32 1-2. Opening, closing and locking the doors
■When all the doors are locked with the wireless remote control or key
The doors cannot be unlocked with the door lock switch.
The door lock switch can be reset by unlocking all the doors with the wire-
less remote control or key.
■The doors cannot be locked when
The key is in the engine switch and either of the front door is open.
■Customization that can be configured at Toyota dealer
Settings (e.g. unlocking function using a key) can be changed. (Customiz-

CAUTION
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failing to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant falling out,
resulting in death or serious injury.
●Always use a seat belt.
●Always lock the doors.
●Ensure that all doors are properly closed.
●Do not pull the inside handle of either of the front doors while driving.
●Set the rear door child protector locks when children are seated in the rear
seat.

■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type of engine immobilizer system.

●If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key to the security system
(key with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle

the system cannot be guaranteed.

When driving
■Parking the vehicle
Automatic transmission
With the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake. (→P. 1 1 8 )
Shift the shift lever to P. (→P. 1 1 0 )
When parking on a hill, if necessary, block the wheels.
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position and stop the
engine.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the key on your
person.
Manual transmission
With the clutch pedal fully depressed, depress the brake
pedal.
Set the parking brake. (→P. 1 1 8 )
Shift the shift lever to N. (→P. 1 1 5 )
When parking on a hill, shift the shift lever to 1 or R. If necessary,
block the wheels.
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position and stop the
engine.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the key on your
person.

■Key reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds if the driver’s door is opened while the engine switch is in
the “LOCK” position to remind you to remove the key.
CAUTION
■When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in the driver's seat. Do not depress the
accelerator while starting the engine under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■Caution when driving
Do not turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position while driving. If, in an
emergency, you must turn the engine off while the vehicle is moving, turn the
engine switch only to the “ACC” position.

When driving
NOTICE
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the key in the “ACC” or “ON” position for long periods if the
engine is not running.
■When starting the engine
●2.4 L 4-cylinder (2AZ-FE) engine ⎯ Do not crank for more than 30 sec-
onds at a time. This may overheat the starter and wiring systems.
●Do not race a cold engine.
●If the engine becomes difficult to start or stalls frequently, have the engine
checked immediately.
