nBefore driving
Fully release the parking brake.
Driving the vehicle with the parking brake set will lead to brake components
overheating, which may affect braking performance and increase brake
wear.

When driving
nDaytime running light system
To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers, the headlights turn on
automatically (at a reduced intensity) whenever the engine is started and the
parking brake is released. Daytime
running lights are not designed for use at
night.

Headlight control sensor
nAutomatic light off system
lWhen the headlights are on: The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 sec−
onds after a door is opened and closed if the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch has been switched to ACCESSORY or OFF mode.
lWhen only the tail lights are on: The tail lights turn off automatically if the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch is switched to ACCESSORY or OFF
mode and driver ’s door is opened.
To turn the lights on again, turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to IGNI−
TION ON mode, or turn the light switch off once and then back to the

position.
nCustomization
Settings (e.g. light sensor sensitivity) can be changed. (
P. 519)
NOTICE
nTo prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the lights on longer than necessary when the engine is not run−
ning.
The sensor may not function properly if
an object is placed on the sensor, or any−
thing that blocks the sensor is affixed to
the windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight sys−
tem to malfunction.

When driving
nCruise control can be set when
lThe shift lever is in the “D” or “4”, “5” or “6” range of “S”.
lVehicle speed is more than approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
nAccelerating
The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed
resumes.
nAutomatic cruise control cancelation
The set speed is automatically canceled in any of the following situations.
lActual vehicle speed falls more than 10 mph (16 km/h) below the preset
vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
lActual vehicle speed is below 25 mph (40 km/h).

VSC is activated.
nCanceling and resuming regular acceleration
Cancel
Push the lever towards you to
cancel cruise control.
The speed setting is also can−
celed when the brakes are
applied.
Resume
To resume cruise control and
return to the set speed, push
the lever up.

Neutral position
Shifting to the neutral position cuts drive power to the wheels.

Shifting from “H4” to the neutral position
Stop the vehicle completely.
Make sure the vehicle is stopped in a safe place while carrying out
the following procedure.
Confirm the following:
lThe four wheel−drive control switch is in “H4”. (The low speed four−
wheel drive indicator light is not illuminated.)
If the switch is in “L4”, turn it to “H4”. (
P. 190)
lThe center differential is unlocked. (The center differential lock indi−
cator light is not illuminated.)
If the center differential is locked,
press the center differential lock/
unlock switch to unlock the center differential. ( P. 190)
Set the parking brake firmly and put the shift lever in “N”.
Turn the engine off if the engine is running, then turn the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch to the IGNITION ON mode.
Do not start the engine till the end of the procedure.
Shift the shift lever to “P”.
Depress and release the brake pedal 3 times.
Depress the pedal firmly each time, then keep the pedal depressed
the third time.
Shift the shift lever to “N”.
Depress and release the brake pedal 3 times.
Release the brake pedal once and then depress and release the
brake pedal 3 times.
Depress the pedal firmly each time, then keep the pedal depressed
the third time.

When driving
Shift the four−wheel drive control switch to “L4”, then shift to
“H4” again.
When shifting the four−wheel drive control switch, push the switch
down while turning it.
The low speed four−wheel drive indicator light will flash slowly (turns
on and off every 2 seconds).
Shift the shift lever to “P”.
Shifting to the neutral position is completed with above procedure.
The unengaged “Park” warning light will turn on when the shift lever
is shifted to the “P” position.
To return to “H4” when the vehicle is in this condition, carry out the
following procedure.
nShifting from neutral position to “H4”
Stop the vehicle completely.
Make sure the vehicle is stopped in a safe place while carrying out
the following procedure.
Set the parking brake firmly.
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the IGNITION ON
mode.
Do not start the engine at this time.
Depress the brake pedal firmly.
Keep the brake pedal depressed till the end of the procedure.
Shift the shift lever to “N”.
Shift the four−wheel drive control switch to “L4”, and then shift
to “H4” again.
When shifting the four−wheel drive control switch, push the switch
down while turning it.
The low speed four−wheel drive indicator light will turn off.
Shifting to “H4” is completed when the low speed four−wheel drive
indicator light turns off.
