Removal and Installation of the Sealant
Canister
To remove the sealant canister:
1. Unwrap the sealant hose.
2. Press the canister release button.
3. Pull up and remove the canister.
4. Replace with a new canister which is available from
your dealer/retailer.
5. Push the new canister into place.
Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit
Storage
The tire sealant and compressor kit is located in
the trunk.

1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 2-19.
2. Locate the tire sealant and compressor kit (A) in the
center of the cargo area.
3. Remove the wing nut (C) that holds the tire sealant
and compressor kit (A) in place.
4. Remove the tire sealant and compressor kit (A)
from the foam container (B).

Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit with
Pressure Deation Button
1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 2-19.
2. Remove the retainer that holds the tire sealant and
compressor kit in place.
3. Remove the tire sealant and compressor kit from
the foam container.
To store the tire sealant and compressor kit, reverse
the steps.
Changing a Flat Tire
If a tire goes at, avoid further tire and wheel damage by
driving slowly to a level place. Turn on the hazard
warning ashers. SeeHazard Warning Flashers on
page 3-6.
{CAUTION:
Changing a tire can be dangerous. The vehicle
can slip off the jack and roll over or fall on you or
other people. You and they could be badly injured
or even killed. Find a level place to change your
tire. To help prevent the vehicle from moving:
1. Set the parking brake rmly.
2. Put the shift lever in P (Park).

Reverse the instructions for removing the spare tire and
tools to store the compact spare tire.
Compact Spare Tire
If your vehicle is equipped with a compact spare tire it
was fully inated when the vehicle was new, it can
lose air after a time. Check the ination pressure
regularly. It should be 60 psi (420 kPa).
After installing the compact spare on the vehicle, stop as
soon as possible and make sure the spare tire is correctly
inated. The compact spare is made to perform well at
speeds up to 65 mph (105 km/h) for distances up to
3,000 miles (5 000 km), so you can nish your trip and
have the full-size tire repaired or replaced at your
convenience. Of course, it is best to replace the spare
with a full-size tire as soon as possible. The spare tire will
last longer and be in good shape in case it is needed
again.
Notice:When the compact spare is installed, do not
take the vehicle through an automatic car wash with
guide rails. The compact spare can get caught on the
rails which can damage the tire, wheel and other
parts of the vehicle.
Do not use the compact spare on other vehicles.
And do not mix the compact spare tire or wheel with
other wheels or tires. They will not t. Keep the
spare tire and its wheel together.
Notice:Tire chains will not t the compact spare.
Using them can damage the vehicle and can damage
the chains too. Do not use tire chains on the
compact spare.

The proper replacement parts, uids, and lubricants to
use are listed inRecommended Fluids and Lubricants
on page 6-14andMaintenance Replacement Parts
on page 6-16. When the vehicle is serviced, make sure
these are used. All parts should be replaced and all
necessary repairs done before you or anyone else
drives the vehicle. We recommend the use of genuine
parts from your dealer/retailer.
Scheduled Maintenance
To maintain the ride, handling, and performance
of this vehicle, it is important that the rst tire rotation
service be performed when the vehicle has 5,000
to 8,000 miles (8 000 to 13 000 km). Check tires for
ination pressures and wear. SeeTires on page 5-61.
Rotate tires. SeeTire Inspection and Rotation on
page 5-76and “Tire Wear Inspection” inAt Least
Once a Month on page 6-11.When the Change Engine Oil Soon message displays in
the Driver Information Center (DIC), service is required
for the vehicle. Have the vehicle serviced as soon
as possible within the next 600 miles (1 000 km).
It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions,
the engine oil life system may not indicate that
vehicle service is necessary for over a year. However,
the engine oil and lter must be changed at least once
a year and at this time the system must be reset.
Your dealer/retailer has trained service technicians
who will perform this work using genuine parts and
reset the system.
If the engine oil life system is ever reset accidentally,
service the vehicle within 3,000 miles (5 000 km)
since the last service. Remember to reset the oil life
system whenever the oil is changed. SeeEngine Oil Life

When the Change Engine Oil Soon message appears,
the following services, checks, and inspections are
required:

At Each Fuel Fill
It is important to perform these underhood checks at
each fuel fill.
Engine Oil Level Check
Notice:It is important to check the engine oil
regularly and keep it at the proper level. Failure to
keep the engine oil at the proper level can cause
damage to the engine not covered by the vehicle
warranty.
Check the engine oil level and add the proper oil if
necessary. SeeEngine Oil on page 5-18.
Coolant Level Check
Check the engine coolant level and, on CTS-V models,
check the intercooler coolant level. Add DEX-COOL®
coolant mixture if necessary. SeeEngine Coolant
on page 5-32.
Windshield Washer Fluid Level Check
Check the windshield washer uid level in the windshield
washer uid reservoir and add the proper uid if
necessary.
At Least Once a Month
Tire Inspection and Ination Check
Inspect the vehicle’s tires for wear and make
sure they are inated to the correct pressures.

Ignition Transmission Lock Check
While parked, and with the parking brake set, try to turn
the ignition to LOCK/OFF in each shift lever position.
For automatic transmission vehicles, the ignition
should turn to LOCK/OFF only when the shift
lever is in P (Park).
With the key access ignition system, the ignition
key should come out only in LOCK/OFF. See
Ignition Positions (Key Access) on page 2-31or
Ignition Positions (Keyless Access) on page 2-32.
Contact your dealer/retailer if service is required.
Parking Brake and Automatic
Transmission P (Park) Mechanism
Check
{CAUTION:
When you are doing this check, the vehicle could
begin to move. You or others could be injured and
property could be damaged. Make sure there is
room in front of the vehicle in case it begins to roll.
Be ready to apply the regular brake at once should
the vehicle begin to move.Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing downhill.
Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set the parking
brake.
To check the parking brake’s holding ability: With the
engine running and transmission in N (Neutral),
slowly remove foot pressure from the regular brake
pedal. Do this until the vehicle is held by the parking
brake only.
To check the P (Park) mechanism’s holding ability:
With the engine running, shift to P (Park). Then
release the parking brake followed by the regular
brake.
Contact your dealer/retailer if service is required.
Underbody Flushing Service
At least every spring, use plain water to ush any
corrosive materials from the underbody. Take care to
clean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debris
can collect.
Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit
If the vehicle has a Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit,
check the sealant expiration date printed on the
instruction label of the kit at least once a year.
See your dealer/retailer for a replacement canister.

Radio Frequency
Identication (RFID)
RFID technology is used in some vehicles for functions
such as tire pressure monitoring and ignition system
security, as well as in connection with conveniences
such as key fobs for remote door locking/unlocking and
starting, and in-vehicle transmitters for garage door
openers. RFID technology in GM vehicles does not use
or record personal information or link with any other
GM system containing personal information.
