Inspect the radiator cap.
NOTE:
Thoroughly wipe out the radiator filler
neck to remove any waxy resi-
due or foreign material.
• Replace the cap if the metal plunger cannot be seen around the edge of the black rubber gasket.
• Replace the cap if deposits of waxy residue or other foreign mate- rial are on the black rubber gasket or the metal retainer.
• Pull negative-pressure valve to open it and make sure that it closes completely when released.
• Make sure that there is no dirt or damage on the valve seat of radi-
ator cap negative-pressure valve.
• Make sure that there are no unusualness in the opening and clos- ing conditions of negative-pressure valve.
Changing Engine CoolantINFOID:0000000003771285
WARNING:
• To avoid being scalded, never change the coolant when the engine is hot.
• Wrap a thick cloth around the cap to carefully remo ve the cap. First, turn the cap a quarter of a turn
to release any built-up pressure, then push down and turn the cap all the way to remove it.
DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT
1. Turn ignition switch ON and set temperature control lever all the way to HOT position or the highest tem-
perature position. Wait 10 seconds and turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Remove the engine front undercover using power tool.
3. Open the radiator drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, and remove the radiator filler cap. This is the only step required
when partially draining the cooling system (radiator only).
CAUTION:
Do not to allow the coolant to contact the drive belts.
4. When draining all of the coolant in the system for engine removal or repair, it is necessary to drain the cylinder block.
Remove the RH cylinder block drain plug to drain the right bank
and the oil cooler hose to drain the left bank as shown.

ENGINE COOLANT
5. Remove the reservoir tank to drain the engine coolant, then clean the reservoir tank before installing it.
6. Check the drained coolant for contaminants such as rust, corrosion or discoloration.
If the coolant is contaminated, flus h the engine cooling system. Refer to CO-11, "
Changing Engine Cool-
ant".
REFILLING ENGINE COOLANT
1. Close the radiator drain plug. Install the reservoir t ank, cylinder block drain plug, and the oil cooler hose, if
removed for a total system drain or for engine removal or repair.
• The radiator must be completely empty of coolant and water.
• Apply sealant to the threads of the cylinder bl ock drain plug. Use Genuine High Performance Thread
Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-15, "
Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants".
2. Set the vehicle heater controls to the full HOT and heat er ON position. Turn the vehicle ignition ON with
the engine OFF as necessary to activate the heater mode.
3. Remove the vented reservoir cap and replace it with a non-vented reservoir cap before filling the cooling
system.
4. Install the Tool by installing the radiator cap adapter onto the radiator neck opening. Then attach the gauge body assembly
with the refill tube and the venturi assembly to the radiator cap
adapter.
5. Insert the refill hose into the coolant mixture container that is placed at floor level. Make sure the ball valve is in the closed
position.
• Use Genuine NISSAN Long Life Anti-freeze coolant or equiva-lent, mixed 50/50 with distilled water or demineralized water.
Refer to MA-12, "
Fluids and Lubricants".
6. Install an air hose to the venturi assembly, the air pressure must be within specification.
CAUTION:
The compressed air supply must be equipped with an air
dryer.
7. The vacuum gauge will begin to rise and there will be an audible hissing noise. During this process open the ball valve on the refill hose slightly. Coolant will be vi sible rising in the refill hose. Once the refill hose is
full of coolant, close the ball valve. This will purge any air trapped in the refill hose.

RADIATOR
Do not allow coolant to contact drive belt.
5. Remove the lower radiator shroud. • Release the tabs, pull lower radiator shroud rearwards and
down to remove.
6. Disconnect the radiator upper hose and the coolant reservoir hose from the radiator. CAUTION:
Do not allow coolant to contact drive belt.
7. Remove the radiator shroud upper bolts and remove the radiator shroud upper (A).
8. Remove the upper radiator mounting bolts and rubbers.
9. Remove the A/C condenser bolts and brackets. NOTE:

Filament CheckINFOID:0000000003776364
1. When measuring voltage, wrap tin foil around the top of the neg- ative probe. Then press the foil against the wire with your finger.
2. Attach probe circuit tester (in Volt range) to middle portion of each filament.
3. If a filament is burned out, circuit tester registers 0 or battery voltage.
4. To locate burned out point, move probe to left and right along fil- ament. Test needle will swing abruptly when probe passes the
point.

HOOD
4. Install the primary and secondary cables securely to the hood
lock.
5. Install the hood lock and the secondary hood lock release assemblies.
6. Check the hood lock adjustment and hood opener operation. Refer to DLK-229, "
Fitting Adjustment".
7. Install the remaing componets in the reverse order of removal.
Hood Lock Control InspectionINFOID:0000000003775854
CAUTION:
If the hood lock cable is bent or deformed, replace it.
1. Remove the front grille. Refer to EXT-17, "
Removal and Installation".
2. Make sure the secondary latch is properly engaged with the sec- ondary striker with hood's own weight by dropping it from
approx. 200 mm (7.87 in) height.
3. While operating the hood opener, carefully make sure the front end of the hood is raised by approx. 20 mm (0.79 in). Also make
sure the hood opener returns to the original position.
4. Check the hood lock lubrication condition. If necessary, apply “body grease” to the points shown in the figure.
5. Install the front grille. Refer to EXT-17, "
Removal and Installa-
tion".
Hood Stay DisposalINFOID:0000000005877751
1. Fix hood stay (1) using a vise (C).
2. Using hacksaw (A) slowly make 2 holes in the hood stay, in numerical order as shown in the figure.
CAUTION:
• When cutting a hole on hood stay, always cover a hack-saw using a shop cloth (B) to avoid scattering metal frag-
ments or oil.
• Wear eye protection (safety glasses).
• Wear gloves.
