The key code number is stamped on the
plate attached to the key set. Should you
lose your keys, this number will enable
an authorized Kia dealer to duplicate the
keys easily. Remove the plate and store it
in a safe place. Also, record the code
number and keep it in a safe and handy
place, but not in the vehicle. Use only
Kia-approved key blanks.Key operations
(1) Master keyUsed to start the engine, lock andunlock the doors, and open the trunk
(if equipped).
(2) Transmitter (if equipped) Used to lock and unlock the doors.

WARNING - Ignition key
Leaving children unattended in a
vehicle with the ignition key is dan-
gerous even if the key is not in the
ignition. Children copy adults and
they could place the key in the igni-
tion. The ignition key would enable
children to operate power windows
or other controls, or even make the
vehicle move, which could result in
serious bodily injury or even death.
Never leave the keys in your vehicle
with unsupervised children.

CAUTION
Use only Kia original parts for theignition key in your vehicle. If an aftermarket key is used, the ignitionswitch may not return to ON afterSTART. If this happens, the starter will continue to operate causingdamage to the starter motor and possible fire due to excessive cur-rent in the wiring.

Repairing or scrapping the vehicle
Repairing/replacing the steeringwheel, instrument panel, center con-
sole headliner/pillar trim, or modifying
vehicle sheet metal components could
disable the air bag system. Have such
repairs and maintenance performed by
an authorized Kia dealer.
Special care must be taken in scrap- ping or junking an air bag-equipped
vehicle. Always refer such activities to
a qualified professional.
WARNING- No mainte-
nance or repair
Do not work on the air bag sys-
tem’s components or wiring. This
could cause the air bags to inflate
inadvertently, possibly seriously
injuring someone. Working on the
system could also disable the
system so that the air bags would
not deploy in a collision.
Any work on the air bag system, such as removing, installing, or
repairing the steering wheel must
be performed by a qualified Kia
technician. Improper handling of
the air bag system including the
steering wheel may result in seri-
ous personal injury or death.
Air bag warning label
Air bag warning labels which are now required by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
(CMVSS) are attached to alert driver and passengers of potential risk of air bag system.
Note that these government warnings focus on the risk to children, Kia also wants you to be
aware of the risks which adults are exposed to. Those have been described in previous pages.

Fuses
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected
from electrical overload damage by
fuses.
This vehicle has two fuse panels, one
located in the driver's side panel bolster,
the other in the engine compartment
near the battery.If any of your vehicle’s lights, acces-
sories, or controls do not work, check the
appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has
blown, the element inside the fuse will be
melted.
If the electrical system does not work,
first check the driver’s side fuse panel.
Always replace a blown fuse with one of
the same rating.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indi-
cates an electrical problem. Avoid using
the system involved and immediately
consult an authorized Kia dealer.
Two kinds of fuses are used: standard for
lower amperage rating and main for high-er amperage ratings.

Do not use a screwdriver or any other
metal object to remove fuses because it
may cause a short circuit and damage
the system.
WARNING - Fuse replace-
ment
Never replace a fuse with any-
thing but another fuse of the
same rating.
A higher capacity fuse could cause damage through overheat-
ing and possibly a fire.
Never install a wire instead of the proper fuse - even as a temporary
repair. It may cause extensive
wiring damage and possibly a
fire.
