Sensor(s) not detected or faulty
A message appears in the screen, accompanied by an audible signal, to identify the wheel or wheels which are not detected or
to indicate a fault in the system. Contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop to replace the faulty sensor(s).
All repairs and changing of tyres on a wheel fitted with this system must be carried out by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
If, when changing a tyre, you install a wheel which is not detected by your vehicle (example: fitting of snow tyres), you must have the system reinitialised by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
This system does not avoid the need to have the tyre pressures checked regularly (refer to the "Identification markings" section) to ensure that
the optimum dynamic per formance of the vehicle is maintained and prevent premature wear of the tyres, par ticularly in arduous driving conditions (heavy load, high speed). The tyre pressures must be checked cold, at least once a month. Remember to check the pressure of the spare wheel. The tyre under-inflation detection system may experience temporary inter ference due to electro-magnetic emissions on a frequency close to that used by the system.
This message is also displayed when one of the wheels is away from the vehicle (being repaired) or when one or more wheels without a sensor are fitted. If your vehicle is equipped with a spare
wheel, this is not fitted with a sensor.
Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (star ting a vehicle which is bogged down, stuck in snow, on soft ground...), it may be advisable to deactivate the ASR and ESP systems, so that the wheels can
move freely and regain grip. Press the "ESP OFF" button, located on the left below the steering wheel.
If this warning lamp comes on in the instrument panel and the indicator lamp in the button comes on, this indicates that the ASR and ESP systems are deactivated.
Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automatically each time the ignition is switched back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h). Press the "ESP OFF" button again to
reactivate them manually.
Operating fault
The ESP/ASR systems offer exceptional safety in normal driving, but this should not encourage the driver to take extra risks or drive at high speed. The correct functioning of these systems is assured provided that manufacturer's recommendations are obser ved on: - wheels (tyres and rims), - braking components, - electronic components, - assembly and repair procedures. After an impact, have these systems checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
If this warning lamp comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message in the screen, this
indicates a fault with these systems. Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
181Safety
Airbags
System designed to maximise the safety of the occupants (with the exception of the rear centre passenger) in the event of violent collisions. It supplements the action of the force-limiting seat belts (with the exception of the rear centre passenger). If a collision occurs, the electronic detectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones: - in the case of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instantly and protect the occupants of the vehicle (with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so that they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the occupants, - in the case of a minor or rear impact or in cer tain roll-over conditions, the airbags will not be deployed; the seat belt alone is sufficient to provide optimum protection in
these situations.
The airbags do not operate when the ignition is switched off. This equipment will only deploy once. If a second impact occurs (during the same or a subsequent accident), the airbag will not be deployed again.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone. B. Side impact zone.
Deployment of the airbag(s) is
accompanied by a slight emission of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic car tridge incorporated in the system. This smoke is not harmful, but sensitive individuals may experience slight irritation. The noise of the detonation may result in a slight loss of hearing for a shor t time.

Checks
Battery Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Oil filter
Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the Maintenance and Warranty Guide and according to your engine. Other wise, have them checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
The battery does not require any maintenance. However, check that the terminals are clean and correctly tightened, par ticularly in summer and winter. When carrying out work on the battery, refer to the "Practical information" section for details of the precautions to be taken before disconnecting the battery and following its reconnection.
Refer to the Maintenance and Warranty Guide for details of the replacement inter vals for these components. Depending on the environment (e.g. dusty atmosphere) and the use of the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace them twice as often if necessar y (refer to the "Engines" section). A clogged passenger compar tment filter may have an adverse effect on the per formance of the air conditioning system and generate undesirable odours.
Replace the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.
Refer to the Maintenance and Warranty Guide for details of the replacement inter val for this component.
The presence of this label, in par ticular with the Stop & Star t system, indicates the use of a specific 12 V lead-acid battery with special technology and specification, for which the involvement of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is required when replacing or
disconnecting the battery. Failure to obser ve this recommendation may shor ten the life of the battery.
Installing electrical accessories
Your vehicle's electrical system is designed to operate with standard or optional equipment. Before installing other electrical equipment or accessories on your vehicle, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
CITROËN will not accept responsibility for the cost incurred in repairing your vehicle or for rectifying malfunctions resulting from the installation of accessories not supplied and not
recommended by CITROËN and not installed in accordance with its instructions, in par ticular when the combined consumption of all of the additional equipment connected exceeds 10 milliamperes.
Before changing a fuse: the cause of the failure must be identified and rectified, all electrical consumers must b switched off, the vehicle must be immobilised with the ignition off, identify the failed fuse using the tables and layout drawings in the following pages.
Changing a fuse
GoodFailed
The replacement of a fuse not shown in the tables below may cause a serious malfunction of your vehicle. Contact
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Tweezer To replace a fuse, you must: use the special tweezer to extract the fuse from its housing and check the condition of its filament.
always replace the failed fuse with a fuse of the same rating (same colour); using a different rating could cause faults (risk of fire). If the fuse fails again soon after replacement, have the vehicle's electrical system checked by
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
265Practical information
Load reduction mode
System which manages the use of cer tain functions according to the level of charge remaining in the battery. When the vehicle is being driven, the load reduction function temporarily deactivates cer tain functions, such as the air conditioning,
the heated rear screen... The deactivated functions are reactivated automatically as soon as conditions permit.
Do not disconnect the terminals while the engine is running. Do not charge the batteries without disconnecting the terminals first. Do not push the vehicle to star t the engine if it is fitted with the 6 -speed electronic gearbox system.
Before disconnecting the battery
Wait 2 minutes after switching off the ignition before disconnecting the battery. Close the windows and the doors before disconnecting the battery.
Following reconnection of the battery
Following reconnection of the battery, switch on the ignition and wait 1 minute before star ting to permit initialisation of the electronic systems. However, if problems are encountered following this operation, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop. Referring to the corresponding section, you must yourself reinitialise: - the remote control key, - the GPS satellite navigation system.
