a maximum power consumption of 180 W.
! If the engine is switched off and consum-
ers are used for long periods, the battery
may become discharged.

Lift up the cover of the socket.
The cigarette lighter socket can be also used
(Y page 149). It can also be used if the key
has been removed from the ignition lock. Socket in the rear passenger compart-

tions equipment in a vehicle.
If it is permitted by law to operate commu-
nications equipment while the vehicle is in
motion, you may only do so when the traffic
situation allows. Otherwise, you could be
distracted from the traffic conditions,
cause an accident and injure yourself and

without low-reflection exterior aerials can
interfere with the vehicle's electronics and,
thereby, jeopardise the operating safety of
the vehicle and your safety. Therefore, you
may only use this equipment if it is correctly
connected to a separate reflection-free
exterior aerial.

Risk of injury
Excessive electromagnetic radiation may
cause damage to your health and the health
of others. Using an exterior aerial takes into
account current scientific discussions
relating to the possible health risk posed by
electromagnetic fields.
In order to ensure optimum signal quality for
mobile phones and to minimise mutual inter-
ference between the vehicle electronics and
mobile phones, Mercedes-Benz recommends
the use of an approved exterior aerial. An
exterior aerial conducts the electromagnetic
fields generated by a wireless device to the
exterior of the vehicle; the field strength
within the vehicle interior is lower than in a
vehicle that does not have an exterior aerial.
i There are various mobile phone brackets
that may be fitted in your vehicle. In some cases, these are country-specific. You can
obtain these mobile phone brackets from a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
The functions and services available when
you use the phone depend on your mobile
phone model and service provider.
X Open the telephone compart-
ment* (Y page 147).
X Place the mobile phone bracket into the
pre-installed fitting, see separate mobile
phone cradle/bracket installation instruc-
tions.
X Insert the mobile phone into the mobile
phone bracket, see separate mobile phone
cradle/bracket installation instructions.
If the mobile phone is inserted in the mobile
phone bracket, you can only speak to the per-
son you are calling using the hands-free sys-
tem.
You can operate the telephone using the
s andt buttons on the luxury multi-
function steering wheel. You can control
other mobile phone functions via the on-
board computer (Y page 111).
When you remove the key from the ignition
lock, the mobile phone remains switched on
for approximately ten minutes (run-on time). If you make a call during this time, the mobile
phone will be switched off approximately ten
minutes after you have ended the call. Garage door opener*
The remote control integrated in the rear-view
mirror allows you to operate up to three dif-
ferent door and gate systems.
i The garage door opener is only available
for certain countries. Observe the legal
requirements in all countries concerned.
It may not be possible to operate some
garage door opening systems with the inte-
grated remote control. You can obtain
detailed information from any Mercedes-

Only press the transmitter button on the
integrated remote control if there are no
persons or objects present within the
sweep of the garage door. Persons could
otherwise be injured as the door moves.
Programming the remote control i
You will achieve the best results by insert-
ing new batteries in the garage door's
remote control before programming it. X
Erase the memory of the integrated remote
control (Y page 153) before programming
it for the first time.
X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press and hold one of transmitter buttons
2 to4 on the integrated remote control.
Indicator lamp 1starts to flash after a
short while. It flashes about once a second.
i Indicator lamp 1flashes immediately
the first time the transmitter button is pro-
grammed. If this transmitter button has
already been programmed, indicator
lamp 1will only start flashing at a rate of
once a second after 20 seconds have
elapsed.
X Keep the transmitter buttons depressed.
X Point the garage door's remote control with
the transmitter towards the left-hand side
of the rear-view mirror from a distance of
5 to 20 cm.
i The distance between the garage door's
remote control and the integrated garage
door opener depends on the system of the
garage door drive. You might require sev-
eral attempts. You should test every posi- tion for at least 20 seconds before trying
another position.
X Keep the transmitter button on the garage
door's remote control depressed until indi-
cator lamp 1starts to flash rapidly.
The programming was successful if indica-
tor lamp 1flashes rapidly.
X Release the transmitter buttons on the
garage door's remote control and the inte-
grated remote control.
If indicator lamp 1goes out after approxi-
mately 20 seconds and did not flash rapidly
before this:
X Release the transmitter buttons on the
integrated and portable remote controls.
X Repeat the programming procedure. When
doing so, change the distance between the
garage door's remote control and the trans-
mitter buttons in the rear-view mirror.
i If the garage door system works with a
rolling code, after programming you must
synchronise the remote control integrated
in the rear-view mirror with the garage door
system receiver.

Opening or closing the garage door Once programmed, the integrated remote
control will assume the function of the garage
door system's remote control. Please read
the operating instructions for the garage door
system.
X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press the transmitter button on the rear-
view mirror that you have programmed to
operate the garage door.
i The transmitter will transmit a signal for
as long as the transmitter button is being
pressed. The transmission will be halted
after a maximum of 20 seconds and indi-
cator lamp 1will flash. Press the trans-
mitter button again if necessary. Clearing the remote control memory X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press and hold transmitter buttons 2and
4 for approximately 20 seconds until indi-
cator lamp 1flashes rapidly.
The memory is cleared.
i You should clear the remote control mem-
ory before selling the vehicle. Floormat on the driver's side

Risk of accident
Make sure that there is sufficient clearance
around the pedals when floormats are
used, and that the floormats are properly
secured.
The floormats must be secured at all times
using retainers and studs.
Before you drive off, make sure that the
floormats are secure and rectify if neces-
sary. A floormat which is not properly
secured can slip and thereby interfere with
the movement of the pedals.

ing from adding the wrong fuel is not cov-
ered by the warranty.
! Do not start the engine if you accidentally
refuel with the wrong fuel. Otherwise, the
fuel could enter the fuel lines. This would
require draining of the fuel tank and fuel
lines. Notify a qualified specialist workshop
and have the fuel tank and fuel lines
drained completely.
When you open or close the vehicle with the
key, the fuel filler flap is automatically
unlocked or locked.
The fuel filler flap is to the rear on the right. 1

Remove the key from the ignition lock.
X To open: press fuel filler flap 1in the
direction of the arrow.
The fuel filler flap opens slightly.
X Open fuel filler flap 1.
X Turn fuel fill cap 2to the left and remove.
X Insert fuel filler cap 2into the holder
bracket on the inside of filler flap 1.
X Only fill the tank until the pump nozzle
switches off.
! Overfilling the tank could damage the fuel
system.
X To close: replace fuel filler cap 2and turn
it to the right. The fuel filler cap audibly
engages.
X Close fuel filler flap 1.
The cap engages.
i Vehicles with a diesel engine:
If the tank has been run completely dry, it
will be necessary to bleed the fuel system
(Y page 219). Petrol (EN 228, DIN 51626-1)
! Refuel using only unleaded premium
grade petrol with at least 95 RON/85 MON,
which conforms to European standard
EN 228 or German standard DIN 51626-1.
You could otherwise impair engine output
or damage the engine.
i As a temporary measure, but only when
the recommended fuel is not available, you
may also use regular unleaded petrol,
91 RON/82.5 MO N. Thismay reduce
engine performance and increase fuel con-
sumption. Avoid driving at full throttle.
In some countries, the available petrol qual-
ity may not be sufficient and could cause
coking around the inlet valve. In such
cases, and in consultation with a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre, the petrol
may be mixed with the additive recommen-
ded by Mercedes-Benz (part no.
A000989254510). You must observe the
notes and mixing ratios given on the con-
tainer.

If only summer diesel fuel or less cold-resist-
ant winter diesel fuel (e.g. in Mediterranean
regions) is available, you should add an
amount of flow improver to the fuel corre-
sponding to the outside temperature.
Mix the additive with the diesel in good time,
before the flow properties of the diesel
become insufficient. Otherwise, malfunctions
can only be rectified by heating the entire fuel
system, e.g. by parking the vehicle in a heated
garage. G
Risk of fire
Do not use petrol to refuel vehicles with a
diesel engine. Never mix diesel with petrol.
This would damage the fuel system and
engine and could result in a vehicle fire.
Flow improver
The effectiveness of a flow improver is not
guaranteed with every fuel. Observe the infor-
mation provided by the manufacturer when
using a flow improver. Only use flow improv-
ers that have been tested and approved by
Mercedes-Benz. Information about flow
improvers that have been tested and
approved by Mercedes-Benz can be obtained
from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Engine compartment
Bonnet

Risk of accident
Do not pull the release lever while the vehi-
cle is in motion. The bonnet may otherwise
open and block your view.
Opening G
Risk of injury
There is a risk of injury if the bonnet is open,
even if the engine is not running.
Some engine components can become
very hot.
To avoid the risk of burns, only touch those
components described in the Owner’s Man-
ual and observe the relevant safety notes. G
Risk of injury
The radiator fan between the radiator and
the engine can start automatically, even if
the key has been removed from the ignition
lock. For this reason you must not reach
into the turning area of the fan. You can
otherwise be injured. Vehicles with a petrol engine:
The electronic ignition system uses high
voltage. For this reason, you must never
touch components of the ignition system
(ignition coil, ignition cable, spark plug con-
nector or test socket) when:
R the engine is running
R the engine is being started
R the ignition is switched on and the engine
is being cranked by hand
Vehicles with a diesel engine:
The electronic injection control uses high
voltage. Therefore, never touch fuel injec-
tion system components when:
R the engine is running
R the engine is being started
R the ignition is switched on
X Make sure that the windscreen wipers are
switched off. G
Risk of injury
The windscreen wipers and wiper linkage
could be set in motion.
When the bonnet is open, you or others
could be injured by the wiper rods. Operation

X Check that the bonnet has engaged prop-
erly.
i If the bonnet can be raised slightly, it is
not properly engaged. Open it again and
