Battery replacement
The transmitter uses a 3 volt lithium bat-
tery which will normally last for several
years. When replacement is necessary,
use the following procedure.
1. Remove the screw (1) using a cross-
tip screwdriver. (Type A only) 2. Insert a slim tool into the slot and gen-
tly pry open the transmitter center
cover (2).
3. Remove the battery cover (3, Type A only).
4. Replace the battery with new one. When replacing the battery, make sure
the battery positive “+” symbol faces
up as indicated in the illustration.
5. Install the battery in the reverse order of removal.

Keep the transmitter away from
water or any liquid. If the keyless

authorized KIA dealer to reprogram the
transmitter.
CAUTION
The keyless entry system trans-mitter is designed to give youyears of trouble-free use, howev-
er it can malfunction if exposed tomoisture or static electricity. Ifyou are unsure how to use your transmitter or replace the battery,
contact an authorized KIA dealer.
Using the wrong battery can cause the transmitter to malfunc-tion. Be sure to use the correctbattery.
To avoid damaging the transmit- ter, don't drop it, get it wet, orexpose it to heat or sunlight.
CAUTION
An inappropriately disposed bat-tery can be harmful to the environ-
ment and human health.Dispose the battery according toyour local law(s) or regulation.

This system is designed to provide pro-
tection from unauthorized entry into the
car. This system is operated in three
stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the
second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and
the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If trig-
gered, the system provides an audible
alarm with blinking of the hazard warning
lights. Armed stage
Park the car and stop the engine. Arm
the system as described below.
1. Remove the ignition key from the igni-
tion switch and exit the vehicle.
2. Make sure that all doors (and tailgate) and the engine hood are closed and latched.
3. Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above, the
hazard warning lights will blink once to
indicate that the system is armed.
If any door (or tailgate) or engine hood
remains open, the hazard warning lights
will not blink and the theft-alarm will not
arm. If all doors (and tailgate) and engine
hood are closed after the lock button is
pressed, the hazard warning lights blink
once. Do not arm the system until all pas-
sengers have left the vehicle. If thesystem is armed while a passen-
ger(s) remains in the vehicle, the
alarm may be activated when the
remaining passenger(s) leave the
vehicle. If any door (or tailgate) orengine hood is opened within 30
seconds after the system enters the
armed stage, the system is dis-
armed to prevent unnecessaryalarm.

Theft-alarm stage
The alarm will be activated if any of the
following occurs while the system is
armed.
A front or rear door is opened withoutusing the transmitter.
The tailgate is opened without using the transmitter.
The engine hood is opened.The siren will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously for
27 seconds, unless the system is dis-
armed. To turn off the system, unlock the
doors with the ignition key (*) or transmit-
ter.
(*) : To enable the ignition key to function, consult your authorized KIA dealer. Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when the
doors are unlocked by depressing the
unlock button on the transmitter.
After depressing unlock button, the haz-
ard warning lights will blink twice to indi-
cate that the system is disarmed.
After depressing unlock button, if any
door is not opened within 30 seconds,
the system will be rearmed.✽✽
NOTICE - Non-immobilizer system
Avoid trying to start the engine while the alarm is activated. The vehicle
starting motor is disabled during the
theft-alarm stage.
If the system is not disarmed with the
transmitter, insert the key into the
ignition switch, turn the ignition
switch to the ON position and wait for
30 seconds. Then the system will be
disarmed.
If you lose your keys, consult your
authorized KIA dealer.

✽ NOTICE - Immobilizer system
If the system is not disarmed with the transmitter, insert the key into the
ignition switch and start the engine.
Then the system will be disarmed.
If you lose your keys, consult your
authorized KIA dealer.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust the
theft-alarm system because it couldcause the theft-alarm system tomalfunction and should only be
serviced by an authorized KIA deal-er.
Malfunctions caused by improperalterations, adjustments or modifi- cations to the theft-alarm system
are not covered by your vehicle manufacturer warranty.

Operating door locks from out-
side the vehicle
Turn the key toward rear of vehicle to
unlock and toward front of vehicle to
lock.
If you lock/unlock the door with a key, all vehicle doors will lock/unlock auto-
matically. (if equipped) Doors can also be locked and unlocked
with the transmitter (if equipped).
Once the doors are unlocked, they may be opened by pulling the door handle.
When closing the door, push the door by hand. Make sure that doors are
closed securely.
✽✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, door lock and door mechanisms may not work
properly due to freezing conditions.
If the door is locked/unlocked multi- ple times in rapid succession with
either the vehicle key or door lock
switch, the system may stop operating
temporarily in order to protect the
circuit and prevent damage to system
components.
In case of an emergency
If the power door lock switch does not
operate electrically, you can only lock the
door(s) with the ignition key from the out-
side key hole.
The doors without the outside key hole,
you can lock as follows;
1. Open the door.
2. Insert the key into the emergency door lock hole and turn the key horizontally
to lock.
3. Close the door securely.
The tailgate will lock and will not unlock if
you close the tailgate when the power
door lock switch does not operate electri-
cally.

WARNING
Do not lock the doors by super
locking with the key or the trans-
mitter with anybody left in the vehi-
cle. The passenger in the vehicle
cannot unlock the doors with the
inside handle or the door lock
switch. For example, if the door is
locked with the transmitter, the pas-
senger in the vehicle cannot unlock
the door without the transmitter.

the vehicle
With the door handle
Driver’s door / Front passenger’s door (Type A, if equipped)
If the inner door handle of the front door
is pulled when the door is locked, the
door will unlock and open.
Rear door /Front passenger’s door (Type B)
If the inner door handle is pulled once
when the door is locked, the door will
unlock.
If the inner door handle is pulled twice, the door will open.
With central door lock switch
It is operated by depressing the door lock
switch.
When pushing the door lock switch, all vehicle doors will lock and the indicator
light on the switch will illuminate.
If any door is opened when the switch
is pushed, all doors will not lock.
If any door is unlocked, the indicator of the door lock switch will blink. If you
push the switch when the indicator is
blinking, all doors will lock.
When pushing the door lock switch again, all vehicle doors will unlock and
the indicator light on the switch will not
illuminate. Super lock system (if equipped)
If you turn the key to the “LOCK” position
or depress the “LOCK” button on the
transmitter to lock the doors, the locked
doors are not unlocked by other tools
except unlocking with the key or trans-
mitter.
This feature is to prevent potential intrud-
ers from opening the door.

Leaving your vehicle unlocked can
invite theft or possible harm to you
or others from someone hiding in
your vehicle while you are gone.
Always remove the ignition key,
engage the parking brake, close all
windows and lock all doors when
leaving your vehicle unattended.WARNING - Unattended
children
An enclosed vehicle can become
extremely hot, causing death or
severe injury to unattended chil-dren or animals who cannot escape
the vehicle. Furthermore, children
might operate features of the vehi-
cle that could injure them, or they
could encounter other harm, possi-
bly from someone gaining entry to
the vehicle. Never leave children or
animals unattended in your vehicle.WARNING - Doors
The doors should always be fully closed and locked while the vehi-
cle is in motion to prevent acci-
dental opening of the door.
Locked doors will also discour-
age potential intruders when the
vehicle stops or slows.
Be careful when opening doors and watch for vehicles, motorcy-
cles, bicycles or pedestrians
approaching the vehicle in the
path of the door. Opening a door
when something is approaching
can cause damage or injury.

Opening the tailgate
The tailgate is locked or unlocked when
all doors are locked or unlocked with the
key, transmitter or central door lock
switch.
Only the tailgate is unlocked if the only tailgate unlock button on the transmitter
is pressed (if equipped). Once the tail-gate is opened and then closed, the tail-
gate is locked automatically. If unlocked, the tailgate can be opened
by pressing the handle and pulling it up.

When jacking up the vehicle to
change a tire or repair the vehicle, do
not operate the tailgate. This could
cause the tailgate to close improperly.
Closing the tailgate
To close the tailgate, lower and push
down the tailgate firmly. Make sure thatthe tailgate is securely latched.

open, keep the air vents and all win-
dows open so that additional out-
side air comes into the vehicle.
WARNING - Rear cargo area
Occupants should never ride in the
rear cargo area where no restraints
are available. To avoid injury in the
event of an accident or sudden
stops, occupants should always be
properly restrained.
