AIRBAGS
FRONT AIRBAGS
Front airbag fault Flashing indicates an airbag
fault, contact a PEUGEOT

to have the system checked.
The airbags may no longer
be deployed in the event of a serious
impact
Note: the gas escaping from
the airbags can be a minor
irritant.
Immediately after the impact, the
a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y s o t h a t t h e y
do not hinder the visibility of the
occupants nor their exit if necessary
from the vehicle. The airbags are
not deployed in the case of minor
impacts, rear impacts or in certain
roll-over conditions. The seat belt
i s s u f fi c i e n t t o e n s u r e m a x i m u m
protection in these situations. The
seriousness of a collision depends
on the nature of the obstacle and the
speed of the vehicle at the moment
of the collision.
Airbags only operate when the
ignition is switched on. When they
are deployed, a noise is heard
d u r i n g i n fl a t i o n .
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
The airbags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
in the event of serious collisions. They
w o r k i n c o n j u n c t i o n w i t h t h e f o r c e -
limiting seat belts. The electronic
detectors register and analyse any
abrupt deceleration of the vehicle
in the impact detection zones (see
d i a g r a m ) : i f t h e d e p l o y m e n t t h r e s h o l d
i s r e a c h e d , t h e a i r b a g s i n fl a t e
instantly and protect the occupants
of the vehicle.
T h e s e a r e fi t t e d i n t h e c e n t r e o f t h e
steering wheel for the driver and in the
dashboard for the front passenger. They
are deployed simultaneously, except in
cases where the passenger's airbag is
deactivated, in the event of a serious
front impact applied in the impact
zone A in the longitudinal centreline of
the vehicle, on a horizontal plane and
from the front of the vehicle towards
t h e r e a r . T h e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front occupant of the vehicle and
the dashboard to cushion his forward
movement. The airbags therefore limit
t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d a n d c h e s t .

SAFETY
For the front, lateral and
curtain airbags to be fully
effective, observe the
following safety rules:
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Sit in a normal upright position.
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (child,
a n i m a l , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r
t h e o p e r a t i o n o f t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e
the occupants.
A l l w o r k o n t h e a i r b a g s y s t e m s i s
strictly prohibited unless it is carried
o u t b y q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e
PEUGEOT dealer network or a
q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
A f t e r a n a c c i d e n t o r i f t h e v e h i c l e h a s
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering
wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet
on the dashboard.
Smoke as little as possible;
deployment of the airbags can cause
b u r n s o r t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a
cigarette or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering
wheel or hit it violently.
Curtain airbags
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e
pillars or the roof. This could cause
i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d w h e n t h e c u r t a i n
a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
The deployment of an airbag or
airbags is accompanied by a slight
emission of harmless smoke and
a noise due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system. This smoke is not
harmful but sensitive individuals may
experience some irritation.
The detonation noise may result in
a slight loss of hearing for a short
time.
Even if all of the precautions
m e n t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , i n j u r y o r
slight burns to the head, chest or arms
when the airbag is deployed cannot
b e r u l e d o u t . I n d e e d , t h e b a g i n fl a t e s
almost instantly (approximately
3 0 m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n
the same time discharging hot gas
via the openings provided for this
purpose.
This equipment will only operate
once. If a second impact occurs
(during the same or a subsequent
a c c i d e n t ) , t h e a i r b a g w i l l n o t i n fl a t e .
Lateral airbags
Only put approved covers on the
seats, these will not hamper the
i n fl a t i o n o f t h e l a t e r a l a i r b a g s . C o n t a c t
a P E U G E O T d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d
workshop.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e
front seat backs. This could cause
i n j u r y t o t h e c h e s t o r a r m s w h e n t h e
l a t e r a l a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not sit with the upper part of the
body any nearer to the door than
necessary.

CHECKS
OPENING THE BONNET
On the outside : lift the safety catch B
and raise the bonnet.
Bonnet stay
Secure the stay to hold the bonnet
open.
To close
Before closing the bonnet, return the
stay to its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at
the end of its travel. Check that the
bonnet is fully closed.
On the inside : pull the release lever A ,
located under the dashboard.

When removing the mat on the driver's
side, push the seat as far back as
p o s s i b l e a n d r e m o v e t h e t w o fi x i n g s .
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , p o s i t i o n t h e m a t
correctly on the pins and clip the
fi x i n g s . C h e c k t h a t t h e m a t i s s e c u r e d
correctly.
To prevent the mat from becoming
caught under the pedals:
- o n l y u s e m a t s s u i t e d t o t h e fi x i n g s already present in the vehicle. It
i s i m p e r a t i v e t h a t t h e s e fi x i n g s b e
used.
