G070200AEN Changing the coolant
Have coolant changed by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer according to theMaintenance Schedule at the beginningof this section.
WARNING - Radiator cap
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine and radiator are
hot. Scalding hot coolant and
steam may blow out under pres-
sure causing serious injury.
CAUTION
Put a thick cloth around the radiator cap before refilling the coolant inorder to prevent the coolant fromoverflowing into engine parts suchas the generator.
WARNING - Coolant
Do not use radiator coolant or antifreeze in the washer fluid
reservoir.
Radiator coolant can severely obscure visibility when sprayed
on the windshield and may cause
loss of vehicle control or damage
to paint and body trim.

Maintenance
G100100ABK It is recommended that the automatic
transmission fluid should be checked or
changed at an authorized HYUNDAIdealer in accordance to the scheduled
maintenance.G280100ABK
It is recommended that the manual trans-
mission fluid should be checked or
changed at an authorized HYUNDAIdealer in accordance to the scheduled
maintenance.

Checking the washer fluid level
The reservoir is translucent so that you
can check the level with a quick visualinspection.
Check the fluid level in the washer fluid
reservoir and add fluid if necessary. Plain
water may be used if washer fluid is not
available. However, use washer solvent
with antifreeze characteristics in cold cli-
mates to prevent freezing.

CAUTION
The use of a non-specified fluid
could result in transmission mal-
function and failure.
Use only specified automatic trans-mission fluid. (Refer to“Recommended lubricants andcapacities” in section 8.)

AIR CLEANER
G160100ABK Filter replacement
It must be replaced when necessary, and
should not be washed.
You can clean the filter when inspecting the air cleaner element.
Clean the filter by using compressed air.1. Loosen the air cleaner cover attaching
clips and open the cover. 2. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner.
3. Replace the air cleaner filter.
4. Lock the cover with the cover attaching
clips.
Replace the filter according to the
Maintenance Schedule.
If the vehicle is operated in extremely dusty or sandy areas, replace the
element more often than the usual recommended intervals. (Refer to “Maintenance under severe usage condi-tions” in this section.)

G170100AEN Filter inspection The climate control air filter should be replaced according to the Maintenance
Schedule. If the vehicle is operated in
severely air-polluted cities or on dusty
rough roads for a long period, it shouldbe inspected more frequently and
replaced earlier. When you replace the
climate control air filter, replace it per-
forming the following procedure, and be
careful to avoid damaging other compo-
nents. G170200ABK Filter replacement
1. Open the glove box and remove the
support rod (1).CAUTION
Do not drive with the air cleaner
removed; this will result in exces-
sive engine wear.
When removing the air cleaner fil- ter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake, or
damage may result.
Use a HYUNDAI genuine part. Use of non-genuine parts could dam-age the air flow sensor.

EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
G270000AEN
The emission control system of your
vehicle is covered by a written limited
warranty. Please see the warranty infor-
mation contained in the Service Passport
in your vehicle.
Your vehicle is equipped with an emis-
sion control system to meet all applicable
emission regulations. There are three emission control sys-
tems, as follows.
(1) Crankcase emission control system
(2) Evaporative emission control system(3) Exhaust emission control system In order to assure the proper function of
the emission control systems, it is rec-
ommended that you have your car
inspected and maintained by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer in accordance with
the maintenance schedule in this manu-al. Caution for the Inspection and
Maintenance Test (With Electronic
Stability Program (ESP) system)
To prevent the vehicle from misfir-
ing during dynamometer testing,
turn the Electronic Stability
Program (ESP) system off by press-
ing the ESP switch.
After dynamometer testing is com- pleted, turn the ESP system back on
by pressing the ESP switch again. G270100AUN
1. Crankcase emission control
system
The positive crankcase ventilation sys-
tem is employed to prevent air pollution
caused by blow-by gases being emitted
from the crankcase. This system supplies
fresh filtered air to the crankcase through
the air intake hose. Inside the crankcase,
the fresh air mixes with blow-by gases,
which then pass through the PCV valveinto the induction system.
G270200AUN
2. Evaporative emission control system
The Evaporative Emission Control
System is designed to prevent fuel
vapors from escaping into the atmos-
phere.
