It could damage your vehicle.
l Always wear protective eye goggles when
working near the battery.
l Keep the battery out of the reach of chil-
dren.
NOTE
l If the vehicle is put in motion without fully
charging the battery, it might cause the loss
of smooth engine operation and the anti-lock
brake warning lamp to illuminate. Refer to
“ Anti-lock brake system (ABS)” on page
4-27.
l For Clear Tec models, press the “Auto Stop
& Go (AS&G) OFF” switch to deactivate the
Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system and pre-
vent the engine from automatically stopping
before the battery is sufficiently charged. Re-
fer to “To deactivate” on page 4-16.
Engine overheating E00800601839
If the high coolant temperature warning lamp flash-
es during the engine is running, the engine may be
overheating. If this occurs, take the following cor-
rective measures: 1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
2. Check whether steam is coming from the en-
gine compartment.

[ If steam does not come from the engine com-
partment]
With the engine still running, raise the bon-
net to ventilate the engine compartment.
NOTE l For Clear Tec models, press the “Auto Stop
& Go (AS&G) OFF” switch to deactivate the
Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system before stop-
ping the vehicle. Refer to “To deactivate” on
page 4-16.
[If steam is coming from the engine compart-
ment]
Stop the engine, and when the steam stops,
raise the bonnet to ventilate the engine com-
partment. Restart the engine.WARNINGl Do not open the bonnet while steam is com-
ing from the engine compartment. It
could cause steam or hot water to spurt
out, causing burns. Hot water could spurt
out even when there is no steam coming
out, and some parts will be very hot. Be
very careful when opening the bonnet.WARNINGl Be careful of hot steam, which could blow
off the reserve tank cap.
l Do not attempt to remove the radiator
cap while the engine is hot.
3. Confirm that the cooling fan is turning. If the
fan is not turning, stop the engine immediate-
ly and have it checked.

WARNINGl Be careful not to get your hands or
clothes caught in the cooling fans.

position.
On vehicles with automated manual transmis-
sion, move the allshift lever to the “R” (Re-
verse) position, turn the ignition key to the
“LOCK” position.
With an automated manual transmission ve-
hicle, confirm that that “R” is shown by the
allshift indicator display.
4. Turn on the hazard warning flashers and set
up a warning triangle, flashing signal lamp,
etc., at an adequate distance from the vehi-
cle, and have all your passengers leave the ve-
hicle.
5. Take out the tyre sealant bottle and the com-
pressor.
NOTE l In cold conditions (when the ambient temper-
ature is 0 °C or lower). Warm the bottle in-
side the vehicle.
6. Shake the tyre sealant bottle (C) well.7. Take the valve cap (D) off the tyre valve (E).
8. Unwind the bottle hose (F) from around the
bottle (G).
9. Pull out the compressor’s hose (H) from the
bottom of the compressor and securely attach
it to the valve (I) of the bottle.
10. Install the bottle (J) onto the compressor (K).
NOTE
l When installing the bottle, align the projec-
tion (L) on the bottle with the indentation
(M) in the compressor.
11. Securely attach the bottle hose (F) to the tyre
valve (N).

1. Park the vehicle on level and stable ground.
2. Set the parking brake firmly.
3. On vehicles with manual transmission, turn
the ignition key to the “LOCK” position,
move the gearshift lever to the “R” (Reverse)
position.
On vehicles with automated manual transmis-
sion, move the allshift lever to the “R” (Re-
verse) position, turn the ignition key to the
“LOCK” position.
With an automated manual transmission ve-
hicle, confirm that there is a “A” or “1” in
the allshift indicator display.
4. Turn on the hazard warning flashers and set
up a warning triangle, flashing signal lamp,
etc., at an adequate distance from the vehi-
cle, and have all your passengers leave the ve-
hicle.
5. To prevent the vehicle from rolling when it
is raised on the jack, place chocks or blocks
(A) at the tyre that is diagonally opposite
from the tyre (B) you are changing.WARNINGl Be sure to apply chocks or blocks to the
correct tyre when jacking up the vehicle.
If the vehicle moves while jacked up, the
jack could slip out of position, leading to
an accident.
NOTE
l The chocks shown in the illustration do not
come with your vehicle. It is recommended
that you keep one in the vehicle for use if nee-
ded.
l If chocks are not available, use stones or any
other objects that are large enough to hold
the wheel in position.
6. Place the jack under one of the jacking
points (C) shown in the illustration. Use the
jacking point closest to the tyre you wish to
change.
WARNINGl Set the jack only at the positions shown
here. If the jack is set at a wrong position,
it could dent your vehicle or the jack
might fall over and cause personal injury.
l Do not use the jack on a tilted or soft sur-
face.
Otherwise, the jack might slip and cause
personal injury. Always use the jack on a
flat, hard surface.
Before setting the jack, make sure there
are no sand or pebbles under the jack base.
7. Holding the jack in position by hand, turn
the handle until the flange portion (D) fits in
the groove (E) at the top of the jack.
8. Slowly turn the jack handle until the tyre is
raised slightly off the ground surface.

used on any other wheels, nor should
standard tyres, snow tyres, wheel covers
or trim rings be used with the compact
spare wheel. If such use is attempted, dam-
age to these items or other vehicle compo-
nents may occur.
l Upon installation of the compact spare
tyre, the overall vehicle height is lowered
slightly as the tyre is smaller in diameter
than the standard tyre. When passing
over the projections on the road, take
care not to drive the vehicle with the
same feeling as used in driving with the
standard tyre on.
l Do not install more than one compact
spare wheel at the same time.
l When the tread wear indicators appear,
the tyre must be replaced.
Refer to “Wheel condition” on page 8-13.To remove
1.For vehicles with luggage floor lid, open the
luggage floor cargo lid.
Refer to “Luggage floor lid” on page 5-40.
2. Lift the carpet, then remove the luggage
floor boards (A).
3. Remove the clamp (B) which secures the
spare wheel by turning it anticlockwise. Take
out the spare wheel.
To install
To install the spare wheel, tighten the clamp by turn-
ing it clockwise until the spare wheel cannot move.

Before changing a tyre, first stop your vehicle in a
safe, flat location. 1. Park the vehicle on level and stable ground.
2. Set the parking brake firmly.

6. Get the spare wheel, jack, jack handle and
wheel nut wrench ready.
NOTE
l Put the spare wheel under the vehicle body
near the jack. This makes it safer if the jack
slips out of position.
7. On vehicles with wheel covers, first remove
the covers (refer to “Wheel covers” on page
6-17 ). Then loosen the wheel nuts with the
wheel nut wrench. Do not remove the wheel
nuts yet.
8. Find the closest jacking point to the flat tyre
(refer to “Jacking up the vehicle” on page
6-12 ). Then position the jack and raise the ve-
hicle until the tyre is slightly off the ground.
9. Remove the wheel nuts with the wheel nut
wrench, then take the wheel off.
CAUTIONl Handle the wheel carefully when chang-
ing the tyre, to avoid scratching the wheel
surface.
10. Clean out any mud, etc. on the hub surface
(C), hub bolts (D) or in the installation holes
(E) in the wheel, and then mount the spare
wheel.

transmission, place the allshift lever in
the “N” (Neutral) position before stop-
ping the engine.
If your vehicle is to be towed by another vehicle
1.Take out the towing hook and wheel nut
wrench (if so equipped). (Refer to “Tools
jack and tyre repair kit” on page 6-06.)
2. Press by hand the side of the cover (A) that
has a “
” mark, then remove the cover.
3. Use the wheel nut wrench (B) to securely
mount the towing hook (C).
If your vehicle does not have a wheel nut
wrench, securely tighten the towing hook (C)
by hand.
4. Secure the tow rope to the front towing hook.
CAUTIONl Do not tow the vehicle with the rope at an
excessive diagonal angle.
NOTE
l To avoid deforming or otherwise damaging
the vehicle body when hooking the rope onto
the towing hook, observe the following in-
structions: • Mount the towing hook securely.
• Do not attach the rope to any part of the
vehicle other than the towing hook.
• Do not drive in a way that subjects the
towing hook to significant physical shock.
5. Keep the engine running.
If the engine is not running, turn the ignition
key to the “ACC” or “ON” position to un-
lock the steering wheel.CAUTIONl When the engine is not running, the
brake booster and power steering do not
operate. This means higher brake depres-
sion force and higher steering effort are
required. Therefore, vehicle operation is
more difficult than usual.
l Do not leave the key in the “LOCK” posi-
tion. The steering wheel will lock, causing
loss of control.
6. Place the gearshift lever (manual transmis-
sion) or the allshift lever (automated manual
transmission) in the “N” (Neutral) position.
With a vehicle that has an automated manual
transmission, confirm that the transmission is
in the “N” (Neutral) position by checking
that “N” is shown by the allshift indicator dis-
play and by pushing the vehicle.
If, with a vehicle that has an automated man-
ual transmission, the engine will not start and
the transmission is not in the “N” (Neutral)
position, press the brake pedal, turn the igni-
tion switch to the “ON” position, and move
the allshift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position.
7. Turn on the hazard warning lamps if required by law. (Follow the local driving laws and
regulations.)
8. During towing make sure that close contact
is maintained between the drivers of both ve-
hicles, and that the vehicles travel at low
speed.

towing vehicle, set your air selection
switch to the recirculation position.CAUTIONl The person in the vehicle being towed
must pay attention to the brake lamps of
the towing vehicle and make sure the
rope never becomes slack.
l Avoid sudden braking, sudden accelera-
tion and sharp turning; such operation
could cause damage to the towing hooks
or the tow rope.
People in the vicinity could be injured as
a result.
l When towing or being towed down a long
slope, the brakes may overheat reducing
the effectiveness. In this situation, have
your vehicle transported by a tow truck.
9. When finished towing, remove the towing
hook, and stow it in the specified location.
(Refer to “Tools jack and tyre repair kit” on
page 6-06.)
When installing the cover on the bumper,
align the tab (D) with the hole in the vehicle
body and press the cover securely into place.
If your vehicle tows another vehicle
The rear towing hook (A) is located as shown in
the illustration. Secure the tow rope to the rear tow-
ing hook.
NOTE
l Using any part other than the designated tow-
ing hook (A) could result in damage to the ve-
hicle body.
NOTE l Your vehicle should only be used to tow an-
other vehicle if the weight of the other vehi-
cle is less than the weight of your vehicle.WARNINGl Do not use the rear towing hook as a jack-
ing point.

cle slowly while lightly depressing the
brake pedal several times in order to dry
out the brakes.
Leaving the brakes wet could result in re-
duced braking performance. Also, there
is a possibility that they could freeze up
or become inoperative due to rust, render-
ing the vehicle unable to move.
l When using an automatic car wash, pay
attention to the following items, referring
to the operation manual or consulting a
car wash operator. If the following proce-
dure is not followed, it could result in dam-
age to your vehicle. • The outside mirrors are retracted.
• The antenna is removed.
• The rear wiper arm assembly is taped
or removed.
• If your vehicle is equipped with a rear
spoiler, consult a car wash operator be-
fore using the car wash.
• If your vehicle has rain sensor wipers,
place the wiper switch lever in the
“
” (OFF) position to deactivate the
rain sensor.
During cold weather
Salt and other chemicals spread on the roads in
some areas in winter can have a harmful effect on
the vehicle body. You should therefore wash the ve-
hicle as often as possible in accordance with our
care-instructions. It is recommended to have a pres-
ervative applied and the underfloor protection
checked before and after the cold weather season.
After washing your vehicle, wipe off all water-
drops from the rubber parts around the doors to pre-
vent the doors from freezing.
NOTE l To prevent freezing of the weatherstripping
on the doors, bonnet, etc., they should be trea-

Waxing the vehicle will help prevent the adherence
of dust and road chemicals to the paintwork. Apply
a wax solution after washing the vehicle, or at least
once every three months to assist displacing of water.
Do not wax your vehicle in direct sunlight. You
should wax after the surfaces have cooled.
CAUTIONl Waxes containing high abrasive com-
pounds should not be used. Such waxes re-
move rust and stains effectively from the
paintwork but they are harmful to the lus-
tre on the painted surface and the plated
surface.
Further, they are harmful to glossy surfa-
ces such as grille, garnish, mouldings, etc.
l Do not use petrol or paint thinners to re-
move road tar or other contamination to
the vehicle surface.
l Do not apply wax on the areas having
black mat coating as it can cause uneven
discolouration, patches, blurs, etc. If
stained with wax, immediately wipe off
with a piece of soft cloth and warm water.Polishing E00901100011
The vehicle should only be polished if the paint-
work has become stained or lost its lustre. Matt-fin-
ish parts and plastic bumpers must not be polished,
polishing these parts will stain them or damage

Small cracks and scratches in the paint coat should
be touched up as soon as possible with
MITSUBISHI touch-up paint to prevent corrosion.
Check body areas facing the road or the tyres care-
fully for damage to the paint coat caused by flying
stones, etc. The paint code number for your vehicle
can be found on the vehicle information code plate
on the door sill.

Use a sponge or chamois leather.
If a car wax adheres on a grey or black rough sur-
face of the bumper, moulding or lamps, the surface
becomes white. In such a case, wipe it off using
lukewarm water and soft cloth or chamois leather.
CAUTIONl Do not use a scrubbing brush or other
hard tools as they may damage the plastic
part surface.
l Do not use wax containing compound (pol-
ishing powder) which may damage the
plastic part surface.
