When a yellow warning symbol appears, one warning tone sounds.
A driver message appears as well to explain the malfunc tion in more
detail. The driver warning goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can
be brought up at any time by pressing the
!SE T) button again.
Check the function disp layed as soon as possible . The ye llow
symbol will not go out again until the reason for the malfunction has
been corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the symbols appear in
succession and remain for about 2 seconds .

malfunction occurs during travel. You can continue to drive care­

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle and start the engine
with the master key with remote control.
@ Em erg ency key
The emergency key is not in tended for constant use . It sho uld only
be used in an emergency . Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it
on your key ring.
K ey repl aceme nt
If you lose a key, contact your authori zed Audi dealer immed iate ly
to have the
lost key disabled . Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
D ata in the ma ster key
During driving, service and maintenance -re levant data is continu ­
ously s tored on your master key . Your Audi service adviser can read
out this data and tel l you about the work your vehic le needs. This
applies als o to vehic les with convenience key*.
P ersonal comf ort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recommended that each person
always uses "their own" master key. When the igni tion is turned off
or when the vehicle is locked, persona l convenience settings for the
f ollowi ng sys tems are store d and assigned to the remot e master
key.

T he stored setti ngs are automatically recalled when you unlock the
vehic le, when you open the doors or when you turn on the ignition.
& WARNING
• Do not leave your vehicle unattended with the key in the igni ­
tion lock . Entry by unauthorized per sons co uld end anger you or
result in theft or damage th e vehicle . Alway s lock all doors and
take the key .
• Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle , especiall y with
acce ss to vehi cle key s. Unguarded access to the key s prov ide s
children the opportunity to start th e engine and /or a ctivate vehicle
sys tem s such as the po wer windo ws et c. Un supervi sed oper ation
of any v ehi cle system by children can result in serio us injur y.
• Do not remove the key from the ig nition lock until the vehicle
ha s com e to a complete s top. Otherwi se the steering column lock
could suddenly engage -cau sing the ri sk of an accident. .,

[ i J Tips
• The operation of the remote control key can be temporarily
disrupted by interference from transmitters in the vicinity of the
vehicle working in the same frequency range {e .g . a cell phone,
radio equipment).
• If you open the driver's door with the key left in the ignition lock,
a chime will sound. This is your reminder to remove the key and lock
the door.
• For security reasons, replacement keys are only available from
Audi dealers.

Check light in the master key
The check light in the master key provides information
about different conditions.

The check light comes on briefly once when a button is pressed, and
during an "inquiry" by the convenience key system.

If the check light does not come on, the battery is dead and has to
be replaced. In addition, when the battery is dead the symbol
appears in the instrument cluster display as well as the message :

We recommend having the battery changed by an autho ­
rized Audi dealer. However, if you wish to replace the dead
battery yourself, proceed as follows:
- Press the release button @=>fig. 30.

repair facility. •
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for power locking
in the radio or
MM/*.

In the Central locking menu you ca n decide which doo rs

- Press the
I CARI funct ion button.
- Select
Central locking . The Central locking menu ap pears
=> fig . 36.
For example , if you switch the item Un lo ck ing sin g le doo r On , the
passenger's door is no longer included in the power locking system,
and will not be unlocked by pressing the unlock button on the
master key remote control.
You can continue to unlock all the doors and the rear lid as before .
Press the opening button on the master key twice .
I n addition to this, the
Auto lock ing can be switched on and off.
When locking the vehicle, all doors and the trunk lid are locked auto­
matically .

If you switch Trun k lid /tailgate On , then the handle on the rear lid
~ pag e 47, fig. 44 is locked . In th is case the rear lid can be opened
with the button~ on the master key~ fig. 37 or with the unlocking
button in the driver's door~
page 47, fig. 43.
When you select
Confirmation tone On , a confirmation tone sounds
when you lock the vehicle. •

Opening and closing
- Push the red
I PANIC I button (@ ) to activate the panic
function. The horn sounds and the turn signals flash.
Push the red [PANIC] button again to deactivate the
panic function.
If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear lid or the hood is
opened within 60 seconds, the vehicle locks itself again automati­
cally. This feature prevents the vehicle from being accidentally left
unlocked over a long period of time.
I t depends on the settings in th e radio or MMI* whether the entire
vehicle is unlocked or only certain doors~
page 43.
On vehicles with automatic transmission *, t he selector lever must
be in the P position, otherwise the vehicle cannot be locked.

Read and follow all WARNINGS ~ & in "General description" on
page 41.
[ i ] Tips
• In order to make sure the locking function is working, you should
always keep your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is properly
locked .
• Do not use the remote control if you are inside the car, otherwise
you may uninten tionally lock the vehicle, and then you would set off
the anti -theft alarm when you try to start the engine or open a door.
In case this happens anyhow, push the unlock button
0 .
• Use the panic function only if you are in an emergency
situation. •

Unlocking and locking with convenience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked and locked
without operating the master key.

- Take hold of the door handle. The door is unlocked auto-
matically.
- Pull the handle to open the door.

P position (automatic
transmission*), otherwise the vehicle cannot be locked. _,,,

Emergency locking of the passenger's door
If the power locking system fails (power failure), you will
need to lock the passenger door separately.

An emergency locking mechanism is integrated in the edge
of the passenger's door {only visible when the door is open).
- Take the mechanical key out of the master key~
page 40.
- Open the door.
-Pull the protective cover out of the hole ~ fig . 42.
- Insert the mechanical key into the inner slot and turn it to the right as far as it can go .
After you close th e door, you will no longer be able to open it from
the outside. The door can be opened from the inside by pulling once on the door handle. •

Using the sun visors makes driving safer.

Vanity mirror
The vanity mirrors on the sun visors are covered . When the lid is
opened
G) , the mirror light in the headliner turns on automatically.
It turns off when the lid is closed and the visor is folded up again. •

- To extend/retract the rear window sun shade, press the

The rear window sun shade can be set in the MMI* so that it retracts
automatically when driving in reverse. Select [CAR]> Window>
Rear window sun shade> On to do this . The sun shade is extended
again as soon as the vehicle is t raveling forward at a speed greater
than 9 mph (15 km/h) if the ignition has not been switched off in the
meantime . The current setting is automatically stored and assigned
to the remote k ey. •
