AUTO
With the ignition switch in the
“ON” position, headlamps, posi-
tion, tail, licence plate, and in-
strument panel lamps turn on
and off automatically in accord-
ance with outside light level.
All lamps turn off automatically
when the ignition switch is
turned to “OFF” position.Position, tail, licence plate and

NOTE
l If the front fog lamps (if so equipped) turn
on when they are supposed to with the
switch in the “AUTO” position, the lamps
turn off automatically with the engine switch
off.
l Do not cover the sensor (A) for the automat-
ic on/off control by affixing a sticker or label
to the windscreen. Also, do not put any water-
repellent coating on the windscreen.
l If the lamps do not turn on or off with the
switch in the “AUTO” position, manually op-
erate the switch and we recommend you to
have your vehicle checked.
[Vehicles with Daytime Running Lamp]
When the ignition switch is in the “ON” position
and the lamp switch is set to the “
” (OFF) posi-
tion, the low beam of the headlamps, tail lamps,
etc., will illuminate.
Lamp monitor buzzer E00506100067
If the driver’s door is opened when the ignition key
is in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position or removed
from the ignition switch while the lamps are on, a
buzzer will sound to remind the driver to turn off
the lamps. Turn off the lamp switch to stop the buz-
zer.
Dipper (High/Low beam change) E00506200505
When the lamp switch is in the “
” position, the
beam changes from high to low (or low to high)
each time the lever is pulled to (1). While the high-
beam is on, the high-beam indication lamp in the in-
strument cluster will also illuminate.
Headlamp flasher E00506300043
The high-beams flash when the lever is pulled slight-
ly to (2), and will go off when it is released.
When the high-beam is on, the high-beam indica-
tion lamp in the instrument cluster will also illumi-
nate.
NOTE l The high-beams can also flash when the
lamp switch is OFF.
l If you turn the lamps off with the headlamps
set to highbeam illumination, the headlamps
are automatically returned to their low-beam
setting when the lamp switch is next turned
to the “
” position.

This function turns on the headlamps in the low-
beam setting for about 30 seconds after the ignition
switch is turned to the “OFF” position. 1.Turn the combination headlamps and dipper
switch to the “0” (OFF) or “AUTO” position
(for vehicles equipped with the automatic
lamp control).
2. Turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” posi-
tion and remove the ignition key.
3. Within 60 seconds of turning the ignition
switch to the “OFF” position, pull the turn-
signal lever towards you.
4. The headlamps will come on in the low
beam setting for about 30 seconds.
NOTE l While the coming home light function is op-
erating, perform one of the following opera-
tions to cancel the function. • Pull the turn-signal lever towards you.
• Turn the combination headlamps and dip-
per switch to the “
” or “” position.
•Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” or
“ACC” position.
l If the coming home light function is cancel-
led, the ignition switch must be turned to the
“ON” or “ACC” position before the function
can be operated again.
l It is possible to modify functions as follows:

Point. •The time that the headlamps remain on
can be changed.
• The coming home light function can be
deactivated.Headlamp levelling switch E00506400695
The angle of the headlamp beam varies depending
upon the load carried by the vehicle.
The headlamp levelling switch (A) can be used to
adjust the headlamp illumination distance (when
the lower beam is illuminated) so that the head-
lamps’ glare does not distract the drivers of ap-
proaching vehicles.
Set the switch (referring to the following table) to
the appropriate position according to the number of
people and the load in the vehicle.

the Emergency stop signal does not operate.

The front fog lamps illuminate only when the head-
lamps or tail lamps turn on. Push the switch to turn
on the front fog lamps, and push the switch again
to turn them off.
The indication lamp in the instrument cluster will
illuminate while the front fog lamps are on.
NOTE
l The front fog lamps are automatically turned
off when the headlamps and tail lamps turn
off. To turn on the front fog lamps again,
push the switch again when the headlamps or
tail lamps turn on.
l In case of vehicles with Daytime Running
Lamp, the front fog lamp can be operated
even if the lamp switch is set to the “
”
(OFF) position, because the low beam of the
headlamps, tail lamps, etc. illuminate when
the ignition key is at the “ON” position.
Rear fog lamp switch E00506900296
The rear fog lamps illuminate only when the head-
lamps or front fog lamps (if so equipped) turn on.
Push the switch to turn on the rear fog lamp, and
push the switch again to turn it off.
The indication lamp in the instrument cluster will
illuminate while the rear fog lamp is on.

fog lamp again, push the switch again when

headlamps, tail lamps, etc. illuminate when

The windscreen wiper and washer can be operated
with the ignition switch in the “ON” or “ACC” po-
sition.
If the blades are frozen to the windscreen, do not
operate the wipers until the ice has melted and the
blades are freed, otherwise the wiper motor may be
damaged.-Misting function

The lever (A) at the bottom of the mirror can be
used to adjust the mirror to reduce the glare from
the headlamps of vehicles behind you during night
driving.
1- Normal
2- Anti-glare
WARNINGl Do not attempt to adjust the rear-view
mirrors while driving. This can be danger-
ous.

Compound curved-surface mirror
(LHD vehicles only)
On the driver’s seat side, a compound curved-sur-
face mirror is used, while on the front passenger’s
seat side, a single curvedsurface mirror is used.

While the single curved-surface mirror has a fixed
curvature, the compound curved-surface mirror has
different curvatures between the inner and outer
sides of the boundary line (A).
The inner side of the boundary line provides the
same vision as that available from an ordinary door
mirror.
However, the outer side of the boundary line pro-
vides a wider vision than an ordinary door mirror.
WARNINGl The sense of distance that you get from
an object you see on the inner side of the
mirror boundary line differs from the
sense of distance that you get from an ob-
ject you see on the outer side.
An object you see on the outer side of the
boundary line of the mirror will look far-
ther away than actually is (farther away
than if you see in a normal flat mirror) as
compared with an object you see on the in-
ner side.To adjust the mirror position E00601000570WARNINGlDo not attempt to adjust the rear-view
mirrors while driving. This can be danger-
ous.
Always adjust the mirrors before driving.
l Your vehicle is equipped with convex
type mirrors.
Please take into consideration. Objects
you see in the mirror will look smaller
and farther away compared to a normal
flat mirror.
Do not use this mirror to estimate dis-
tance of following vehicles when changing
lanes.

LOCK
The engine is stopped and the steering wheel
locked. The key can only be inserted and removed
only when the switch is in this position
ACC
The engine is stopped, but the radio, accessory sock-
et and other electric devices can be operated.
ON
The engine is running, and all the vehicle’s electri-
cal devices can be operated.
START
The starter motor operates. After the engine has star-
ted, release the key and it will automatically return
to the “ON” position.
NOTE
l For vehicles equipped with the Daytime Run-
ning Lamp, when the ignition switch is in the
“ON”, the headlamp low beams etc. are
turned on.
Refer to “Headlamps” on page 8-25.
l Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic
immobilizer, to start the engine, the ID code
which the transponder inside the key sends
must match the one registered to the immobil-
izer computer. Refer to page 1-02.
To remove the key
When removing the key, turn the key to “LOCK”
position and remove it.CAUTIONl Do not remove the ignition key from the
ignition switch while driving. The steer-
ing wheel will locked, causing loss of con-
trol.

battery voltage is insufficient when the en-
gine is started. In this case, it does not indi-
cate an ABS fault.
Charge the battery by allowing the engine to
idle for a while.
If the battery has been charged but the ABS
warning lamp continues to illuminate or illu-
minates intermittently, we recommend you
to consult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Author-
ized Service Point.
If the ABS warning lamp and brake warning
lamp illuminate at the same time
l The brake force distribution function may
not work, so hard braking could make the ve-
hicle unstable.
Avoid hard braking and high-speed driving.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and we rec-
ommend you to consult a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
NOTE l Immediately after the vehicle starts moving
after engine start up, a whining sound of a mo-
tor will be heard from the engine compart-
ment. If the brake pedal is depressed at that
moment, a brake pedal pulsating is felt.
This whining sound and pulsation are due to
the self-diagnosis operation of the ABS and
does not indicate a malfunction.
l After driving on snowy roads, remove any
snow and ice which may have become ad-
hered to the wheel areas.
When doing this, be careful not to damage
the wheel speed sensors (A) and cables loca-ted at each wheel on vehicles equipped with
an ABS.
l The ABS becomes operative after the vehicle
has accelerated to a speed in excess of approx-
imately 10 km/h (6 mph). It stops operating
when the vehicle decelerates to a speed be-
low approximately 10 km/h (6 mph).
Electric power steering system E00607400026
The electric power steering system reduces the ef-
fort required to turn the steering wheel. It operates
while the engine is running.CAUTIONl Do not stop the engine while driving.
With the engine stopped, the steering ac-
tion would become extremely heavy and
an unexpected accident might occur.
NOTE
l If you repeatedly turn the steering wheel
fully to either side (while parking, for exam-
ple), a protective function that prevents the
system from overheating will be activated,
making the steering action gradually heavier.
In this event, turn the steering wheel as little
as possible for a while. When the system’s
temperature decreases, the steering action
will return to normal.
l If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi-
cle is stationary with its headlamps on, the
headlamps may grow dim. This phenomenon
does not indicate a fault. The headlamps will
return to their original brightness after a
short while.
Electric power steering warning lamp E00612400024
The electric power steering warning lamp comes
on and a buzzer sounds in the event of a control ab-
normality in the electric power steering system.
