Refer to=> page 205, "Proper adjustment of head restraints" for
guidelines on how to adjust the height of the front head restraints
to suit the occupant's body size.
& WARNING
• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of serious or fatal neck
injury dramatically.
• Read and heed all WARNINGS
:::> page 205.
[ i ] Tips
• Correctly adjusted head restraints and safety belts are an
extremely effective combination of safety features.
• Power adjustable head restraints can only be removed by an
authorized repair facility.
• When you adjust the seat toward the front or upward, the head
restraints are automatically lowered to keep them clear of the roof
liner . Be aware that after you move the seat back again toward the
rear or lower it again, the head restraints will not automatically
resume their original position and have to be readjusted. •

when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving
around a corner.
• When you are driving make sure that anything you may have
placed in the center console or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells. In case of sudden braking you would not be
able to brake or accelerate.
• Any articles of clothing that you have hung up must not inter
fere with the driver's view. The coat hooks are designed only for lightweight clothing . Never hang any clothing with hard, pointed
or heavy objects in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passengers inside the vehicle. •

& WARNING
Damage to the front passenger seat can prevent the front airbag
from working properly .
• Improper repair or disassembly of the front passenger and
driver seat will prevent the Advanced Airbag System from func
tioning properly.
• Repairs to the front passenger seat must be performed by qual
ified and properly trained workshop personnel .
• Never remove the front passenger or driver seat from the
vehicle.
• Never remove the upholstery from the front passenger seat.
• Never disassemble or remove parts from the seat or disconnect
wires from it .
• Never carry sharp objects in your pockets or place them on the
seat .
If the weight-sensing mat in the passenger seat is punctured
it cannot work properly.
• Never carry things on your lap or carry objects on the
passenger seat. Such items can increase the weight registered by
the weight-sensing mat and send the wrong information to the
airbag control unit .
• Never store items under the front passenger seat . Parts of the
Advanced Airbag Sy stem under the passenger seat could be
damaged , preventing them and the airbag system from working
properly.
• Never place seat covers or replacement upholstery that have
not been specifically approved by Audi on the front seats.
• Seat covers can prevent the Advanced Airbag System from
recognizing child restraints or occupants on the front pa ssenger
seat and prevent the side airbag in the seat backrest from
deploying properly .
& WARNING (continued)
• Never use cushions, pillows, blankets or similar items on the
front passenger seat. The additional padding will prevent the
weight-sensing mat in the seat from accurately registering the
child restraint or person on the seat and prevent the Advanced
Airbag System from functioning properly .
• If you must use a child restraint on the front passenger seat
and the child restraint manufacturer's instructions require the use
of a towel , foam cushion or something el se to properly position
the child restraint , make certain that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light comes on and stays on whenever the child restraint is
i nstalled on the front passenger seat .
• If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay
on , immediately install child restraint in a rear seating position
and have the airbag system inspected by your Audi dealer. •
How the Advanced Airbag System
components work together
The front Advanced Airbag System and the side airbags supp lement
the protection offered by the front three -point safety be lts with
pretensioners and load limiters and t he adjustab le head restraints
to help reduce the risk of injury in a w ide range of accident and
crash si tuat ions. Be sure to read t he im po rta nt i nformation ab out
safety and heed the WARN INGS in this chapter.
Depl oyment of the Adva nc ed A irbag Syst em and the acti vatio n of
the safety belt pretensioners depend on the deceleration measured

You may find it easier to insta ll child restraints equipped with hooks
attached to straps without the guidance fixtures in place . If this is
the case, remove the guidance fixtures by pu lling them off the
anchorages. However, the guidance fixtures can he lp you to locate
the LATCH anchorages.

& WARN ING (continued )
• Never use the LATCH or tether anchor ages to attach safety

• Child restra int tether attachments and lower attachment s are
only de signed to se cure a child re straint that ha s been equipped

0 Note
• Remove the guidance fixtures before fo lding the rear seatback to
prevent damaging the seat cushion.
• If you leave the guidance fixtures installed for several days, they
cou ld leave a mark on the upholstery on the seat cushion and back
rest in the area that the guidance fixtures were installed. The uphol

fixtures . This applies especial ly to leather seats .
[ i ] Tip s
• Always remove the guidance fixtures when not in use.
• Please keep the guidance fixtures in a safe place with the vehicle
when not in use. •
