"Foot on brake" T h e fl a s h i n g o f t h i s w a r n i n g
lamp on the display informs
you that you need to press
the brake pedal in order
to be able to start the engine on a
vehicle with the (6-speed) Electronic
Gearbox System, or to quit position P
in the case of an automatic gearbox.
This warning lamp comes on if you
attempt to release the electric parking
brake without pressing the brake
pedal.
In the case of the Electronic Gearbox
S y s t e m , t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s
to indicate overheating of the clutch
if you excessively use the accelera-
tor to hold the vehicle on an uphill
slope. Use the brake pedal or the
electric parking brake.
Parking space available
This warning lamp comes
on when the parking space
function is selected.
I t fl a s h e s w h i l e t h e s p a c e i s
being measured. Electric child lock
If lit, the child lock is activat-
ed. This warning lamp is dis-
played a few seconds after
the function is activated.
Deactivation warning lamps
If one of the following warning lamps
c o m e s o n , t h i s c o n fi r m s t h a t t h e
corresponding system has been
switched off intentionally.
Passenger's air bag system
deactivation
Dynamic stability control
(ESP/ASR) deactivation
The ESP/ASR system is put
into service automatically
when the vehicle is started. Warning lamps
Diesel engine pre-heating
Wait until this goes off before oper-
ating the starter.
The passenger's air bag
system is put into service
automatically when the ve-
hicle is started.
A s p e c i fi c c o n t r o l , l o c a t e d i n t h e g l o v e
box, permits deactivation of the sys-
t e m . T h i s i s c o n fi r m e d b y c o n t i n u o u s
lighting of this warning lamp on the
instrument panel or a message on
the NaviDrive multifunction screen. A s p e c i fi c b u t t o n , l o c a t e d i n t h e c e n t r e
of the dashboard, permits deactiva-
t i o n o f t h e s y s t e m . T h i s i s c o n fi r m e d
by continuous lighting of this warning
lamp and of the indicator lamp on the
button.
From approximately 30 mph (50 km/h),
the system is reactivated automatically.
When the engine is running or the vehi-
cle is moving, the lighting of one of the
following warning lamps indicates the
occurrence of a fault requiring interven-
tion on the part of the driver.
Any fault resulting in the display-
ing of a warning lamp must be in-
vestigated further by reading the
associated message on the mul-
tifunction screen.
Should you encounter any prob-
lems, do not hesitate to contact a
CITROËN dealer.

Lighting is associated
with the displaying of
another warning light:
Service If this comes on, it indi-
cates the occurrence of
a problem in one of the
systems which does
n o t h a v e a s p e c i fi c w a r n i n g l i g h t .
In order to identify it, consult the
message on the multifunction dis-
play.
The warning light only comes on
temporarily in the case of the follow-
ing minor faults:
- incorrect closing of the doors, boot, rear screen and bonnet,
- fl a t r e m o t e c o n t r o l b a t t e r y ,
- incorrect tyre pressure,
- the end of saturation of the parti- c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r ( D i e s e l ) .
In the case of major faults, the
warning light remains on until the
o p e r a t i n g f a u l t i s r e c t i fi e d , c o n t a c t
a CITROËN dealer as soon as
possible. Braking
If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
one of the braking systems:
- s i g n i fi c a n t d r o p i n t h e l e v e l i n t h e circuit,
- electronic brake force distribu- tion (EBFD) faulty (simultane-
ous lighting of the ABS warning
light),
stop the vehicle immediately and as
safely as possible.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Application/Release of the
automatic electronic parking
brake If this warning lamp comes
o n p e r m a n e n t l y , i t i s c o n fi r m -
ing that the parking brake is
applied.
I f i t fl a s h e s , i t i s i n d i c a t i n g a n a p -
plication or release fault. Contact a
CITROËN dealer urgently (see sec-
tion "Driving - § Electronic parking
brake"). Automatic electronic parking
brake fault
This warning lamp comes
on if there is a malfunction
in the automatic electronic
parking brake.
Deactivation of the automatic
functions of the automatic
electronic parking brake
This comes on if the "auto-
matic application" and "au-
tomatic release" functions
when you switch off the
engine are deactivated * or
faulty.
Dynamic stability control
(ESP/ASR). The ESP/ASR system is put
into service automatically
when the vehicle is started.
Unless the system has been deactivated, if
this warning lamp and the indicator lamp on
the button come on continuously, this indi-
cates the occurrence of a fault in the ESP/
ASR system or in the hill start assistance.
Engine autodiagnostics
system If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
the engine management
system.
I f i t fl a s h e s , i t i n d i c a t e s t h e o c c u r -
rence of a fault in the emission con-
trol system.
Central alert
- punctured wheel,
- braking,
- coolant temperature,
stop the vehicle immediately and as
safely as possible.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
the anti-lock braking system.
However, this does not pre-
vent operation of the vehicle's as-
sisted braking.

the tyre pressure during driving and
trigger a warning in the event of
malfunction (speed above 12 mph
(20 km/h).
Flat tyre T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system is an aid to driving which
does not replace the vigilance or
responsibility of the driver. Puncture
The service warning lamp
comes on in the instru-
ment panel, accompanied
by an audible signal and
a message on the multi-
function screen locating
the wheel concerned.
Check the tyre pressures as soon as
possible. This check must be carried
out when the tyres are cold. The
STOP warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel, accompanied by an
audible signal and a mes-
sage on the multifunction
screen locating the wheel
concerned.
Stop immediately, avoiding any sudden
movement of the steering wheel and
the brakes.
Change the damaged wheel (punctured
o r v e r y d e fl a t e d t y r e ) , a n d h a v e t h e t y r e
pressure checked as soon as possible.
Sensor(s) not detected or faulty
The service warning
lamp comes on in the
instrument panel, ac-
companied by an audible
signal and a message on
the multifunction screen
locating the wheel or wheels which
are not detected or indicating a fault
in the system.
Have the faulty sensor(s) checked
by a CITROËN dealer. All repairs and changing of tyres
o n a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h i s s y s t e m
must be carried out by a CITROËN
dealer.
If, when changing a tyre, you in-
stall a wheel which is not detected
b y y o u r v e h i c l e ( e x a m p l e : fi t t i n g
of snow tyres), you must have the
system reinitialised by a CITROËN
dealer.
This system does not eliminate
the need to have the tyre pres-
sure checked regularly (refer to the
" T e c h n i c a l d a t a - § I d e n t i fi c a t i o n
features" section) to ensure that
the optimum dynamic perform-
ance of the vehicle is maintained
and prevent premature wear of the
tyres, particularly in arduous driv-
ing conditions (heavy load, high
speed).
The tyre pressures must be
checked cold, at least once a
month. Remember to check the
pressure of the spare wheel.
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
s y s t e m m a y e x p e r i e n c e t e m p o r a r y
interference due to radio-electric
emissions on a frequency close to
that used by the system.
This message is also displayed
when one of the wheels is away
from the vehicle (being repaired) or
when one or more wheels without a
s e n s o r a r e fi t t e d .

BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS
Group of supplementary systems
which help you to obtain optimum
braking in complete safety in emer-
gency situations:
- anti-lock braking system (ABS),
- electronic brake force distribu-tion (EBFD),
- emergency braking assistance (EBA).
Anti-lock braking system
and electronic brake force
distribution
Linked systems which improve the
stability and manoeuvrability of your
vehicle when braking, in particular
on poor or slippery surfaces.
Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
there is a risk of wheel lock.
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibration of
the brake pedal. Operating fault
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
the pressure. If this warning lamp comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multi-function screen,
it indicates a malfunction of the anti-
lock braking system which could re-
sult in loss of control of the vehicle
when braking.
If this warning lamp comes on,
together with the STOP and
ABS warning lamps, accom-
panied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction
screen, it indicates a malfunction of
the electronic brake force distribution
which could result in loss of control of
the vehicle when braking.
You MUST stop as soon as it is
safe to do so.
In both cases, contact a CITROËN
dealer.
When replacing wheels (tyres and
rims), ensure that they conform to the
manufacturer's recommendations. Emergency braking assistance
System which, in an emergency, enables you to obtain the optimum braking pressure more quickly, thus reducing the stopping distance.
Activation
It is triggered by the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed.
The effect of this is a reduction in the resistance of the pedal and an i n c r e a s e i n b r a k i n g e f fi c i e n c y .
When braking in an emergency, p r e s s fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e pressure.

TRAJECTORY CONTROL SYSTEMS
Anti-skid regulation (ASR) and
electronic stability programme
(ESP)
The anti-skid regulation (also known
as Traction Control) optimises trac-
tion to prevent skidding of the wheels,
by acting on the brakes of the driving
wheels and on the engine.
The electronic stability programme
acts on the brake of one or more
wheels and on the engine to keep
the vehicle on the trajectory required
by the driver.
Activation
These systems are activated auto-
matically each time the vehicle is
started.
They come into operation in the event
of a grip or trajectory problem. T h i s i s i n d i c a t e d b y fl a s h i n g
of this warning lamp on the
instrument panel. Deactivation
I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
vehicle which is bogged down, stuck
in snow, on soft ground...), it may be
advisable to deactivate the ASR and
ESP systems, so that the wheels
can move freely and regain grip.
Press the "ESP OFF" button, lo-
cated in the centre of the dash-
board. Reactivation
These systems are reactivated au-
tomatically each time the ignition is
switched back on or from 30 mph
(50 km/h).
Press the "ESP OFF" button again
to reactivate them manually.
If this warning lamp comes
on in the instrument panel
and the indicator lamp on the
button comes on, this indi-
cates that the ASR and ESP
systems are deactivated. Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multifunction screen,
this indicates a malfunction of these
systems.
Have the systems checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
T h e E S P / A S R s y s t e m s o f f e r e x -
ceptional safety in normal driving,
but this should not encourage the
d r i v e r t o t a k e e x t r a r i s k s o r d r i v e a t
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
dations regarding the wheels (tyres
and rims), the braking components,
the electronic components and the
CITROËN assembly and operation
procedures.
After an impact, have these systems
checked by a CITROËN dealer.

ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE
The electric parking brake operates
as follows
- Automatic application/release
Application is automatic when the
engine stops, release is automatic
on use of the accelerator.
- Manual application/release
Manual application/release of the parking brake is possible by
pulling control A while pressing
the brake pedal. Manual application
With the vehicle stationary, to apply
the parking brake whether the engine
is running or off,
pull on control A . Manual release
With the ignition on or the engine
running, to release the parking
brake, press on the brake pedal, or
the accelerator,
pull then release
control A .
- the extinction of the warning lamp P on con-
trol A and on the instru-
ment panel,
- the display of a message "park- ing brake released" on the multi-
function screen.
If you pull control A without pressing
the brake pedal, the parking brake
will not be released and the "Foot on
brake" warning lamp will light up on
the instrument panel.

When the driver’s door is
opened with the engine run-
ning, a beep is heard and a
message displayed if the parking

check that the warning lamp P is lit
permanently on the instrument panel.

tomatic functions are activated
but you are applying the parking
brake manually,
- when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a ferry, in a lorry, during towing),
- in the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or parking on a gradient,
turn the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park,
- after a maximum application, the release time will be longer.
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P
on the instrument panel is
permanently lit.
Never leave a child alone inside the
vehicle with the ignition on, as they
could release the parking brake.
