Air bags Disarming
The passenger's front air bag alone
can be disarmed:
- With the ignition switched off ,
insert the key into the passenger air
bag disarming switch,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
- then remove the key keeping the s l o t i n t h i s p o s i t i o n .
Front air bags
The front air bags are incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel for the
driver and in the fascia for the front
p a s s e n g e r .

Reactivation
In the
"OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the air bag slot to the "ON"
position to re-activate the air bag
and thus ensure the safety of your
p a s s e n g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t . To ensure the safety of your
child, it is essential to disarm the
passenger air bag when you install
a rear-facing child seat on the front
p a s s e n g e r s e a t . O t h e r w i s e , t h e c h i l d
would risk being killed or seriously
i n j u r e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
The air bag warning light on the
instrument panel is lit throughout
t h e p e r i o d o f d i s a r m i n g .
If the two air bag warning lights
are lit continuously, do not install
a r e a r - f a c i n g c h i l d s e a t . C o n s u l t a

Activation
They are deployed simultaneously,
unless the passenger's front air bag
has been disarmed, in the event of a
serious front impact applied to all or
part of the front impact zone
A in the
longitudinal centreline of the vehicle
on a horizontal plane directed from the
f r o n t t o w a r d s t h e r e a r o f t h e v e h i c l e .
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front occupant of the vehicle and
the fascia to cushion his forward
m o v e m e n t . If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
display, consult a CITROËN
dealer to have the system
c h e c k e d .

The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
(with the exception of the centre
seats of rows 2 and 3) in the event
of a serious collision; they work in
conjunction with the force limiting seat
b e l t s .
In the event of a serious collision, the
electronic detectors record and analyse
the front and side impacts suffered in
the impact detection zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the a i r b a g s i n fl a t e i n s t a n t l y a n d p r o t e c t
t h e o c c u p a n t s o f t h e v e h i c l e . Immediately after the impact, the air
b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y , s o t h a t t h e y d o n o t
hinder the visibility of the occupants
nor their possible exit from the vehicle:
- in the event of a minor or rear
impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the air bags will not
be deployed; the seat belt alone
i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o v i d e m a x i m u m
p r o t e c t i o n i n t h e s e s i t u a t i o n s .
The seriousness of the collision
depends on the nature of the obstacle
and the speed of the vehicle at the
m o m e n t o f i m p a c t . Air bags only operate when the
ignition is switched on.
T h i s e q u i p m e n t o n l y o p e r a t e s o n c e .
If a second impact occurs (during the
same or a subsequent accident), the
a i r b a g w i l l n o t o p e r a t e .
The triggering of an air bag or air bags
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
c a r t r i d g e i n c o r p o r a t e d i n t h e s y s t e m .
This smoke is not harmful, but
sensitive individuals may experience
s o m e i r r i t a t i o n .
The noise of the detonation may result
in a slight loss of hearing for a short
t i m e .
AIR BAGS
It is imperative that the passenger
air bag is disarmed if a child seat
i s i n s t a l l e d f a c i n g r e a r w a r d s . R e f e r
to the "Children on board" section of
c h a p t e r 4 .
