TOWING THE CAR
The tow ring provided with the car is
housed in the tool box under the boot
mat.
FASTENING THE TOW
RING fig. 42-43
Proceed as follows:
❒release the cap A(only present in the
rear section Fig. 43);
❒take the tow hook Bfrom its seat in
the tool support;
❒tighten the ring on the rear or front
threaded pin.
Before beginning the tow,
turn the ignition key to MAR
and then to STOP, without extract-
ing it If the key is extracted, the steer-
ing wheel lock will be automatically
activated, thus preventing steering
WARNING
Because of the vehicle con-
formation, it cannot be
loaded onto railway carriages and
transported.
WARNING
The power brakes and the
electrical power steering will
not work while the car is being towed.
More effort on the brake pedal and
steering wheel will therefore be re-
quired. Do not use wires for towing.
Do not jerk. Make sure not to dam-
age parts in contact with the car
while towing. Respect the specific
rules of the Highway Code when tow-
ing the car specifically in relation to
the towing device and the behaviour
to maintain on the road.
Do not start the engine while towing
the car.

Thousands of kilometres
Check rear disk brake pad conditions and wear
Replace the air filter cartridge
Top up fluids (engine coolant,
brakes, windscreen washer, battery, etc.)
Check the conditions of the distribution control toothed belt
Replace the distribution control toothed belt (*)
Replace the spark plugs (❍)
Check engine control system operation
(through diagnosis socket)
Check the mechanical gearbox oil level
Change engine oil and replace oil filter (or every 24 months)
Change brake fluid (or every 24 months)
Change the pollen filter (or anyway every year)
Check emissions at the exhaust
(*) Regardless of the km covered, the timing belt shall be replaced every 4 years for particularly demanding use (cold climates,
driving in the city, idling for a long time) or in any case every 5 years
If the car is mainly used for driving in the city, and in any case with an annual mileage of below 10,000 km, change
engine oil and filter every 12 months.
(❍) In order to ensure correct efficiency and avoid damaging the engine, it is necessary to:
- exclusively use certified spark plugs specific for the 1.4 TB BZ Abarth engines. All candles to be fitted must be
of the same type and same manufacturer (see recommendations reported in the “Engine” paragraph);
- strictly respect the candles’ Scheduled Maintenance Plan;
- it is recommended to apply to Abarth Dealership.

DEMANDING
USE OF THE CAR
Should prevailing use of the car be under
one of the following specially heavy con-
ditions:
❒dusty roads;
❒short distances (less than 7-8 km) re-
peated and with external tempera-
tures below zero;
❒frequently idling engines or long dis-
tance low speed driving or in case of
a long term inactivity;
❒in cities;
perform the following inspections more
frequently than shown on the Service
Schedule:
❒check front/rear disc brake pad con-
dition and wear;
❒check cleanness of bonnet and boot
locks and lever cleanness and lubrica-
tion;
❒visually inspect the conditions of: en-
gine, gearbox, transmission, pipes and
hoses (exhaust - fuel - brakes), rubber
parts (boots, sleeves, bushes, etc.);
❒inspect the battery charge and fluid
level (electrolyte) (refer to the para-
graph “Battery - Inspection of the bat-
tery charge and of the electrolyte lev-
el” in this chapter);
❒visual check on various drive belt con-
ditions;
❒check and if necessary replace the
pollen filter; in particular it shall be re-
placed if a decrease in the air flow in-
to the passenger comportment is de-
tected;
❒check air cleaner and replace, if re-
quired.
REGULAR
INSPECTIONS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys,
check and top up if required:
❒engine coolant fluid level;
❒brake fluid level;
❒windscreen washer fluid level;
❒tyre pressure and conditions;
❒operation of lights (headlights, direc-
tion indicators, hazard lights, etc.);
❒operation of the windscreen wiper/
washer system, position and wear of
the windscreen and rear window
wiper blades;
Every 3,000 km check the following and
top-up, if required: engine oil level.
You are recommended to use FL
Seleniaproducts, designed and produced
specifically for Abarth cars (see table “Ca-
pacities” in section “Technical specifica-
tions”).

reciprocally incompatible and
may severely damage your car.

CAR
MAINTENANCE
Engine oil consumption
The maximum engine oil consumption is
usually 400 grams every 1000 km.
When the car is new, the engine needs
to run in, therefore the engine oil con-
sumption can only be considered stabilised
after the first 5,000 ÷ 6,000 km.
IMPORTANT The oil consumption de-
pends on driving style and the conditions
under which the car is used.
IMPORTANT After adding or changing
the oil, let the engine turn over for a few
seconds and wait a few minutes after turn-
ing it off before you check the level. ENGINE OIL fig.1
Check the oil level a few minutes (about
5) after the engine has stopped, with the
car parked on level ground.
The oil level shall be included between the
MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick B.
The range between the MIN and MAX
levels corresponds to approximately 1
litre of oil.
If the oil level is near or even under the
MIN line, add oil through the filler Ato
reach the MAX line.
Oil level shall never exceed the MAX line.
Proceed very carefully inside
the engine compartment
when the engine is hot: risk of burns.
Remember that the fan may start up
if the engine is hot: risk of injury. Pay
attention to scarves, ties and other
loose fitting garments: they might get
caught by moving components.
WARNING
Don’t add any oil having dif-
ferent characteristics from
those of the existing engine oil.
The exhausted engine oil and
the replaced oil filter contain
substances that may be dan-
gerous for the environment. It
is advisable to have oil and filters
changed by a Abarth Dealership where
they will be disposed of according to
the law.

WINDSCREEN/REAR WINDOW
WASHER FLUID fig. 1
To add fluid, remove the cap D, pressing
the special tab.
Pour a mixture of water and TUTELA
PROFESSIONAL SC35, in the following
concentrations:
30% TUTELA PROFESSIONAL SC35 and
70% water in summer.
50% TUTELA PROFESSIONAL SC35 and
50% water in winter.
In case of temperatures below –20°C, use
undiluted TUTELA PROFESSIONAL SC35
fluid.
Check level through the reservoir.
Close the cap Dpressing its central sec-
tion. ENGINE COOLANT fig. 1
The coolant level must be checked when
the engine is cold and must be between
the MIN and MAX lines on the vessel.
If the level is low, pour slowly a mixture
of 50% distilled water and 50% PARAFLU
UP of the FL Selenia Group through the
filler neck Cuntil the level reaches MAX.
A 50-50 mixture of PARAFLU UP and dis-
tilled water gives freeze protection to
–35°C.
When the vehicle is used under particu-
larly harsh climate conditions, we recom-
mend using a 60-40 mixture of PARAFLU
UP and demineralised water.PARAFLU UP antifreeze is
used in the engine cooling sys-
tem. Use fluid of the same
type contained in the cooling
system for top-ups. PARAFLU UP may
not be mixed with other types of fluids.
If this accidentally occurs, do not start
the engine and contact a Abarth Deal-
ership.
The engine cooling system is
pressurized. If required, re-
place the cap with an original spare
part so as not to compromise system
efficiency. Do not remove the cap
from the vessel when the engine is
hot: risk of burns.
WARNING
Do not travel with the wind-
screen washing reservoir
empty: the windscreen washer is fun-
damental to improve visibility.
Some commercial windscreen wash-
er additives are flammable. The en-
gine compartment contains hot parts
which could start a fire if they come
into contact.
