Periodic maintenance chart for the emission control system

For vehicles not equipped with an odometer or hour meter, follow the month maintenance intervals.


For vehicles equipped with an odometer or an hour meter, follow the km (mi) or hours maintenance in-
tervals. However, keep in mind that if the vehicle isn’t used for a long period of time, the month mainte-
nance intervals should be followed.


Items marked with an asterisk should be performed by a Yamaha dealer as they require special tools,
data and technical skills.

Valve clearance
The correct valve clearance changes with use, re-
sulting in improper fuel/air supply or engine noise.
To prevent this, the valve clearance must be ad-
justed regularly. This adjustment however, should
be left to a professional Yamaha service techni-
cian.Tightening torque:

Battery
This model is equipped with a VRLA (Valve Regu-
lated Lead Acid) battery. There is no need to
check the electrolyte or to add distilled water. How-
ever, the battery lead connections need to be
checked and, if necessary, tightened.NOTICEDo not try to remove the sealing caps of the
battery cells. You may damage the battery.

To charge the battery
Have a Yamaha dealer charge the battery as soon
as possible if it seems to have discharged. Keep in
mind that the battery tends to discharge more
quickly if the vehicle is equipped with optional elec-
trical accessories.NOTICETo charge a VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid)
battery, a special (constant-voltage) battery
charger is required. Using a conventional bat-
tery charger will damage the battery. If you do
not have access to a constant-voltage battery
charger, have a Yamaha dealer charge your
battery.To store the battery

If the vehicle will not be used for more than one
month, remove the battery, fully charge it, and
then place it in a cool, dry place.


If the battery will be stored for more than two
months, check it at least once a month and fully
charge it if necessary.
