To Remove The Ignition Key
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC"position.
2. Simultaneously push and turn the ignition key counterclockwise from the "ACC" position to the "LOCK"position.
3. The key can be removed in the
"LOCK" position.
NOTE: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
o "ON" When the key is in the "ON" position, the ignition is on and all accessories may be turned on. If the engine is not running, the key should not be left inthe "ON" position. This will discharge the battery and may also damage the ignition system.
o "ACC" With the key in the "ACC" position, some electrical accessories (radio, etc.) may be operated.
o "LOCK" The key can be removed or inserted in this position.To protect against theft, the steering wheel locks by removing the key.

WARNING:
The engine should not be turned off or the key removed from the ignition key cylinder while the ve- hicle is in motion. The steeringwheel is locked by removing the key.

Never run the engine in a closed or poorly ventilated area any longer than is needed to move your car inor out of the area. The carbon mon- oxide gas emitted is odorless and can cause serious injury or death. C050B01A-AAT Normal Conditions: The Starting Procedure:
1. Insert key, and fasten the seat belt.
2. Depress the clutch pedal fully and
place the gearshift lever (manualtransaxle) in neutral or the selectorlever (automatic transaxle) in "P" (park) position.
3. After turning the ignition key to the "ON" position, make certain all warn-ing lights and gauges are function- ing properly before starting the en-gine.
WARNING:
Be sure that the clutch is fully de-pressed when starting a manual transaxle vehicle. Your manual transaxle equipped vehicle will notstart unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed. On a manual transaxle equipped vehicle that can be startedwithout depressing the clutch, there is the potential to cause damage to the vehicle or injury to someone inside or outside the vehicle as aresult of the forward or backward movement of the vehicle that will occur if the clutch is not depressedwhen the vehicle is started.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "START"
position and release it when the engine starts. After the engine has started, allowthe engine to run for 10 to 20 sec- onds prior to placing the vehicle in gear. The starter should not be operated for more than 15 seconds at a time.Wait 15-30 seconds between start- ing attempts to protect the starter from overheating.

C090P01A-GAT Overdrive Switch
When the overdrive switch is turned on, the transaxle will automatically upshift to the second, third and overdrive gears.When the overdrive switch is turned off,
the transaxle will not upshift to the over- drive gear. For normal driving, the selec-tor lever should be left in the "D" position
and the overdrive switch turned on. If you need to accelerate rapidly, pressthe accelerator pedal all the way to the floor. The transaxle will automatically shift to a lower gear, depending on thevehicle speed and load.

CAUTION:
o Shift into "R", "D" and "P" posi- tion only when the vehicle has completely stopped.
o Do not accelerate the engine in
reverse or any of the forwardpositions with the brakes applied.
o Always apply the footbrake when shifting from "P" or "N", to "R","D", "2" or "L" position.
o Do not use the "P" (Park) posi- tion in place of the hand brake.Always set the hand brake, shift the transaxle into "P" (Park) po-sition and turn off the ignition when you leave the vehicle, even momentarily. Never leave the ve-hicle unattended while the en- gine is running.
o When accelerating from a stop on a steep hill, the vehicle may havea tendency to roll backwards. Shift- ing the shift lever into 2nd gearwill help prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards.
o Check the automatic transaxle fluid level regularly, and add fluid asnecessary.

o For smooth and safe operation,
depress the brake pedal when shifting from "Neutral" position or "Park" position to a forward or reverse gear.
o The ignition key must be in the "ON" position and the brake pedalfully depressed in order to movethe shift lever from the "P" (Park) position to any of the other posi- tions.
o It is always possible to shift from "R", "N", "D", "2", L" position to"P" position. The vehicle mustbe fully stopped to avoid transaxle damage.

C310B01JM-AAT ESP ON/OFF Mode When the ESP is operating, the ESP indicator in the instrument cluster willblink. If you turn the system off by pressing the ESP switch, the ESP-OFF indica-tor will come on and stay on. In the ESP-OFF mode, the stability control will be deactivated. Adjust your drivingaccordingly. To turn the system back on, press the switch again. The ESP- OFF indicator should go off. NOTE: The ESP mode will automatically be turned ON after the engine is turnedoff and restarted. C310D01JM-DAT Indicators and Warning The indicators should illuminate when the ignition key is turned to ON orSTART but should go out after three seconds. If the indicators do not illuminate, or theESP or ESP-OFF indicator does not go out after 3 seconds, have the vehicle checked by an authorised dealer. Should there be any unusual conditions in the device while driving, ESP-OFFindicator illuminates as a warning. If ESP-OFF indicator illuminates, pull your car to a safe place and stop theengine. Then, start the engine again to check if the ESP-OFF indicator goes out. If the indicator remains lit even after the engine has been started, have your carchecked by an authorised Hyundai dealer.

CAUTION:
Driving with varying tyre or wheel size may cause the ESP system tomalfunction. When replacing tyres, make sure they are the same size as your original tyres.!
Factors including speed, road condi- tions and driver steering input can allaffect whether ESP will be effective in preventing a loss of control. It is still your responsibility to drive and cornerat reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.
WARNING:
Electronic stability program is only a driving aid; all normal precautions for driving in bad weather and on slippery road surfaces should beobserved.

Types of warning sound
o When an object is 120 cm to 81 cm(47 in. to 32 in.) from the rear bumper : Buzzer beeps intermittently
o When an object is 80 cm to 41 cm (31
in. to 16 in.) from the rear bumper :Buzzer beeps more frequently
o When an object is within 40 cm (15 in.) of the rear bumper : Buzzersounds continuously.
Non-operational conditions of rear parking assist system The rear parking assist system may not operate properly when: 1. Moisture is frozen to the sensor. (It will operate normally when the mois- ture has been cleared.)
2. The sensor is covered with foreign
matter, such as snow or water, or thesensor cover is blocked. (It will oper- ate normally when the material isremoved or the sensor is no longer blocked.)
3. Driving on uneven road surfaces
(unpaved roads, gravel, bumps, gra-dient).

REAR PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM
C400A03P-DAT (If Installed) The rear parking assist system assists the driver during backward movementof the vehicle by chiming if any object is sensed within a distance of 120 cm (47 in.) behind the vehicle. This systemis a supplemental system and it is not intended to nor does it replace the need for extreme care and attention of thedriver. The sensing range and objects detectable by the back sensors are limited. Whenever backing-up, pay asmuch attention to what is behind you as you would in a vehicle without a rear parking assist system.

Operation of the rear parking assist system Operating condition
o This system will activate when back-
ing up with the ignition key ON. If the vehicle is moving at a speed over 5 km/h (3 mph), the system may not be activated correctly.
o The sensing distance while the Rear Parking Assist System is in opera-tion is approximately 120 cm (47 in.).
o When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the closestone will be recognised first. WARNING:
The Rear Parking Assist System is asupplementary function only. The operation of the Rear Parking Assist System can be affected by severalfactors (including environmental con- ditions). It is the responsibility of the driver to always check the area be-hind the vehicle before backing up.

C160K01A-DAT Carry Emergency Equipment Depending on the severity of the weather where you drive your car, you should carry appropriate emergency equipment. Some of the items youmay want to carry include tyre chains, tow straps or chains, flashlight, emer- gency flares, sand, a shovel, jumpercables, a window scraper, gloves, ground cloth, overalls, a blanket, etc.
C160J01A-AAT Don't Let Ice and Snow Accumu- late Underneath Under some conditions, snow and ice can build up under the fenders andinterfere with the steering. When driv- ing in severe winter conditions where this may happen, you should periodi-cally check underneath the car to be sure the movement of the front wheels and the steering components are notobstructed.
C160G01A-DAT To Keep Locks from Freezing To keep the locks from freezing, squirt an approved de-icer fluid or glycerineinto the key opening. If a lock is cov- ered with ice, squirt it with an approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If thelock is frozen internally, you may be able to thaw it out by using a heated key. Handle the heated key with careto avoid injury. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobiliser key is from -40°C to 80°C. If you heat the immobiliser key over 80°C to open a frozen lock, itmay cause damage to the transpon- der in its head. C160H01A-DAT Use Approved Anti-Freeze in Window Washer System To keep the water in the window washer system from freezing, add an approvedanti-freeze solution in accordance with instructions on the container. Window washer anti-freeze is available fromHyundai dealers and most auto parts outlets. Do not use engine coolant or other types of anti-freeze as thesemay damage the paint finish. C160I01A-DAT Don't Let Your Hand Brake Freeze Under some conditions your hand brake can freeze in the engaged posi- tion. This is most likely to happen when there is an accumulation of snow or icearound or near the rear brakes or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk the hand brake may freeze, apply it onlytemporarily while you put the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or in first or reverse gear (manual transaxle)and block the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then release the hand brake.

IF THE ENGINE WILL NOT START
D010B02A-AAT If Engine Doesn't Turn Over or Turns Over Slowly
1. If your car has an automatic
transaxle, be sure the gear selector lever is in "N" or "P" and the emer- gency brake is set.
2. Check the battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight.
3. Turn on the interior light. If the light
dims or goes out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.
4. Check the starter connections to be
sure they are securely tightened.
5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to
start it. See instructions for "Jump Starting" on the following pages. D010C01A-AAT If Engine Turns Over Normally but Does Not Start
1. Check fuel level.
2. With the key in the "OFF" position,
check all connectors at ignition coilsand spark plugs. Reconnect anythat may be disconnected or loose.
3 Check the fuel line in the engine
room.
4 If engine still refuses to start, call a Hyundai dealer or seek other quali-fied assistance.

If the engine will not start, do notpush or pull the car to start it. This could result in a collision or cause other damage. In addition, push orpull starting may cause the cata- lytic converter to be overloaded and create a fire hazard.

8. Lower the vehicle to the ground by using the wheel brace and tighten the nuts fully by using the wheel brace. 10. Check and adjust the air pressure
ensuring that the valve cap is re-placed afterwards.
11. Return the jack, tool bag and spare wheel to the boot.
12. As soon as possible, check the wheel nut torque and adjust to the specification listed below:
Wheel nut tightening torque Steel wheel & aluminium alloy wheel: 900 ~ 1,100 kg.cm (65 ~ 80 lb.ft)
7. Replace the roadwheel, fit the wheel
nuts, with the tapered end towards the wheel and tighten.

IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A01O-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealer or a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is notdamaged in towing. Also, professionals are generally aware of local laws gov- erning towing. In any case, rather thanrisk damage to your car, it is suggested that you show this information to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safetychain system is used and that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle betowed with a wheel lift and dollies or flatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.
! CAUTION:
o Your vehicle can be damaged if towed incorrectly!
o Be sure the transaxle is in neutral.
o When the engine will not start, be sure the steering is unlocked byplacing the key in the "ACC" posi-tion.
9. Reinstall wheel cap by fitting the
boss of the wheel cap in the grooveof the wheel, hitting the centre of the wheel cap with your hand. (If Installed)
