SIDE BAGS
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Some versions have front side bags on
both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
Side bags protect vehicle occupants from
side crashes of medium-high severity, by
placing the bag between the occupant and
the internal parts of the side structure of
the vehicle.
Non-deployment of side bags in other
types of collisions (front collisions, rear
shunts, roll-overs, etc...) does not neces-
sarily indicate a system malfunction.
An electronic control unit causes the bags
to inflate in the event of a frontal crash.
The bags inflate instantaneously placing
themselves between the front occupant’s
body and the structures which could cause
injury. They deflate immediately after-
wards.
Side bags are not a replacement of, but
complementary to, the seat belts, which
you are always recommended to wear, as
specified by law in Europe and in most
non-European countries.
For this reason, the seat belt must be
worn at all times. During side collisions
the seat belts hold the occupant in the
correct position and prevent ejection
from the vehicle during very violent colli-
sions.SIDE BAGS fig. 16
(for versions/markets, where provided)
It consists of an instant-inflating bag
housed in the front seat backrest. It pro-
tects the chest and the hips of the pas-
sengers in the event of side crashes of
medium-high severity.
IMPORTANT In the event of a side crash,
the system provides best protection if the
passenger sits on the seat in a correct po-
sition, thus allowing correct side bag de-
ployment.
IMPORTANT Do not wash the seats with
water or pressurised steam (by hand or at
automatic seat washing stations).

SAFETY
When the ignition key is
turned to MAR, the warning
light
¬turns on (front airbag on pas-
senger’s side enabled) and blinks for
a few seconds to remind that the pas-
senger airbag will activate in the
event of a collision. Then it turns off.
WARNING
The front airbags deploy in
the event of more severe col-
lisions than those required for de-
ploying the pretensioners. When the
shock is within the two deployment
thresholds, it is normal that preten-
sioners only are engaged.
WARNING
The airbag does not replace
seat belts, but increases their
efficiency. Furthermore, since front
airbags are not deployed after low
speed collisions, side collisions, rear-
end shunts or roll-overs, the vehicle
occupants are only protected by the
seat belts, which must be fastened at
all times.
WARNING
When the ignition key is in
and turned in the MAR posi-
tion and the engine is off, the airbags
may deploy if the vehicle is crashed by
another moving vehicle. For this rea-
son, children must never sit on the
front seat, even if the vehicle is not
moving. We remind you that if the key
is inserted and turned in the STOP po-
sition, no safety device (airbag or pre-
tensioner) activates following a colli-
sion. Non-deployment in such cases
must not be considered as the sign of
a malfunction.
WARNING
If the vehicle is stolen or an
attempt is made to steal it, if
it is subject to criminal attacks or
flooding, have the airbag system
checked by the Fiat Dealership.

On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.
In these conditions, the vehicle can con-
tinue travelling at moderate speed with-
out demanding excessive effort from the
engine. Go to a Fiat Dealership as soon as
possible.
EOBD engine
control system failure
Under normal conditions, when the igni-
tion key is moved to MAR, the warning
light turns on and should go off after en-
gine start-up.
This indicates that the warning light is
working correctly. If the warning light ei-
ther stays on or comes on during vehicle
travel, the following applies.
❒Steady light: indicates a fault in the sup-
ply/ignition system which could cause
high emissions at the exhaust, possible
reduced performances, poor drivabili-
ty and high fuel consumption levels.
On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.
In these conditions, the vehicle can con-
tinue travelling at moderate speed with-
out demanding excessive effort from
the engine or high speeds. Prolonged
use of the vehicle with the warning light
on may cause damage. Go to a Fiat
Dealership as soon as possible.
The warning light goes out after the
fault is cleared, and the indication is
stored in the system. SEAT BELTS
NOT FASTENED
(red)
The warning light in the panel turns on
steadily when the vehicle is not running
and the seat belt on the driver’s side is not
correctly fastened. The warning light
blinks, and a buzzer goes off, when the ve-
hicle is running and the front seat belts are
not correctly fastened.
The buzzer of the S.B.R. (Seat Belt Re-
minder) system can only be switched off
by a Fiat Dealership.
On some versions the system can be re-
activated from the setup menu.MINIMUM
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
(red)
Turning the ignition key to MARthe
warning light on the panel turns on, but
it should go off after a few seconds.
The warning light goes on in the panel
when the oil level drops below the mini-
mum value. Top up the oil to the correct
level (see “Level checking” in section
“Maintenance and care”).
On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.

Injection system failure
Under normal conditions, when the igni-
tion key is moved to MAR, the warning
light turns on and should go off after en-
gine start-up.
If the warning light stays on or turns on
when travelling, a fault in the supply/igni-
tion system has occurred, which could
cause high emissions at the exhaust, pos-
sible lack of performance, poor handling
and high fuel consumption levels.
