DescriptionINFOID:0000000003856776
Brake switch signal is applied to the ECM through the stop lamp switch when the brake pedal is depressed.
This signal is used mainly to decrease the engine speed when the vehicle is being driver.
DTC LogicINFOID:0000000003856777
DTC DETECTION LOGIC
DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
1.PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn ignition switch ON.
2. Fully depress the brake pedal for at least 5 seconds.
3. Erase the DTC.
4. Check 1st trip DTC.
Is 1st trip DTC detected?
YES >> Go to EC-291, "Diagnosis Procedure".
NO >> INSPECTION END
Diagnosis ProcedureINFOID:0000000003856778
1.CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Check the stop lamp when depressing and releasing the brake pedal.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 4.
NO >> GO TO 2.
2.CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Disconnect stop lamp switch harness connector.
2. Check the voltage between stop lamp switch harness connector and ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 4.
NO >> GO TO 3.
3.DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART

When connecting or disconnecting pin connectors into or
from ECM, never damage pin terminals (bends or break).
Check that there are not any bends or breaks on ECM pin ter-
minal, when connecting pin connectors.
Securely connect ECM harness connectors.
A poor connection can cause an extremely high (surge) volt-
age to develop in coil and condenser, thus resulting in dam-
age to ICs.
Keep engine control system harness at least 10 cm (4 in) away
from adjacent harness, to prevent engine control system mal-
functions due to receiving external noise, degraded operation
of ICs, etc.
Keep engine control system parts and harness dry.
Before replacing ECM, perform ECM Terminals and Reference
Value inspection and check ECM functions properly. Refer to
EC-357, "
Reference Value".
Handle mass air flow sensor carefully to avoid damage.
Never clean mass air flow sensor with any type of detergent.
Never disassemble electric throttle control actuator.
Even a slight leak in the air intake system can cause serious
incidents.
Never shock or jar the camshaft position sensor (PHASE),
crankshaft position sensor (POS).
After performing each TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS, perform DTC
Confirmation Procedure or Component Function Check.
The DTC should not be displayed in the DTC Confirmation
Procedure if the repair is completed. The Component Func-
tion Check should be a good result if the repair is completed.

Precaution for Liquid GasketINFOID:0000000003802233
REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET SEALING
After removing mounting nuts and bolts, separate the mating sur-
f a c e u s i n g t h e s e a l c u t t e r [ S S T: K V 1 0 1111 0 0 ( J37228)] (A) and
remove old liquid gasket sealing.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
Tap the seal cutter [SST: KV10111100 (J37228)] to insert it (B), and
then slide it (C) by tapping on the side as shown in the figure.
In areas where the seal cutter [SST: KV10111100 (J37228)] is diffi-
cult to use, use a plastic hammer to lightly tap the parts, to remove
it.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason tool such as a screwdriver is
used, be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper (A), remove old liquid gasket adhering to the
gasket application surface and the mating surface.
Remove liquid gasket completely from the groove of the gas-
ket application surface, mounting bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Wipe the liquid gasket application surface and the mating sur-
face with white gasoline (lighting and heating use) to remove
adhering moisture, grease and foreign materials.
3. Attach liquid gasket tube to the tube presser (commercial ser-
vice tool).
Use Genuine Liquid Gasket or equivalent.
4. Apply liquid gasket without breaks to the specified location with
the specified dimensions.
If there is a groove for liquid gasket application, apply liquid
gasket to the groove.
As for bolt holes, normally apply liquid gasket inside the holes.
Occasionally, it should be applied outside the holes. Check to
read the text of this manual.
Within 5 minutes of liquid gasket application, install the mating
component.
If liquid gasket protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
Never retighten mounting bolts or nuts after the installation.
After 30 minutes or more have passed from the installation, fill
engine oil and engine coolant.
CAUTION:
If there are specific instructions in this manual, observe
them.

tion.
4. Install valve spring seat.
5. Install valve.
Install it in the original position.
NOTE:
Larger diameter valves are for intake side.
6. Install valve spring (uneven pitch type).
Install narrow pitch end (paint mark) to cylinder head side
(valve spring seat side).
7. Install valve spring retainer.
8. Install valve collet.
Compress valve spring with the valve spring compressor [SST:

hand.
CAUTION:
When working, take care not to damage valve lifter holes.
Tap valve stem edge lightly with plastic hammer after installa-
tion to check its installed condition.
9. Install valve lifter.
Install it in the original position.
10. Install spark plug tube.
Press-fit spark plug tube as follows:
a. Remove old liquid gasket adhering to cylinder head mounting hole.
b. Apply sealant to area within approximately 12 mm (0.47 in) from edge of spark plug tube press-fit side.
Use high strength thread locking sealant or equivalent. Intake and exhaust : 14.3 - 14.9 mm (0.563 - 0.587 in)

PREPARATION BEFORE ADJUSTING
NOTE:
For details, refer to the regulations in your own country.
Before performing aiming adjustment, check the following.
Adjust the tire pressure to the specification.
Fill with fuel, engine coolant and each oil.
Maintain the unloaded vehicle condition. (Remove luggage from the passenger compartment and the lug-
gage room.)
NOTE:
Do not remove the temporary tire, jack and on-vehicle tool.
Wipe out dirt on the headlamp.
CAUTION:
Never use organic solvent (thinner, gasoline etc.)
Ride alone on the driver seat.
AIMING ADJUSTMENT SCREW
Turn the aiming adjusting screw for adjustment.
For the position and direction of the adjusting screw, refer to the
figure.
NOTE:
A screwdriver or hexagonal wrench [6 mm (0.24 in)] can be used
for adjustment.
Aiming Adjustment ProcedureINFOID:0000000003773618
1. Place the screen.
NOTE:
Stop the vehicle facing the wall.
Place the board on a plain road vertically.
2. Face the vehicle with the screen. Maintain 10 m (32.8 ft) between the front fog lamp center and the
screen.
3. Start the engine. Illuminate the front fog lamp.
CAUTION:
Never cover the lens surface with a tape etc. The lens is made of resin.
NOTE:
Shut off the headlamp light with the board to prevent from illuminating the adjustment screen.
4. Adjust the cutoff line height (A) with the aiming adjustment screw so that the distance (X) between the hor-
izontal center line of front fog lamp (H) and (A) becomes 200 mm (7.87 in).
