Use only unleaded gasoline. The use
of leaded gasoline will cause severe
damage to internal engine parts,
such as the valves and piston rings,as well as to the exhaust system.
Your Yamaha engine has been de-
signed to use premium unleaded gaso-
line with a pump octane number
[(R+M)/2] of 91 or higher, or a research
octane number of 95 or higher. If
knocking (or pinging) occurs, use a
gasoline of a different brand. Use of un-
leaded fuel will extend spark plug life
and reduce maintenance costs.Gasohol (for Canada)
There are two types of gasohol: gaso-
hol containing ethanol and that contain-
ing methanol. Gasohol containing
ethanol can be used if the ethanol con-
tent does not exceed 10%. Gasohol
containing methanol is not recom-
mended by Yamaha because it can
cause damage to the fuel system or ve-
hicle performance problems.

Catalytic converters This vehicle is equipped with catalytic
converters in the exhaust system.

The exhaust system is hot after op-
eration. To prevent a fire hazard or
burns:

Do not park the vehicle near
possible fire hazards such as
grass or other materials that
easily burn.


Park the vehicle in a place
where pedestrians or children
are not likely to touch the hot
exhaust system.


Make sure that the exhaust sys-
tem has cooled down before do-
ing any maintenance work.


Do not allow the engine to idle
more than a few minutes. Long
idling can cause a build-up ofheat.
Recommended fuel:
Premium unleaded gasoline only
Fuel tank capacity:
7.0 L (1.85 US gal, 1.54 Imp.gal)

2-stroke engine oil Make sure that there is sufficient 2-
stroke engine oil in the oil tank. If nec-
essary, add the recommended 2-stroke
engine oil as follows.
1. Open the storage compartment.
(See page 3-10.)
2. Remove the engine oil tank cap by
pulling it off.
3. Fill the oil tank with the recom-
mended 2-stroke engine oil, and
then install the tank cap by push-
ing it into the filler hole.
TIPMake sure that the 2-stroke engine oil
tank cap is properly installed beforeriding the vehicle.
