concentrations of pollutants, the air conditioning system is
switched automatically to recirculation mode and the supply of
outside air is blocked. As soon as the concentration of pollutants in
the outside air drops , fresh air is supplied to the vehicle interior
again.
In the event that the windows fog up during automatic air recircula­
tion, you must press the® button immediately.
Under certain operating conditions, automatic air recirculation is
switched off automatically . With outside temperatures below about
+10 °C, automatic air recirculation is limited to 30 seconds . With
outside temperatures below about -1 °C and in the ECON mode,
automatic air recirculation is limited to 15 seconds. •
Synchronization
One climate control setting for the driver and front
passenger seats.
With synchronization active, the driver's settings are adopted for
the passenger or vice versa. All the other settings that were made are transferred to the other seat. This includes all the clima te control
settings, except for the Seat heating *.
If a different setting is selected at a "synchronized seat", synchroni­
z ation is cancelled. •
Applies to vehicles: with four-zone automatic comfort ai r cond itioning

& WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment and improper seating
position can cause serious personal injury.
• Adjust the steering wheel column only when the vehicle is not
moving to prevent loss of vehicle control .
• Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so that there is a
minimum of 10 inches (25 cm ) between your chest and the
steering wheel
~ page 222, fig . 235 . If you cannot maintain this
minimum distance , the airbag system cannot protect you prop ­
erly .
• If physical limitations prevent you from sitting 1 O inches (25
cml or more from the steering wheel , check with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available.
• If the steering wheel is aligned with your face, the supple­
mental driver's airbag cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the steering wheel is aligned with
your chest .
• Always hold the steering wheel with your hands at the 9 o'clock
and 3 o'clock positions to reduce the risk of personal injury if the
driver's airbag deploys .
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position or with
your hands inside the steering wheel rim or on the steer ing wheel
hub . Holding the steering wheel the wrong way can cause serious
injuries to the hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys. •

[SET I button, the two closest light emitting diodes will
come on

T he system allows on ly speeds to be set between 20 to 95 mph (30
to 150 km/h) to be set . This speed range is faintly illuminated in the
speedometer (LED l ights).

and that no moving vehic le has been detected with in range of the
radar sensor up ahead in your lane of trave l. The set speed is main ­

within the system's capabilities.

light

tion can lead to a crash and serious person al injury .
• Never allow t he clo sing speed between you and other vehi cle s
to be so high that the Adapt ive Cruise Control may not be able to

If clos ing speed is too h igh , you must
apply the brakes your self to reduce the risk of a rear-end crash .

Steering wheel with tiptronic ®
The shift buttons on the steering wheel allow the driver to
shift gears manually.

- To downshift, touch the button on the left Q.
- To upshift , touch the button on the right G) .
The shift buttons are activated when the selector lever is in D, Sor
in the manual shift program (tip tronic) .
Of course, you can continue to use the manual shift program with
the selector lever on the center console .•
Automatic transmission malfunction ~
In the event of a system malfunction, the automatic transmission
switches to emergency operation mode.
Gearbox malfunction: You can continue driving
You can continue to drive the vehicle. See an authorized Audi dealer or other qualified workshop at the next opportunity.
Gearbox malfunction: You can continue driving but functions
are restricted

There is a serious system malfunction:
• The program shifts only into certain gears.
• The engine may stall.
• It is not possible to restart the engine if it has been switched off .
• Continuing to drive could result in subsequent damage .

If the transmission switches to fail -safe mode , you should take the
vehicle to an authorized Audi dealership as soon as possible to have
the condition corrected .•
Emergency release for selector lever
If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selector lever can
be released in an emergency.

parking assist at any
time via the disp layed control button function .
The presettings in the MMI are retained .

If you have set the Graphi c function, the visual display will be
displayed in the MMI display by defau lt upon activation of the
parking assis t system => fig . 223 .
"Rear Vi evv " s ett ing
If you have set the R ear View function , the picture from the rear­
v iew camera =>
page 196, fig. 213 will be displayed when driving
backward and forward whenever the parking assist system is acti­
vated.

If you have set the automat ic function, the picture fro m the rear­
view camera will automatically be displayed when reverse gear is engaged and the visual disp lay will be displayed on the MM I display

Important things to do before driv ing
Safety is everybody's job! Vehicle and occupant safety
always depends on the informed and careful driver.
For your safety and the safety of your passengers, before
driving always:
- Make sure that al l lights and signals are operat ing
correctly.
- Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
- Make sure that all windows are clean and afford good
visibility to the outside.
- Secure all luggage and other items carefully :::>

Instruct passengers to adjust the head restraints

What impa
irs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of the
vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's ability to concen­
trate on the road without being distracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and all
of its occupants. If your ability to drive is impaired, safety
risks for everybody in the vehicle increase and you also
become a hazard to everyone else on the road :::>& .There ­
fore:
- Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers or by
using a cellula r telephone .
NEVER drive when your driving ability is impaired (by
medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road and speed limits
and plain common sense .
- ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and weather
conditions.
- Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive for more
than two hours at a stretch.
- Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pressure or when
you are stressed .

to help reduce the risk of personal injury if the driver's airbag
inflates.
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position or with
your hands at other positions inside the steering wheel rim or on
the steering wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel the wrong way
can cause serious injuries to the hands, arms and head if the
driver's airbag deploys .
• Pointing the steering wheel toward your face decreases the
ability of the supplemental driver's airbag to protect you in a colli­
sion.
• Always sit in an upright position and never lean against or
place any part of your body too close to the area where the airbags
are located .
• Before driving, always adjust the front seats and head
restraints properly and make sure that all passengers are properly
restrained.
• Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is moving. Your seat
may move unexpectedly and you could lose control of the vehicle.
• Never drive with the backrest reclined or tilted far back! The
farther the backrests are tilted back, the greater the risk of injury
due to incorrect positioning of the safety belt and improper
seating position.
• Children must always ride in child safety seats
=> page 263.

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position is important
for safe, relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of injury in the
event of an accident, we recommend that you adjust the
seat for the front passenger to the following pos ition:
- Move the front passenger seat back as far as possible.
There must be a minimum of 10 inches (25 cm) between
the breastbone and the instrument panel =>
&.
- Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in an upright
position and your back comes in full contact with it
whenever the vehicle is moving.
- Adjust the head restraint so that the upper edge is as
even with the top of your head as possible but not lower
than eye level and so that it is as close to the back of your
head as possible =>
page 225.
-Keep both feet flat on the floor in front of the front
passenger seat.
- Fasten and wear safety belts correctly=:>
page 235.

Front seat passengers who are unbelted, out of position or too
close to the airbag can be seriously injured or killed by the airbag

Proper adjustment of head restraints
Correctly adjusted head restraints are an important part
of your vehicle's occupant restraint system and can help
to reduce the risk of injuries in accident situations.

The head restraints must be correctly adjusted to achieve
the best protection.
-Adjust the head restraint so that the upper edge of the
restraint is level with the top of your head, but no lower
than eye level and so it is as close to the back of your
head as possible ~

Driving without head restraints or with improperly adjusted head
restraints increases the risk of serious injuries in a collision . To
help reduce the risk of injury :
• Always drive with the head restraints in place and properly
adjusted.
• Every person in the vehicle must have a properly adjusted head
restraint.

Always make sure each person in the vehicle properly adjusts
their head restraint. Each head restraint must be adjusted
according to occupants' size so that the upper edge is as even
with the top of the person's head, but no lower than eye level and
so it is as close to the back of to the head as possible .
• Never attempt to adjust head restraint while driving. If you
have driven off and must adjust the driver headrest for any reason,
first stop the vehicle safely before attempting to adjust the head
restraint.
• Children must always be properly restrained in a child restraint
that is appropriate for their age and size

Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only reduce the risk of
injury if vehicle occupants ore properly seated.
Improper seating positions can cause serious injury or
death . Safety belts can only work when they are properly
positioned on the body. Improper seating positions reduce
the effectiveness of safety belts and will even increase the
risk of injury and death by moving the safety belt to critical
areas of the body. Improper seating positions also increase
the risk of serious injury and death when an airbag deploys
and strikes an occupant who is not in the proper seating
position. A driver is responsible for the safety of all vehicle
occupants and especially for children. Therefore:
- Never allow anyone to assume an incorrect seating posi­
tion when the vehicle is being used~& .
