SAFETY For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the

After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e C I T R O Ë N
network.

CHANGING A WHEEL
Procedure for changing a faulty wheel
for the spare wheel using the tools pro-
vided with the vehicle.
Access to the tools
The tools are installed in the boot under
t h e fl o o r .
T o g a i n a c c e s s t o t h e m :
open the boot,
r a i s e t h e fl o o r ,
remove the polystyrene storage box,
unclip and remove the box containing
the tools. Wheel with trim
When removing the wheel , fi r s t d e t a c h t h e t r i m u s i n g t h e w h e e l b r a c e 1
pulling at the valve passage hole.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g t h e w h e e l , r e fi t t h e t r i m s t a r t i n g b y p l a c i n g i t s c u t - o u t a t t h e
valve and press around its edge with the palm of your hand.
List of tools
A l l o f t h e s e t o o l s a r e s p e c i fi c t o y o u r
vehicle. Do not use them for other
purposes.
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim a n d r e m o v a l o f t h e w h e e l fi x i n g
bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. "Bolt cover" tool.
Permits removal of the bolt pro- t e c t o r s ( c o v e r s ) o n a l l o y w h e e l s .
4. Socket for the security wheel
b o l t s ( l o c a t e d i n t h e g l o v e b o x ) .
Permits adaptation of the wheel- brace to the special "security"
wheel bolts.

Access to the spare wheel
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
According to country, the spare wheel may
be steel or of the "space saver" type.
To gain access to it, refer to the paragraph
"Access to the tools" on the previous
page. Fitting the steel or "space-
saver" type spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l l o y
wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t -
ting, that the washers do not
come into contact with the steel
or "space-saver" type spare
wheel. The wheel is secured by
the conical contact of each bolt. Taking out the wheel
Unscrew the yellow central bolt.
Raise the spare wheel towards you
from the rear.
Take the wheel out of the boot.
Putting the wheel back in place
Put the wheel back in its housing.
Unscrew the yellow central bolt by a
few turns then put it in place in the
centre of the wheel.
Tighten fully until the central bolt
clicks to retain the wheel correctly.
Put the box back in place in the centre
of the wheel and clip it.
Put the polystyrene storage box
back in place.

On vehicles equipped with a
"space-saver" type spare wheel,
the punctured wheel cannot be
stowed in place of the "space-
saver" wheel.

Removing the wheel
Parking the vehicle
Immobilise the vehicle where it
d o e s n o t b l o c k t r a f fi c : t h e g r o u n d
must be level, stable and not
slippery.
Apply the parking brake, switch
o f f t h e i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t
gear * to lock the wheels.
If necessary, place a chock under
the wheel diagonally opposite the
wheel to be changed.
It is imperative that you ensure
that the occupants get out of the
vehicle and wait where they are
safe.
Never go underneath a vehicle
raised using a jack; use an axle
stand. List of operations
Remove the chromed bolt cover from
each of the bolts using the tool 3 .
Fit the security bolt socket 4 on the
wheelbrace 1 to slacken the security
bolt.
Slacken the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
Place the jack 2 in contact with one
of the two front A or rear B locations
provided on the underbody, which-
ever is closest to the wheel to be
changed.
Extend the jack 2 until its base plate
is in contact with the ground. Ensure
that the centreline of the jack base
plate is directly below the location A
or B used.
Raise the vehicle until there is suf-
fi c i e n t s p a c e b e t w e e n t h e w h e e l a n d
the ground to admit the spare (not
p u n c t u r e d ) w h e e l e a s i l y .
Remove the bolts and store them in
a clean place.
Remove the wheel.

After changing a wheel
To store the punctured wheel in
t h e b o o t c o r r e c t l y , fi r s t r e m o v e
the central cover.
When using the "space-saver"
type temporary use spare wheel,
d o n o t e x c e e d 5 0 m p h ( 8 0 k m / h ) .
Have the tightening of the bolts
and the pressure of the spare
wheel checked by a CITROËN
dealer without delay.
Have the punctured wheel re-
paired and replace it on the ve-
hicle as soon as possible.
Do not drive with more than one
t e m p o r a r y u s e s p a r e w h e e l fi t t e d
to the vehicle at one time.
Fitting the wheel
List of operations
Put the wheel in place on the hub.
Screw in the bolts by hand.
Pre-tighten the security bolt using
the wheelbrace 1 fi t t e d w i t h t h e s e -
curity bolt socket 4 .
Pre-tighten the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
Lower the vehicle fully.
Fold the jack 2 and detach it.
Tighten the security bolt using the
wheelbrace 1 fi t t e d w i t h t h e s e c u r i t y
bolt socket 4 .
Tighten the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
R e fi t t h e c h r o m e d b o l t c o v e r s o n
each of the bolts.
Store the tools in the box.

BATTERY
Procedure for charging your battery
w h e n i t i s fl a t o r f o r s t a r t i n g t h e e n g i n e
using another battery.
The battery is located under the bonnet.
T o g a i n a c c e s s t o i t :
open the bonnet using the interior
lever, then the exterior lever,
secure the bonnet strut,
remove the plastic cover by pulling
on its grip for access to the two ter-
minals,
unclip the fuse box to remove the
battery, if necessary.
Access to the battery
Starting using another battery
Connect the red cable to the posi-
t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A ,
t h e n t o t h e p o s i t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f
the slave battery B .
Connect one end of the green or
black cable to the negative terminal
( - ) o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y B .
Connect the other end of the green
or black cable to the negative termi-
n a l ( - ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A .
Start the slave vehicle.
Operate the starter of the broken
down vehicle and let the engine
run.
Wait until the engine returns to idle
and disconnect the cables.
