Checking the amount of air con-
ditioner refrigerant and compres-
sor lubricant
When the amount of refrigerant is low,
the performance of the air conditioning is
reduced. Overfilling also has a bad influ-
ence on the air conditioning system.
Therefore, if abnormal operation is
found, have the system inspected by an
authorized Hyundai dealer.
✽ ✽
NOTICE
When the performance of the air condi-
tioning system is reduced it is important
that the correct type and amount of oil
and refrigerant is used. Otherwise, dam-
age to the compressor and abnormal
system operation may occur.
CAUTION
The air conditioning system should
be serviced by an authorized Hyundai dealer. Improper servicemay cause serious injury to the per- son performing the service.

Automatic heating and air condi-
tioning
The automatic climate control system is
controlled by simply setting the desired
temperature.
The Full Automatic Temperature Control
(FATC) system automatically controls the
heating and cooling system as follows;
1. Push the AUTO button. It is indicated
by AUTO on the display. The modes,
fan speeds, air intake and air-condi-
tioning will be controlled automatically
by temperature setting. 2. Push the TEMP button to set the
desired temperature.
If the temperature is set to the lowest
setting LO, the air conditioning system
will operate continuously.
3. To turn the automatic operation off, press any button except temperature
control button. If you press the mode
selection button, air-conditioning but-
ton, defrost button, air intake control
button or fan speed button, the select-
ed function will be controlled manually
while other functions operate automat-
ically.
Regardless of the temperature setting,
when using automatic operation, the air
conditioning system can automatically
turn on to decrease the humidity inside
the vehicle, even if the temperature is set
to warm.

Recirculated air position
The indicator light on the but-
ton is illuminated when the
recirculated air position is
selected.
With the recirculated air posi- tion selected, air from pas-
senger compartment will be
drawn through the heating
system and heated or cooled
according to the function
selected.
Outside (fresh) air position The indicator light on the but-
ton is not illumimated when
the outside (fresh) air posi-
tion is selected.
With the outside (fresh) air
position selected, air enters
the vehicle from outside and
is heated or cooled according
to the function selected.✽ ✽NOTICE
It should be noted that prolonged oper-
ation of the heating in recirculated air
position will cause fogging of the wind-
shield and side windows and the air
within the passenger compartment will
become stale.
In addition, prolonged use of the air
conditioning with the recirculated air
position selected, will result in excessive-
ly dry air in the passenger compart-
ment.
WARNING
Continued use of the climate con-
trol system operation in the recir-
culated air position may allow
humidity to increase inside vehi-
cle which may fog the glass and
obscure visibility.
Do not sleep in a vehicle with air conditioning or heating system
on. It may cause serious harm or
death due to a drop in the oxygen
level and/or body temperature.
Continued use of the climate con- trol system operation in the
reciruclated air position can
cause drowsiness or sleepiness,
and loss of vehicle control. Set
the air intake control to the out-
side (fresh) air position as much
as possible while driving.

WINDSHIELD DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING
CAUTION - Windshield heating
Do not use the or position
during cooling operation inextremely humid weather. The dif-ference between the temperature ofthe outside air and that of the wind-shield could cause the outer sur-face of the windshield to fog up,causing loss of visibility. In thiscase, set the mode selection knobor button to the position andfan speed control knob or button tothe lower speed.
