OPENING/
CLOSING OF
DOORS
Emergency device for locking doors
from the outside
The doors are fitted with an emer-
gency device so that they can be
closed using a lock in the event of a
current failure.
In this case, to close the doors of the
car, proceed as follows:
❒fit the ignition key into the revolv-
ing plug B-fig. 1.
❒turn it to 1and close the door.

STARTING
THE ENGINE
STARTING WITH AN AUXILIARY
BATTERY
If the battery is lat, the engine may be
started using an auxiliary battery with
the same capacity or a little higher
than the flat one.
Proceed as follows:
❒connect the positive terminals (+
sign near the terminal) of the two
batteries using an appropriate ca-
ble; To re-open the door, proceed as fol-
lows:
❒fit the ignition key in the revolving
plug of the lock on the driver’s side
and turn it anticlockwise
❒open the door on the driver side
❒from the inside of the car, open the
remaining doors by lifting the re-
spective levers on the door han-
dles.

❒using a second cable connect the
negative terminal (–) of the auxil-
iary battery to the ground E
on the
engine or on the gearbox of the car
to be started;
❒Start the engine;
❒when the engine has been started,
remove the leads reversing the or-
der above.
If after various attempts the engine
does not start, do not persist in vain.
Contact a Lancia Dealership.
IMPORTANT Do not connect the neg-
ative terminals of the two batteries di-
rectly: sparks could ignite explosive
gas released from the battery. If the
auxiliary battery is installed on an-
other car, prevent accidental contact
between metallic parts of the two cars.Never use a quick battery
charger for the emergency
start: this could damage the
electronic systems and the
engine fuel feed and ignition control
units.
This starting procedure
must be carried out by expert per-
sonnel as incorrect manoeuvres can
cause electric discharges of consid-
erable intensity. Furthermore, bat-
tery fluid is poisonous and corrosive:
avoid contact with your skin and
eyes. Keep naked flames away from
the battery. No smoking. Do not
cause sparks.

lows:
❒open the tailgate;
❒remove the light Alevering in the
point shown by the arrow.
❒open the protection Band replace
the snap-fitted bulb;
❒re-close the protective cover Bon
the lens;
❒refit the light Ainserting it in its
correct position firstly on one end
and then on the other until it
clicks into place.

IF A FUSE BLOWS
GENERALITIES fig. 35
The fuse is a protective device for the
electric system: it comes into action
(i.e. it cuts off) mainly due to a fault
or improper action on the system.
Check the efficiency of the corre-
sponding fuse when a device does not
work: the conducting element Amust
not be interrupted. If it is, replace the
blown fuse with another with the
same amperage (same colour).
B: intact fuse.
C: fuse with damaged filament.
To replace a fuse use the pliers Dat-
tached to the fuse box on the instru-
ment dashboard.
fig. 35L0D0198m
If the fuse should fail again,
contact a Lancia Dealer-
ship.
WARNING
Never change a fuse with an-
other with a higher amp rat-
ing; DANGER OF FIRE.
If a general fuse (MEGA-
FUSE,MIDI-FUSE, MAXI-
FUSE) cuts in, contact a Lancia Deal-
ership.
WARNING
Before changing a fuse,
check that the ignition key
has been removed and that all the
other electric devices have been
turned off/disabled.

HOOKING THE TOW RING
Proceed as follows:
❒take the tow hook B-fig. 45from
its support;
❒tighten the ring on the rear or
front threaded pin.
fig. 45L0D0487m
fig. 46L0D0205m
The power brakes and the
electrical power steering
will not work while the car is being
towed. More effort on the brake
pedal and steering wheel will there-
fore be required. Do not use wires
for towing. Do not jerk. Make sure
not to damage parts in contact with
the car while towing. When towing
the vehicle, be sure to respect the
specific rules of the Highway Code
when towing the car specifically in
relation to the towing device and the
behaviour to maintain on the road.
WARNING
Before beginning the tow,
turn the ignition key to
MAR and then to STOP, without ex-
tracting it When the key is removed,
the steering wheel lock automati-
cally activates. making it impossible
to turn the wheels.
WARNING
During towing do not start
up the engine.

MAINTENANCE
AND CARE
IMPORTANT If the charge level re-
mains for a long time under 50%, the
battery is damaged by sulphation, re-
ducing its capacity and starting atti-
tude.
The battery will also be more at risk
of freezing (e.g. already at –10°C).
Refer to the paragraph “Car inactiv-
ity” in “Starting and driving” if the
car is left parked for a long time.
If after buying the car, you want to in-
stall electric accessories which require
permanent electric supply (alarm,
etc.) contact the Lancia Dealership
whose qualified personnel, in addition
to suggesting the most suitable devices
beloning to the Lancia Lineaccessori
line, will evaluate the overall electric
absorption, checking whether the car’s
electric system is capable of with-
standing the load required, or whether
it should be integrated with a more
powerful battery.
Since these devices continue absorb-
ing energy even when the ignition key
is off, they gradually run down the
battery.WHEELS
AND TYRES
Check the pressure of each type, in-
cluding the spare, approximately once
every two weeks and before starting a
long journey: this check must be per-
formed with the tyre rested and cold.
It is normal for the pressure to in-
crease when the car is used; for the
correct tyre inflation pressure, see
“Wheels” in “Technical specifica-
tions” section.
Incorrect pressure causes abnormal
tyre wear:
A: normal pressure: evenly worn
tread.
B: low pressure: tread particularly
worn on the edges.
C: excessive pressure: tread particu-
larly worn in the middle.
The tyres must be replaced when the
tread is less than 1.6 mm thick. In all
cases, follow the laws in force in the
country where you are driving.IMPORTANT NOTES
❒Avoid braking suddenly, burning
starts and violent knocks against
the curb, potholes or other obsta-
cles if possible. Long distances on
rough roads may damage the
tyres;
❒check the tyres regularly for cuts
on the sides, swelling or irregular
tread wear. Go to a Lancia Deal-
ership if required;
❒do not overload your car: this may
cause serious damage to wheels
and tyres;
❒if a tyre is punctured, stop imme-
diately and charge it to avoid
damage to the tyre, the rim, sus-
pensions and steering system;
