Valet locking
Valet locking function
By utilizing the remote control with the key blade removed, the valet locking feature enables you to block access to the
trunk and glove compartment for e.g., valet parking or when the car is brought to the retailer for service.
With the valet locking function activated:
The vehicle's doors can be locked or unlocked
The engine can be started
The glove compartment and trunk cannot be unlocked
Access to the trunk is blocked (the trunk lid cannot be unlocked or opened, and the rear seat backrests are locked in the
upright position)
Activating the valet locking function
Begin by removing the key blade from the remote control (see page 115
).
Insert the key in the glove compartment lock.
Turn the key blade 180° clockwise to lock the glove compartment and disconnect the trunk from the central locking
system (a message appears in the information display).
Remove the key blade from the glove compartment lock.
NOTE
The rear seat backrests must also be locked in the upright position.
To do so, insert the key blade into the locks located on the upper outboard edge of the backrests.
Passenger's side: Turn the key counterclockwise to lock the backrest.
Driver's side: Turn the key clockwise to lock the backrest.

Give the parking attendant or service personnel only the remote control (with the key blade removed).
Deactivating the valet locking function
1. Turn the key blade 180° counterclockwise in the glove compartment lock to deactivate valet locking (the trunk can
then be unlocked using the remote control).
2. Use the key blade to unlock the rear seat backrests.
See page 123
for information on locking the glove compartment normally.

Keyless drive (option as available)
Keyless locking and unlocking
This system makes it possible to unlock and lock the vehicle without having to use the remote control. It is only
necessary to have a keyless drive remote control in your possession to operate the central locking system. NOTE

The driver's door on vehicles equipped with keyless drive can be locked or unlocked with the remote control's
detachable key blade if necessary. See page 115
for information on removing the key blade from the remote control.
To access the keyhole in the driver's door:
1. Pry off the keyhole cover by inserting the key blade or a small screwdriver in the hole on the underside of the cover
(indicated by the arrow in the inset illustration).
2. Insert the key blade as far as possible in the driver's door lock. Turn the key blade clockwise approximately one
quarter turn to unlock the driver's door only. This will trigger the alarm.
Disabling the alarm: Press the Unlock button on the keyless drive remote control. If the batteries in the remote are
weak, remove the keyless drive start control from the ignition switch by pressing the catch (see the illustration on page
138) and pulling the control out of the ignition switch. Insert the ignition key section of a keyless drive remote control
in the ignition switch.
Keyless drive remote control and driver's seat memory
This function is only available on vehicles equipped with the optional power driver's seat.
When you leave the car with a keyless drive remote control in your possession and lock any door, the position of
the driver's seat will be stored in the seat's memory.
The next time a door is opened by a person with the same remote control in his/her possession, the driver's seat will
automatically move to the position that it was in when the door was most recently locked.
NOTE
If several people carrying keyless drive remote controls approach the vehicle at the same time, the driver's seat will
assume the position it was in for the person who opens a door first.

Keyless drive information messages
If anyone leaves the vehicle with the only keyless drive remote control in his or her possession while the ignition is
switched on, a message will be shown in the information display and an audible signal will sound.
NOTE
This message will only be displayed if the start control is in position I or II.

The glove compartment can only be locked and unlocked using the detachable key blade on the remote control. See
page 115
for information on removing the key blade from the remote control.
To lock the glove compartment:
Insert the key blade in the glove compartment lock.
Turn the key blade 90 degrees clockwise. The key slot will be in the horizontal position.
Remove the key blade.
Unlock the glove compartment in the reverse order.
Manual child safety locks, rear doors
The controls are located on the rear inside edges of the doors, and are only accessible when the doors are open.
1. Remove the key blade from the remote control (see page 115
).
2. Turn the control with the key blade.
A.The door cannot be opened from the inside.
B. The door can be opened from the inside.

If you intend to leave your vehicle while it is being refueled, this feature enables you to lock the doors/trunk while
leaving the fuel filler door unlocked.
You can also keep the vehicle locked if you remain inside it during refueling. The central locking button does not lock
the fuel filler door.
Be sure the fuel filler door is not obstructed and is completely closed after refueling.
Open the fuel filler cap slowly during hot weather.
Refueling
The fuel tank is designed to accommodate possible expansion of the fuel in hot weather. See page 252
for fuel tank
volume. Be aware that the "usable" tank capacity will be somewhat less than the specified maximum. When the fuel
level is low, such factors as ambient temperature, the fuel's "Reid vapor pressure" characteristics, and terrain can affect
the fuel pump's ability to supply the engine with an adequate supply of fuel. Therefore, it is advisable to refuel as soon
as possible when the needle nears the red zone, or when the fuel warning light comes on.
CAUTION
Do not refuel with the engine running1. Turn the ignition off or to position I. If the ignition is on, an incorrect
reading could occur in the fuel gauge
After refueling, close the fuel filler cap by turning it clockwise until it clicks into place.
Avoid overfilling the fuel tank. Do not press the handle on the filler nozzle more than one extra time. Too much
fuel in the tank in hot weather conditions can cause the fuel to overflow. Overfilling could also cause damage to the
emission control systems.
Avoid spilling gasoline during refueling. In addition to causing damage to the environment, gasolines containing
alcohol can cause damage to painted surfaces, which may not be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Do not use gasolines containing methanol (methyl alcohol, wood alcohol). This practice can result in vehicle
performance deterioration and can damage critical parts in the fuel system. Such damage may not be covered under
the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
1If the fuel filler cap is not closed tightly or if the engine is running when the vehicle is refueled, the Check Engine Light (malfunction indicator
lamp) may indicate a fault. However, your vehicle's performance will not be affected. Use only Volvo original or approved fuel filler caps.

0 - Locked position
Remove the key to lock the steering wheel
1. Never turn the key to position 0 while driving or when the vehicle is
being towed.
NOTE
A ticking sound may be audible if the key is turned to a position between 0 and I. To stop this sound, turn the key to
position II and back to position 0.

5. With the car still on the ground, use the lug wrench to loosen the wheel nuts 1/2- 1 turn by exerting downward
pressure. Turn the nuts counterclockwise to loosen.
6. There are two jack attachment points on each side of the car. Position the jack correctly in the attachment (see
illustration above) and crank while simultaneously guiding the base of the jack to the ground. The base of the jack
must be flat on a level, firm, non-slippery surface. Before raising the car, check that the jack is still correctly
positioned in the attachment.
7. Raise the vehicle until the wheel to be changed is lifted off the ground.
8. Unscrew the wheel bolts completely and carefully remove the wheel so as not to damage the threads on the studs.

Changing a wheel
WARNING
The jack must correctly engage the jack attachment.
Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface.
Never allow any part of your body to be extended under a car supported by a jack.
Use the jack intended for the car when changing a tire. For any other job, use stands to support the car.
Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (P) position.
Block the wheels standing on the ground, use rigid wooden blocks or large stones.
The jack should be kept well-greased and clean, and should not be damaged.
No objects should be placed between the base of jack and the ground, or between the jack and the attachment bar
on the vehicle.

3. Remove the cover on the upper side of the headlight housing by turning it counterclockwise.
4. Driver's side headlight: Turn the bulb holder counterclockwise.
Passenger's side headlight: Turn the bulb holder clockwise.

Replacing bulbs
NOTE
The halogen high beam bulb has a different socket on vehicles equipped with Bi -Xenon® headlights. On these
models, pull the bulb straight out.
WARNING
Bi -Xenon® headlights (option) - due to the high voltage used by these headlights, the Bi -Xenon® bulbs should only
be replaced by an authorized Volvo service technician.
5. Pull out the bulb holder and replace the bulb.
6. Reinstall the bulb holder. It can only be installed in one position.
7. Reinstall the cover on the upper side of the headlight housing by turning it clockwise.
8. Reinstall the headlight housing.

1. Open the hood.

2. Remove the cover on the upper side of the headlight housing by turning it counterclockwise.
3. Pull out the bulb holder.
4. Replace the bulb.
5. Press the bulb holder back into place. It will click into place.
6. Reinstall the cover on the upper side of the headlight housing by turning it clockwise.
7. Reinstall the headlight housing.
