With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heatingsystem and heated or cooled according to the function selected. NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating in "Recircu- lation" mode ( ) will give rise to fogging of the windshield and sidewindows and the air within the pas- senger compartment will become stale. In addition, prolonged use ofthe air conditioning with the "Recir- culation" mode ( ) selected may result in the air within the passengercompartment becoming excessively dry.

This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculating inside air. To change the air intake control mode(Fresh mode, Recirculation mode), push the control button. FRESH MODE ( ) : The indicator
light on the button goes off when the air intake control is fresh mode. RECIRCULATION MODE ( ): The

Your Hyundai is equipped with bi-level heating controls. This makes it pos- sible to have cooler air from the dash-board vents and warmer air from the floor outlets at the same time. To use this feature:
o Set the air intake control to the fresh air ( ) position.
o Set the air flow control at the bi-level
( ) position.
o Set the temperature control between
"Cool" and "Warm".

For faster heating, the air intake control should be set in the recirculate ( )position. If the windows fog up, set the air flow control to the defrost ( ) position and the air intake control to the fresh air ( ) position. For maximum heat, move the tempera- ture control to "Warm".

o Set the air flow control to the defrost

o If the vehicle is equipped with a air conditioning system, turn on the air conditioning switch.

o Set the fan speed control to position "3" or "4".
o Set the temperature control to warm. NOTE: When the A/C is operated continu- ously on the floor-defrost level ( ) or defrost level ( ), it may causefog to form on the exterior wind- shield. To remove the frost or exterior fog on the windshield:Use the heating/ventilation system to defrost or defog the windshield: To remove interior fog on the windshield:

o To keep dust or unpleasant fumes
from entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake control at "Recircula- tion (
)". Be sure to return the
control to "Fresh (
)" when the
irritation has passed to keep fresh air in the vehicle. This will help keep thedriver alert and comfortable.
o Air for the heating/cooling system is
drawn in through the grilles justahead of the windshield. Care should be taken that these are not blocked by leaves, snow, ice or other ob-structions.
o To prevent interior fog on the wind-
shield, set the air intake control tothe fresh air ( ) position, fan speed to the desired position, turn on the air conditioning system, and adjust tem-perature control to desired tempera- ture.

For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch (2).
o Turn on the air conditioning switch
(5). The air conditioning indicatorlight should come on at the sametime.
o Set the air intake control (4) to the
fresh air ( ) position.
o Set the air flow control (1) to the face ( ) position.
o Adjust the fan control (2) to the de- sired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at
one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control (3) to provide the desired amount ofwarmth.B740C01A-AAT De-Humidified Heating
To use the air conditioning to cool the interior:
o Turn on the fan control switch (2).
o Turn on the air conditioning switch
(5) by pushing in on the switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control (4) to the
position.
o Set the temperature control (3) to
"Cool". ("Cool" provides maximum cooling. The temperature may be moderated by moving the control toward "Warm".)
o Adjust the fan control (2) to the de- sired speed. For greater cooling, turnthe fan control to one of the higherspeeds or temporarily select the
position on the air intake control.

o If the interior of the car is hot when
you first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air condi-
tioning system, keep all windowsclosed to keep hot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy
traffic, shift to a lower gear.This increases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air condi- tioning off to avoid the possibility ofthe engine over-heating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not usedregularly, run the air conditioningonce every month for a few min- utes. This will help circulate the lubricantsand keep your system in peak oper- ating condition.
! CAUTION:
o If the car is being driven in severe conditions such as dusty, rough roads, more frequent climate con- trol air filter inspections are re-quired.
o When the air flow rate is decreased,
it must be checked at an autho-rized dealer.

o Turn the ignition key to position
"ON" and wait for the pre-heat indi- cator light to go out.
o Operate the starter until the engine
runs.
ENGINE WARM Operate the starter. If the engine does not respond on the first attempt, wait several seconds and try again usingthe pre-heat. C050B01HR-GAT NORMAL CONDITIONS The Starting Procedure:
1. Insert key, and fasten the seat belt.
2. Depress the clutch pedal fully and
place the gearshift lever in neutral.
3. After turning the ignition key to the "ON" position, make certain all warn- ing lights and gauges are function- ing properly before starting the en-gine.
4. On vehicles equipped with the die-
sel preheat indicator light, turn theignition key to the "ON" position. The diesel pre-heat indicator light will first illuminate in amber, andthen after a short time, the amber illumination will go off, indicating that preheating is completed.

(1) Do not race, accelerate suddenly,
or accelerate immediately the en- gine after starting it. If the engine iscold, allow the engine to idle for several seconds before it is driven to ensure sufficient lubrication ofthe turbo charger unit. WARNING:
Be sure that the clutch is fully de- pressed when starting a manual transmission vehicle. Otherwisethere is the potential to cause dam- age to the vehicle or injury to some- one inside or outside the vehicle asa result of the forward or backward movement of the vehicle that will occur if the clutch is not depressedwhen the vehicle is started.
5. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and release it when the engine starts.
WARNING:
Do not turn the engine off immedi-ately after it has been subjected to aheavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine or turbo charger unit. High speed driving

(2) After high speed driving or prolonged
engine loading, the engine should be allowed to idle, as shown in the chart below, before turning it off. This idle time will allow the turbocharger to cool prior to shutting the engine off.
