driving conditions:
Eco mode
Suitable for improving the fuel
economy, because the torque
corresponding to the accelera-

the air conditioning system will
be minimized.
When the Eco mode switch is

■For the shift positions
●When the “POWER” switch is off, the shift position cannot be changed.
●When the “POWER” switch is in ON mo de, the shift position can only be
changed to N.
●When the “READY” indicator is on, the sh ift position can be changed from P to
D, N or R.
●The shift position can only be changed to B directly from D.
In addition, if the shift position is change d in any of
the following situations, the
buzzer will sound and the shifting operation wi ll be disabled or the shift position will
automatically change to N. When this happens, select an appropriate shift position.
● Situations where the shifting operation will be disabled:
• When the shift lever is changed from P to
another position without depress-
ing the brake pedal.
• When the shift position is changed from P or N to B.
● Situations where the shift position will automatically change to N:
• When the P position switch is pressed while the vehicle is running.
• When shift position R is selected when the vehicle is moving forward.
• When shift position D is selected when the vehicle is moving in reverse.
• When the shift position is changed from R to B.
■Reverse warning buzzer
When shifting into R, a buzzer will sound to inform the
driver that the shift position is
in R.
■About engine braking
When shift position B is selected, releasing the accelerator pedal will apply engine
br
aking.
• When the vehicle is driven at high sp eeds, comp
ared to ordinary gasoline-
fueled vehicles, the engine braking deceleration is felt less than that of other
vehicles.
• The vehicle can be accelerated even when shift position B is selected.
If the vehicle is driven continuously in the B posi
tion, fuel efficiency will become low.
Usually, select the D position.
