Closing th e window s
- Pull the switch up to the
first stop and hold it there until
the window has risen to the desired position.
- Pull the switch quickly to the
second pos iti on: the
window will automatically close all the way~

depressed pos ition to a ctiv ate the
rear windows -the l ight in the sw itch wi ll go out.
- Briefly press t he switch to
de activat e the rear windows -
the switch will return to the sa fety position and the light
w ill illuminate.
The safety switch©=> page 46, fig. 37 in the armrest on the driver's
door turns off the rear power windows. Only when the safety switch
is depressed can the rear windows be opened or closed. The symbol
in the safety switch il lum inates when the power windows in the rear
doors are switched off (button NOT depressed). This feature has
been provided for the safety of small children riding in the rear of
the vehicle .
[ i J Tip s
The windows can still be opened and closed for about ten minutes
after the ignition has been turned off. The power windows are not
shut off until one of the front doors is opened. •

You can close or open the windows from outside when
you lock or unlock your c ar with the key.

Keep the key in the lock on the driver 's door @ unt il all
windows and the panorama sliding/tilt roof* have
reached the desired position.
Con venience close feature
- Hold the key in t he lock of the driver's door in t he closed
position unti l a ll windows and the panorama s lid ing/tilt
roof* are closed

The automatic close function will cease im me diat ely if the key is
re leased. For safe ty reasons it is not possible to open and c lose the
sunroof with the remote -control key.

Opening and closing
Reactivating the system after battery
disconnection
Reactivating the convenience close /open fea ture
If the vehicle battery is disconnected and then reco nnected,
the a utomatic clos ing and opening function will not work
until it is reactivated. To reactivate this feature, perform the
following steps :
Reactivating close/open feature
-Pull and hold the power window switch until the window
i s completely closed.
- Release the switch.
- Pull the switch again for one second. The automatic
closing/opening is now reactivated. •
Panoramic sliding sunroof

Description
The panoramic sliding sun roof is operated with the toggle switch
~ fi g. 39 w hen th e i gn ition in on .
The panoramic sliding sunroof can still be op ened or closed for
a bout 1 O minu tes af ter the ignition has been sw itched off. However ,
as soon as the driver's or passenger 's doo r is opened, the switch fo r
the roof is inoperative. •

The panoram ic sliding sunroof is opened in two stages.
F irst , the roof lifts up and then it can be opened.
Lifting
- Tap the switch (D:::;, fig. 39 briefly, and the roof lifts auto ­
matically (pop-up pos it ion).
Opening automatically (independent operation)
-Tap the switch 0:::;, fig. 39 briefly, and the roof moves to
the
lift position.
- Tap the switch 0 briefly a second time , and the roof
moves to the
low wind noise comfort position .
-Press the switch 0 unt il the roof is fully open. In this
position increased wind noise may occur .
Opening manually (manual operation)
-Press the switch 0:::;, fig. 39, starting from the "lift pos i-
tion " unt il the roof has reached the desired position. .._

Closing complete ly
- Press the sw itch 0 ~ p age 48, fig . 39 until the roof is
completely closed

Closing partially
- Press the sw itch 0 ~ page 48, fig. 39 until the roof has
reac hed the des ired position~ &. If the roof is almost
closed and you interrupt the operation, the roof opens
automatically to a min imum setting; this is the smallest
possible opening that can be set.
If you park your vehicle in the sun, we recommend that you c lose the
sun b lind . You should especially make certain that the panoramic
s liding sunroof is c losed when the sun blind is closed when parked
or if there is a sudden rain shower.
The sun blind has two positions : completely open or completely
closed . The sun blind is manually operated.

[ i ) Tips
• When you park your vehicle, we genera lly recommend closing
the panoramic sliding sunroof and the sun blind.
• When the vehicle is parked, a wet roof shou ld be dried light ly
with a soft cloth
before it is op ened so that water does not drip into
the interior .
• In an emergency , the panoramic sliding sunroof can be closed
manually ~

The open roof can also be closed from the outside.

Uncovering the light unit
In an emergency, the panoramic sliding sunroof can be
closed manually. Removal of the light unit requires some
dexterity.

Please switch off all lamps before removing the light unit
=>& .The glass and the switch cover simply click into place
for insta llation. Be sure they are positioned correctly for
installa tion.
Removing the glass
Take the screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit.
- Use the flat end of the reversible screwdriver blade.
- Insert the screwdriver carefully between the light unit
and the glass into the visible marks (arrows) => page
49,
fig . 40.
- Pry the glass out carefully.
Removing the switch cover
Push the flat blade of the screwdriver several times in
succession between the light unit and the switch cover at
different places on the left and right and carefully lift the
switch cover as you do this::::> fig. 41. On vehicles with
additional equipment you can allow the cover to hang by
the wire, otherwise place the loose cover to one side.
& WARNING
Before working on the front light unit switch the integral lamps off
- otherwise you risk being burned . •

Removing the light unit
Removing the light unit requires some dexterity.

Installation of the light unit follows the steps used in
removal, but in reverse order.
- Insta ll the Phillips head blade in the screwdriver.

- Turn the two screws in the light unit in a counter -clock­
wise direction to remove=>
page 50, fig. 42.
- Pull the light unit out of the headl iner by the front end
(arrow) =>
page 50, fig. 43.
- Allow the light unit to hang by the wire. •

You can close the panoramic s liding sunroof using the hand
c rank located o n the inside of the fuse box cover.
- Install the flat blade in the screwdriver .

-Use the screwdriver to remove the fuse box cover
=> fig. 44.
- Remove the crank from the fuse box cover.
- Remove the blade from the screwdriver handle.
- Install the end of the screwdriver handle onto the short
side of the crank to help you turn it=> fig. 44
G).
- Push the long end of the crank@=> fig. 45 all the way
into the hexagonal hole@.
- Hold the crank down and turn it with the screwdriver handle to close the roof.
- Install the light unit first and then the glass. For installa ­
tion, reverse the removal sequence.
- Return the crank to its location in the fuse box cover
=> fig. 44 and install the cover .
- Have the problem corrected.
[ i] Tips
• To turn the crank for em ergency closing more easily , you should
use the screwdriver handle as an aid. First , remove the screw driver
from th e handl e, th en push the handle onto the crank .
• The crank should be turned slowly; turning it quickly only
incr eas es th e ef fort r equired .•

High temperatures, as from exposure to intense sunlight, intens ify
the corrosive effect particularly when humidity is high as well.
Under ce rtain circumstances ,
weekly washing may be necessary .
Under other conditions, a monthly washing and waxing may be
adequate.
After the winter, the
underside of the vehicle should be thoroughly
washed, preferably in a professional car wash.

Automatic car wash
The vehicle can be washed in almost any modern auto­
matic car wash.
The vehicle paint is so durable that the vehicle can normally be
washed without problems in an automatic car wash . However , the
effect on the paint depends to a large extent on the design of the
facility, the filtering of the wash water, the type of wash and care
material, etc. If the paint has a dull appearance after going through
the car wash or is scratched, bring this to the attention of the oper­
ator immediately . If necessary, use a different car wash .
Before going through a car wash, be sure to take the usual precau ­
tions such as closing the windows and panoramic sliding sunroof *.
Remove antenna if applicable.
If you have installed additional accessories on the vehicle -such as
spoilers, roof rack , etc. -it is best to ask the car wash operator if
these should be removed .

Washing the vehicle by hand
A lot of water is needed when washing a vehicle by hand.
-Before you start washing, make sure you have read and
understood the WARNINGS=:>
& in "General informa ­
tion" on
page 206 .
-First soak all dried dirt until it is soft, then rinse it off.
- As you clean your vehicle, start with the roof and work
your way down to the bottom , using a sponge, a sponge
glove or a clean brush.
- Rinse the sponge or the sponge glove often, flushing it
clean each time.
- Use special car shampoo only for very persistent dirt.
- Rinse the car thoroughly with water.
- Use a chamois leather to gently wipe the exterior dry.
Use a separate sponge for cleaning the wheels, door sills and other
regions exposed to road dirt. In this way , you will not scratch the
paint with coarse particles imbedded in the sponge the next time
you wash the car.

• Do not clean the underside of the chassis, fenders, wheel
covers, or other hard to reach parts without protecting your hands
and arms. You may cut yourself on sharp-edged metal parts . .,

The various electrical circuits are protected by fuses. The fuses are
clustered in a centralized unit. The unit is located behind the face
panel at the end of the instrument panel. The crank for operating
the sunroof in case of a power failure is a lso stored behind the face
panel
~ page 49.
Two spare fuses and a sticker identifying the fuses are located on
the inside of the fuse box cover.
You are well advised to keep a supply of spare fuses in your vehicle .
Fuses with the proper ampere ratings are available at your autho ­
rized Audi dealer.
& WARNING
Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating.
• A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electrical
part and cause a fire .
0 Note
• On no accoun t should fuses be repaired (e.g . patched up with tin
foil or wire) as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the elec­
trical circuit or cause fire.
• If a fuse blows repeatedly, do not keep replacing it. Instead, have
the cause for the repeated short circuit or overload tracked and
fixed. •

Note that the following table is accurate at the time of going to
press and is subject to change. In the event of discrepancies , the
label on the inside of the cover always takes precedence .
The power seats are protected by circuit breakers, which automati­
cally reset after a few seconds after the overload has been reme -
died. .._
