minate when you start the vehicle.
• The SRS warning lamp does not go
out after several seconds.
• The SRS warning lamp illuminates

formed on or near the components of the
SRS to be performed by a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
Improper work on the SRS components
or wiring could result in inadvertent de-
ployment of the airbags, or could render
the SRS inoperative; either situation
could result in serious injury.
l Do not modify your steering wheel, seat
belt retractor or any other SRS compo-
nents. For example, replacement of the
steering wheel, or modifications to the
front bumper or body structure can ad-
versely affect SRS performance and lead
to possible injury.WARNINGl If your vehicle has received any damage,
we recommend you to have the SRS in-
spected to ensure it is in proper working
order.
l On vehicles with the side airbags, do not
modify your front seats, centre pillar and
centre console.
It can adversely affect SRS performance
and lead to possible injury.
Also, if you have found any tear or open
seam in the seat fabric at the portion near
the side airbag, we recommend you to
have the seat inspected.
l On vehicles with the curtain airbags, if
you have found any scratch, crack or dam-
age to the portion of the front and rear pil-
lars and roof side rail, we recommend
you to have the SRS inspected by a
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized
Service Point.
NOTE
l When you transfer ownership of the vehicle
to some other person, we urge you to alert
the new owner that it is equipped with the
SRS and refer that owner to the applicable
section in this owner’s manual.
l If you junk or scrap the vehicle, we urge you
to first take the vehicle to a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point so that
the SRS can be rendered safe.

switch while the icon is flashing to change
the display from “---” to “cLEAr”. After this,
the time until the next periodic inspection
will be displayed.CAUTIONl The customer is responsible for making
sure that periodic inspection and mainte-
nance are performed. Inspections and
maintenance must be performed to pre-
vent accidents and malfunctions.
NOTE
l “
---”display cannot be reset when the igni-
tion switch is “ON”.
l When “---” is displayed, after a certain dis-
tance and a certain period of time, the dis-
play is reset and the time until the next peri-
odic inspection is displayed.
l If you accidentally reset the display, we rec-
ommend you to consult a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.Changing the function settings (when

The multi-information display fuel consumption
unit, average fuel consumption reset mode and
speed reset mode and temperature unit, can be modi-
fied as desired.
CAUTIONl The driver should not operate the display
while the vehicle is in motion.
l When operating the system, stop the vehi-
cle in a safe area.
NOTE
l For vehicles equipped with multi-informa-
tion displays that show figures in miles, the
fuel consumption can only be displayed in
miles per gallon (“mpg”).
Changing the reset mode for average fuel con-
sumption and average speed E00522900281
The mode conditions for the average fuel consump-
tion and average speed display can be switched be-
tween “Auto reset” and “Manual reset”.
1. When you lightly press the MODE/SET
switch a few times, the information display
switches to the driving range display.
2. Press and hold the MODE/SET switch for
about 2 seconds or more to display “A” and
make it flash.

During a long period of disuse
The air conditioning should be operated for at least
five minutes each week, even in cold weather. This
is to prevent poor lubrication of the compressor in-
ternal parts and to maintain the air conditioning in
the best operating condition.Air purifier E00708400024
An air filter has been incorporated into this air con-
ditioning so that dirt and dust are cleaned from the
air.
Replace the air filter periodically as its ability to
clean the air will be reduced as it collects pollen
and dirt. For the maintenance interval, refer to the
“SERVICE BOOKLET”.
NOTE l Operation in certain conditions such as driv-
ing on a dusty road and frequent use of the
air conditioning can lead to reduction of serv-
ice life of the filter. When the air flow rate
suddenly drops or when the windscreen or
windows start to fog up easily, the air filter
requires replacement.

The audio system can be used when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” or “ACC” position.
NOTE l To listen to the audio system while the en-
gine is stopped, turn the ignition key to the
“ACC” position.
For Clear Tec models, the audio system will
continue to operate if the ignition switch is in
the “ON” position when the engine stops au-
tomatically. However, in some cases, the au-
dio system may stop producing sound or turn
off.
l If a cellular phone is used inside the vehicle,
it may create noise from the audio equip-
ment. This does not mean that anything is
wrong with your audio equipment. In such a
case, use the cellular phone at a place as far
away as possible from the audio equipment.
l If foreign objects or water get into the audio
equipment, or if smoke or a strange odour
comes from it, immediately turn off the au-
dio system. We recommend you to have it
checked. Never try to repair it by yourself.
Avoid continuous usage without inspection
by a qualified person.

5. Check the coolant level in the reserve tank. Except for vehicles with turbocharger
The coolant level in this tank should be kept
between the “LOW” and “FULL” marks.

The reserve tank lid is equipped with a dip-
stick.

Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean
cloth. Reinsert the dipstick as far as it goes.
Remove the dipstick and read the coolant lev-
el, which should always be within the range
“F” (FULL) or “L” (LOW).FULLLOW
WARNINGl If there is none, make sure that the en-
gine has cooled down before removing
the radiator cap (B), because hot steam
or boiling water otherwise will gush from
the filler port and may scald you.
6. Add coolant to the radiator and/or reserve
tank if necessary (refer to the “Maintenance”
section).
CAUTIONl Do not add coolant while the engine is
hot. Suddenly adding cold coolant could
damage the engine. Wait for the engine to
cool down, then add coolant a little at a
time.
7. Examine the radiator hoses for coolant leak-
age and the drive belt for looseness or damage.
If there is anything wrong with the cooling
system or drive belt, we recommend you to
have it checked and repaired.

In order to maintain the value of your vehicle, it is
necessary to perform regular maintenance using the
proper procedures. Always maintain your vehicle
in compliance with environmental pollution control
regulations. Carefully select the materials used for
washing, etc., to be sure that they do not contain cor-
rosives. If in doubt, we recommend you to consult
a specialist for selection of these materials.CAUTIONl Cleaning products can be dangerous.
Some are poisonous. Others can burst in-
to flame if you strike a match or drop
them on a hot part of the vehicle. Some
are dangerous if you breathe their fumes
in a closed space. When you use anything
in a container to clean your vehicle, al-
ways follow the instructions and always
open your vehicle doors or windows when
you’re cleaning the inside. Never use the
following to clean your vehicle: • Petrol
• Paint Thinner
• Benzine
• Kerosene
• Turpentine
• Naphtha
• Lacquer Thinner
• Carbon Tetrachloride
• Nail Polish Remover
• Acetone
l These are all dangerous, and can damage
your vehicle.Cleaning the interior of your

After cleaning the interior of your vehicle with wa-
ter, cleaner or similar, wipe and dry in a shady, well-
ventilated area.CAUTIONl Do not use organic substances (solvents,
benzine, kerosene, alcohol, petrol, etc.) or
alkaline or acidic solutions.
These chemicals can cause discolouring,
staining or cracking of the surface.
If you use cleaners or polishing agents,
make sure their ingredients do not in-
clude the substances mentioned above.
NOTE
l Always read the instructions on the cleaner la-
bel.

1.Gently wipe off with gauze or other soft
cloth soaked with a 3 % aqueous solution of
neutral detergent.
2. Dip cloth in fresh water and wring out well.
Using this cloth, wipe off the detergent thor-
oughly.
NOTE
l Do not use cleaners, conditioners, and protec-
tants containing silicons or wax.
Such products may cause annoying reflec-

1.To maintain the value of your new vehicle,
handle the upholstery carefully and keep the
interior clean.
Use a vacuum cleaner and brush to clean the
seats. If stained, vinyl and synthetic leather
should be cleaned with an appropriate clean-
er, and cloth fabrics can be cleaned with ei-
ther upholstery cleaner or a 3 % solution of
neutral detergent in lukewarm water.
2. Clean the carpeting with a vacuum cleaner
and remove any stains with carpet cleaner.
Oil and grease can be removed by lightly dab-
bing with a clean colourfast cloth and stain re-
mover.

Adequate care of your vehicle at regular intervals
serves to preserve the value and appearance as long
as possible.
Maintenance items as described in this owner’s man-
ual can be performed by the owner.
We recommend you to have the periodic inspection
and maintenance performed by a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or another spe-
cialist. In the event a malfunction or other problem
is discovered, we recommend you to have it
checked and repaired. This section contains infor-
mation on inspection maintenance procedures that
you can do yourself. Follow the instructions and
cautions for each of the various procedures.WARNINGl When checking or servicing the inside of
the engine compartment, make sure the
engine is switched off and has had a
chance to cool down.
l If it is necessary to do work in the engine
compartment with the engine running, be
especially careful that your clothing, hair,
etc., does not become caught by the fans,
drive belts, or other moving parts.
l The fan may turn on automatically even
if the engine is not running; turn the igni-
tion key to “LOCK” position and remove
the key to ensure safety while you work
in the engine compartment.
l Do not smoke, cause sparks or allow open
flames around fuel or battery. The fumes
are flammable.WARNINGl Be extremely cautious when working
around the battery. It contains poisonous
and corrosive sulphuric acid.
l Do not get under your vehicle with just
the body jack supporting it. Always use
automotive jack stands.
l Improper handling of components and
materials used in the vehicle can endan-
ger your personal safety. We recommend
you to consult a specialist for necessary in-

For ordinary use, there are no particular precau-
tions except that of using unleaded petrol.
The exhaust gas scavenging devices used with the
catalytic converter are extremely efficient for the re-
duction of noxious gases. The catalytic converter is
installed in the exhaust system.
It is important to keep the engine properly tuned to
ensure proper catalyst operation and prevent possi-
ble catalyst damage.CAUTIONl Damage to the catalytic converter can re-
sult if your vehicle is not kept in proper
operating condition. In the event of an en-
gine malfunction particularly involving
engine misfire or other apparent loss of
performance, have your vehicle serviced
promptly. Continued operation of your ve-
hicle with a severe overheated condition
may result in possible damage to the con-
verter and vehicle.WARNINGl As with any vehicle, do not park or oper-
ate this vehicle in areas where combusti-
ble materials such as dry grass or leaves
can come in contact with a hot exhaust
since a fire could occur.
l Paint should not be applied to the catalyt-
ic converter.
