mobile phone in the interior of the ve hicle and the charging of the telephone
battery is interrupted.
Note
•Please also refer to the additional instructions ⇒page 160, “Mobile phones
and two-way radio systems”.
•Please contact your Škoda Service Partner if there are any points which are not
clear.
Bluetooth®
The Bluetooth® technology serves as ca bleless connection of a
mobile phone to a hands-free system of your vehicle.
In order to connect a mobile phone with Bluetooth® to the hands-free
system, it is necessary to adapt th e phone and the hands-free system to
each other. Detailed information on this is provided in the operating
instructions of your mobile phone. The following steps must be carried
out for the connection:
– Switch on the ignition.
– Select Bluetooth
® on the mobile phone and select the menu with
which the mobile phone searches for suitable Bluetooth® devices.
– If the hands-free system on the display of the mobile phone announces Skoda UHV , enter the PIN° 1234 within 30 seconds and
wait, until the connection is established.
17)
While connecting the mobile phone with the hands-free system by means of Blue-
tooth®, no other phone can be connected wi th the hands-free system via Blue-
tooth®. Up to three mobile phones can be connected to the hands-free system by means
of Bluetooth
®, whereby only one mobile phone can communicate via Bluetooth®
with the hands-free system. If a fourth mobile phone is connected to the hands-
free-system, then the telephone, which has not been used together with the hands-
free-system for the longest period, is disconnected by means of Bluetooth
®.
Establish Bluetooth
® connection
After switching on the ignition, the Blue tooth connection is automatically estab-
lished for the already adapted mobile phone
17). Check on the mobile unit if the
automatic connection was established.
Disconnect Bluetooth
® connection
After withdrawing the ignition key, the Bluetooth® connection is disconnected.
WARNING
•Pay attention primarily to the traffic situation! As the driver you are fully
responsible for road safety. Use the telephone system only to such an extent,
so that you are in full control of your vehicle at any time - risk of accident!
•In the event of air transport, the Bluetooth® function of the handsfree-
system must be switched off by a specialist garage!
Caution
Taking the mobile phone out of the adapter during the call can lead to interruption
of the connection. When taking out th e mobile phone, the connection to the
factory-fitted antenna is interrupted, this reduces the quality of the transmitting
and receiving signal. This might result additionally in harmful radiation from the
mobile phone in the interior of the ve hicle and the charging of the telephone
battery is interrupted.
Note
•Not valid for all mobile phones which enable a communication via Bluetooth®.
You can ask at a Škoda Service Partner if your telephone is compatible with the
universal telephone preinstallation GSM II.
17)Some mobile phones have a menu, in which the authorization for establishing a Bluetooth®
connection is performed via the input of a code. If the input for the authorization is neces-
sary, it must always be performed when re-establishing the Bluetooth connection.

•Please operate your mobile phone exclus ively with a suitable adapter in order
to keep a low radiation in the vehicle.
•Inserting the mobile phone into the adapter ensures an optimal sending and
receiving power and offers at the same ti me the advantage of the battery charging.
•Note that the range of the Bluetooth® connection to the handsfree-system is
limited to the vehicle interior. The range is dependent on local factors, e.g. obstacles
between the devices and interferences with other devices. If your mobile phone is
e.g. in a jacket pocket, this can lead to difficulties when establishing the Bluetooth
®
connection with the handsfree-system or the data transfer.
Inserting the mobile phone with the adapter*
Only one telephone mount* is factory-fitted. An adapter for the phone
can be purchased from the Škoda original accessories.
Inserting the mobile phone with the adapter
– First of all push the adapter in the direction of arrow ⇒fig. 160 up
to the stop into the mo unt. Press the adapter slightly downwards, until
it locks securely into position.
– Insert the mobile phone into the adapter (as specified in manufac- turer's instructions). Removing the mobile phone with the adapter
– Press simultaneouly the side locks of the mount and remove the
mobile phone and adapter ⇒fig. 160 .
Operating telephone calls with the aid of the adapter*.
The voice control of the telephone is acti vated by pressing the button PTT (button
push to talk) on the adapter ⇒fig. 161 or ⇒fig. 162 .
If you insert the adapter with the telephone in the telephone mount, the handsfree-
system connects to the telephone by means of the interface of the adapter. If the

interrupted.
Adapter “Bluetooth only”
For the adapters which are marked with the “Bluetooth only” logo, the complete
communication between the telephone and the handsfree-system of your vehicle
is carried out only with the help of the Bluetooth
® technology. If an adapter marked
in such a way is inserted in the telephon e mount, it only serves for recharging the battery of the telephone and for transmit
ting the signal onto the outer vehicle
aerial.
Aside from the button PTT, the button SOS can be found on certain adapters
⇒ page 145, fig. 162 . This button is without function.Note
The adapters illustrated are only prime examples.
Operation of the telephone on the multifunction steering wheel*
The driver can set the basic functions of the telephone by simply operating the
buttons located on the steering wheel so th at he can concentrate on the traffic situ-
ation without being distracted as little as possible by operating the telephone
⇒ fig. 163 .
This applies only if your vehicle has been equiped with the telephone preinstalla-
tion at the factory.
If the side lights are switched on, the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel
are illuminated.

Caution
If the vehicle has not been driven for more than 3 to 4 weeks, the battery will
discharge because certain electrical comp onents consume electricity (e.g. control
units) also in idle state. You can prevent the discharging of the battery by discon-
necting the negative terminal or charging the battery constantly with a very low
charging current. Please also refer to the notes when working on the battery
⇒ page 232.
Inspecting the electrolyte level
The battery is practically maintenance-free under normal operating conditions.
We do, however, recommend that you have the electrolyte level inspected from
time to time by a Škoda Service Partner when outside temperatures are high or
when driving on long trips. You should also check the electrolyte level ⇒page 234
each time the battery is charged.
The battery acid level will also be chec ked as part of the Inspection Service.
Operation in winter
The battery has to provide greater amounts of electricity during the winter. It also
has only part of the initial power output at low temperatures that it has at normal
temperatures.
A discharged battery may already freez e at temperatures just below 0°C.
We therefore recommend that you have the battery checked by a Škoda dealer
before the start of the winter, and recharged if necessary.
WARNING
Never charge a frozen or thawed battery - risk of explosion and caustic
burns. Replace a frozen battery.
Charging the battery
A properly charged battery is essential for reliably starting the
engine.
– Read the warning notes ⇒ in “Working on the battery” on
page 232 and ⇒.
– Switch the ignition and all electrical components off.
– Only for “quick-charging” : Disconnect both battery cables (first of all
“negative”, then “positive”).
– Carefully attach the terminal clam ps of the charger to the battery
terminals (red = “positive”, black = “negative”).
– You can now plug the mains cable of the charger into the power socket and switch on the charger.
– When charging is completed: switch the charger off and unplug the mains cable from the power socket.
– Only then should you disconnect the terminal clamps of the charger.
– Reconnect the cables to the battery (first of all “positive”, then “nega-
tive”).
It is not normally necessary to disconnect the cables of the battery if you recharge
the battery using low amperages (as for example from a mini-charger). Please also
refer to the instructions from the charger manufacturer.
A charging current of 0.1 of the total battery capacity (or lower) is that which should
be used until full ch arging is achieved.
It is, however, necessary to disconnect both cables before charging the battery with
high amperages, so-called “ quick-charging”.
“Quick-charging” a battery is dangerous ⇒ in “Working on the battery” on
page 232. It requires a special charger and appropriate knowledge. We therefore
recommend that you have yo ur battery quick-charged only by your Škoda Service
Par tner.

A discharged battery may already
freeze at temperatures just below 0°C ⇒. We
recommend that you no longer use a ba ttery which has thawed out because the
casing of the battery may be cracked through the formation of ice and this would
allow battery electrolyte to flow out.
The vent plugs of the battery should not be opened for charging.
WARNING
Never charge a frozen or thawed battery - risk of explosion and caustic
burns. Replace a frozen battery.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery
On disconnecting and reconnecting the batte ry the following functions are initially
deactivated or are no longer able to operate fault-free.
We recommend having the ve hicle checked by a Škoda Service Partner to ensure
full functionality of all electrical systems.
Replacing the battery
You should only replace a battery with a new battery of the same capacity, voltage
(12 V), amperage and of the same size. Škoda Service Partners have a range of suit-
able batteries available.
We recommend that you only have an old ba ttery disposed of by your Škoda dealer
since it does require special disposal.
For the sake of the environment
Batteries contain pois onous substances such as sulphur ic acid and lead. They must
be disposed of in accordance with loca l environmental protection regulations and
on no account as domestic waste.
Windshield washer system
The windshield washer reservoir contains the cleaning fluid for the windscreen or
rear window and for the headlamp cleaning system*. The reservoir is located at the
front right of the engine compartment ⇒fig. 217 .
The filling level of the container is 3 litres, 5.5 li tres on vehicles which also have a
headlight washing system.
Clear water is not sufficient to intensivel y clean the windscreen and headlights. We
therefore recommend using clean washing water together with the screen cleaner
from Škoda genuine accessorie s (in winter additionally with antifreeze) which is
capable of removing stubborn dirt. Follow the instructions for use on the packaging
when using screen cleaning products.
You should always add antifreeze to the cleaning water in winter even if your
vehicle is fitted with heated windscreen washer nozzles*.
It is also possible in exceptional cases to use methylated spirits when no screen
cleaner with antifreeze is available. The concentration of methylated spirits must
