v iew camera. The two different parking modes are denotes as
"parking mode 1" ~ page 175 a nd "parking mode 2" ~ page 177.

The red line in the MMI Display=> fig. 184 indicates the distance you
should ma intain fr om an obs tacle, when park ing. If an ob stacle is
located at road level, you can approach the obstacle unti l the red
line touches the obstacle
(1.3 ft, or 40 cm, dis tance) . On the othe r
hand , if an obs tacle is not located at road level (the bumper o f a
vehic le, for example), you should
not approach this obstac le unti l
the red lin e touches the obstac le.
F or instance , if you back up toward another vehic le, it wil l appear as
t ho ugh the guide hel p lin es a nd su rfaces are being pushed over t he
vehic le behind you=> fig. 184 . In this example, it can be recognized
in the MMI Disp lay that the red lin e exactly touches the bumper of
the vehicle behind you . Indeed, however, the red line@=> fig. 185
does not touch the bumper, but has rather been pushed
underneath

The menu for adjusting signal sounds can also be called
up via the control button with the "settings" function.

Select Rear volume if you want to change the volume of
the chimes from the rear signal generator.

frequency of the chimes from the rear signal generator.

Press the [RETURN] button . T he rear-v iew camera picture
appears in the MMI Display again.
When adjusting the volume and frequency , the new setting will
sound for about 2 seconds from each audible signal generator. The
volume and frequency settings are automatically stored and
assigned to the master key with remote control.
& WARNING
Always make sure that the volume and frequency of the chimes is
adjusted so that you can easily hear the acoustic distance signal
even if the radio is playing, the air-conditioner blower is on High or
there is a high level of outside noise. Check the settings whenever
someone else has driven the vehicle before you. •

Acoustic parking system error message
If a warning tone is audible for about five seconds when you turn on
the ignition, there is a malfunction in the system. Have the problem
corrected by your authorized Audi dealer.
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and free from ice so that
the acoustic park assist system can function properly.•

This automatic adjustment process will cause a slight vibration of
the brake pedal and some noises to alert you that vehicle speed
must be adapted to existing road and traffic conditions .
& WARNING
Although the ABS is very effective, always remember that braking
capability is limited by tire traction. Always adjust your driving
speed according to the road and traffic conditions. Do not let the
extra safety afforded by the ABS tempt you into taking extra risks.
The ABS cannot overcome the laws of physics .

• If ABS is not functioning properly, a warning light will come on .

• If a fau lt occurs in the ABS, the EDL is also not functioning. This
is indicated by the ABS warning light.
Brake assistant
The brake assistant is designed to achieve the optimum
braking effect.
The brake assistant helps to increase the effective braking power
and thus to achieve a shorter stopping distance . If the driver
presses the brake pedal very quick ly, the brake assistant automati­
cally boosts the braking force to the maximum level, up to the point
where the anti-lock brake function (ABS) intervenes to stop the
wheels from locking . You should then keep the brake pedal pressed
until the vehicle has braked to the required speed. The brake assis­
tant switches itself off as soon as you release the brake pedal.
T he brake assistant wil l not be operative if there is a malfunction in
the ABS .

Please remember that the
accident risk always increases if you
drive too fast , especially in corners or on a slippery road, or if you
follow the vehicle ahead of you too closely. Increased risk of an
accident cannot be compensated for even by the brake assistant ,
so always maintain a safe speed. •
Servotronic® -advanced power
steering system
The power steering systems uses the power of the
running engine to allow precise steering with little effort.
The advanced Servotronic ® power steering system senses the road
speed and electronically adjusts power assistance to provide
comfortab le and safe steering response exactly matched to the
vehicle speed.
Power steering will not work if the engine is off. As a result, the
steering wheel will be hard to turn.
The power steering fluid level is checked during the scheduled
maintenance services .
0 Note
If there is an electronic ma lfunction, servotronic wi ll still function
like a conventional power steering system, providing a constant
steering support force that is no longer proportionate to the vehicle
speed . This is most noticeable when turning the steering whee l at
low speeds (for examp le when parking), -more effort will be
required than usual.
• Be aware of the different than usual steering response and
adjust your steering force accordingly.
• Have the problem checked and set right by an Aud i dealer as
soon as possible. ._
