10. In ate the tire to the recommended in ation pressure
using the pressure gage (C). The recommended
in ation pressure can be found on the Tire and
Loading Information label. SeeInflation - Tire
Pressure on page 5-60.
The pressure gage (C) may read higher than the
actual tire pressure while the compressor is on.
Turn the compressor off to get an accurate pressure
reading. The compressor may be turned on/off
until the correct pressure is reached.
Notice:If the recommended pressure cannot be
reached after approximately 25 minutes, the vehicle
should not be driven farther. The tire is too severely
damaged and the tire sealant and compressor kit
cannot in ate the tire. Remove the power plug from
the accessory power outlet and unscrew the in ating
hose from the tire valve. SeeRoadside Assistance
Program on page 7-7.
11. Press the on/off button (B) to turn the tire sealant
and compressor kit off.
The tire is not sealed and will continue to leak air
until the vehicle is driven and the sealant is
distributed in the tire, therefore, Steps 12 through
18 must be done immediately after Step 11.
Be careful while handling the tire sealant and
compressor kit as it could be warm after usage.12. Unplug the power plug (H) from the accessory
power outlet in the vehicle.
13. Turn the sealant/air hose (F) counterclockwise to
remove it from the tire valve stem.
14. Replace the tire valve stem cap.
15. Replace the sealant/air hose (F), and the power
plug (H) back in their original location.

it in a highly visible

The label is a reminder not to exceed 55 mph
(90 km/h) until the damaged tire is repaired

17. Return the equipment to its original storage location

18. Immediately drive the vehicle 5 miles (8 km) to
distribute the sealant in the tire.

19. Stop at a safe location and check the tire pressure.
Refer to Steps 1 through 11 under “Using the Tire
Sealant and Compressor Kit without Sealant to
In ate a Tire (Not Punctured).”
If the tire pressure has fallen more than 10 psi
(68 kPa) below the recommended in ation pressure,
stop driving the vehicle. The tire is too severely
damaged and the tire sealant cannot seal the tire.

If the tire pressure has not dropped more than
10 psi (68 kPa) from the recommended in ation
pressure, in ate the tire to the recommended
in ation pressure.
20. Wipe off any sealant from the wheel, tire, and
vehicle.
21. Dispose of the used sealant canister (E) and sealant/
air hose (F) assembly at a local dealer/retailer or in
accordance with local state codes and practices.
22. Replace it with a new canister available from your
dealer/retailer.
23. After temporarily sealing a tire using the tire sealant
and compressor kit, take the vehicle to an authorized
dealer/retailer within a 100 miles (161 km) of driving
to have the tire repaired or replaced.Using the Tire Sealant and Compressor

To use the air compressor to in ate a tire with air only
and not sealant:

7. Start the vehicle. The vehicle must be running while
using the air compressor.
8. Turn the selector switch (A) clockwise to the Air
Only position.
9. Press the on/off (B) button to turn the compressor on.
The compressor will in ate the tire with air only.

using the pressure gage (C). The recommended
in ation pressure can be found on the Tire and
Loading Information label. SeeInflation - Tire
Pressure on page 5-60.

12. Unplug the power plug (H) from the accessory
power outlet in the vehicle.
13. Disconnect the air only hose (G) from the tire valve
stem, by turning it counterclockwise, and replace
the tire valve stem cap.
14. Replace the air only hose (G) and the power
plug (H) and cord back in its original location.
15. Place the equipment in the original storage location
in the vehicle.

The tire sealant and compressor kit has an accessory
adapter located in a compartment on the bottom of
its housing that may be used to in ate air mattresses,
balls, etc.
Removal and Installation of the Sealant
Canister
To remove the sealant canister:
1. Unwrap the sealant hose.
2. Press the canister release button.
3. Pull up and remove the canister.
4. Replace with a new canister which is available from
your dealer/retailer.
5. Push the new canister into place.

extension (D) in the slots provided.
2. Roll up the instruction label (C) and return to the
slot in the tool kit.
3. Assemble the wheel blocks (F) to the jack.

jack head.
5. Return the rear seat to its proper position.
Spare Tire
This vehicle may have a spare tire. Although the spare
tire was fully in ated when the vehicle was new, it can
lose air after a time. Check the in ation pressure
regularly. SeeInflation - Tire Pressure on page 5-60
andLoading the Vehicle on page 4-31for information
regarding proper tire in ation and loading your vehicle.
For instruction on how to remove, install or store a spare
tire, seeRemoving the Flat Tire and Installing the Spare

After installing the spare tire on your vehicle, you should
stop as soon as possible and make sure the spare is
correctly in ated. The spare tire is made to perform well
at speeds up to 70 mph (112 km/h) at the recommended
in ation pressure, so you can nish your trip.
Have the damaged or at road tire repaired or replaced
as soon as you can and installed back onto your vehicle.
This way, a spare tire will be available in case you need it
again. Do not mix tires and wheels of different sizes,
because they will not t. Keep your spare tire and its
wheel together.

At Each Fuel Fill
It is important to perform these underhood checks at
each fuel fill.
Engine Oil Level Check
Notice:It is important to check the engine oil
regularly and keep it at the proper level. Failure to
keep the engine oil at the proper level can cause
damage to the engine not covered by the vehicle
warranty.
Check the engine oil level and add the proper oil if
necessary. SeeEngine Oil on page 5-15.
Engine Coolant Level Check
Check the engine coolant level and add DEX-COOL®
coolant mixture if necessary. SeeEngine Coolant
on page 5-25.
Windshield Washer Fluid Level Check
Check the windshield washer uid level in the windshield
washer uid reservoir and add the proper uid if
necessary.
At Least Once a Month
Tire In ation Check
Inspect the vehicle’s tires and make sure they are
in ated to the correct pressures. Do not forget to
check the spare tire, if the vehicle has one. See
Inflation - Tire Pressure on page 5-60. If the vehicle
has a spare tire, check to make sure it is stored
securely. SeeChanging a Flat Tire on page 5-88.
Tire Wear Inspection
Tire rotation may be required for high mileage highway
drivers prior to the Engine Oil Life System service
noti cation. Check the tires for wear and, if necessary,

Ignition Transmission Lock Check
While parked, and with the parking brake set, try to turn
the ignition to LOCK/OFF in each shift lever position.
The ignition should turn to LOCK/OFF only
when the shift lever is in P (Park).
The ignition key should come out only in
LOCK/OFF.
Contact your dealer/retailer if service is required.
Parking Brake and Automatic
Transmission P (Park) Mechanism
Check
{CAUTION:
When you are doing this check, the vehicle could
begin to move. You or others could be injured and
property could be damaged. Make sure there is
room in front of the vehicle in case it begins to roll.
Be ready to apply the regular brake at once
should the vehicle begin to move.Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing
downhill. Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set the
parking brake.
To check the parking brake’s holding ability: With the
engine running and the transmission in N (Neutral),
slowly remove foot pressure from the regular brake
pedal. Do this until the vehicle is held by the parking
brake only.
To check the P (Park) mechanism’s holding ability:
With the engine running, shift to P (Park). Then
release the parking brake followed by the regular
brake.
Contact your dealer/retailer if service is required.
Underbody Flushing Service
At least every spring, use plain water to ush any
corrosive materials from the underbody. Take care to
clean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debris
can collect.
Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit
If the vehicle has a Tire Sealant and Compressor
Kit, check the sealant expiration date printed on the
instruction label of the kit at least once a year.
See your dealer/retailer for a replacement canister.
