72 Safety and Security
Occupant safety
CLK cabriolet: Rear side impact air
bags*
1Rear side impact air bag*
The rear side impact air bags*1 are
deployed:
on the impacted side of the vehicle
in side impacts exceeding a preset de-
ployment threshold
independently of the front air bags
The rear side impact air bags*1 are not
deployed in impacts which do not exceed
the system’s deployment threshold.
Occupant Classification System
The O
ccupant Classification System (OCS)
automatically turns the front passenger
front air bag on or off based on the classi-
fied occupant weight category determined
by weight sensor readings from the front
passenger seat.Occupants must sit properly belted in a
position that is as upright as possible with
their back against the seat backrest and
feet on the floor to be correctly classified.
If the occupant's weight is transferred to
another object in the vehicle (e.g. by
leaning on armrests), the OCS may not be
able to properly approximate the
occupant’s weight category.
Both driver and the front passenger should
always use the 56 indicator lamp
as an indication of whether or not the front
passenger is properly positioned.
iCLK coupe: The system does not deactivate
the front passenger side impact air bag, the win-
dow curtain air bag and the emergency tension-
ing device.
CLK cabriolet: The system does not deactivate
the head-thorax air bag and the emergency ten-
sioning device.
iIf your seat, including your trim cover and
cushion needs to be serviced in any way, take
the vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Only seat accessories approved by
Mercedes-Benz may be used.

Useful features
Call priority
If other service calls such as a Roadside
Assistance call or Information call are ac-
tive, an Emergency call is still possible. In
this case, the Emergency call will take pri-
ority and override all other active calls.Remote door unlock
In case you have locked your vehicle unin-
tentionally (e.g. SmartKey inside vehicle),
and the reserve SmartKey is not handy:
Contact the Mercedes-Benz Response
Center at 1-800-756-9018 (in the USA)
or 1-888-923-8367 (in Canada).
You will be asked to provide your pass-
word which you provided when you
completed the subscriber agreement.
Then return to your vehicle and pull the
trunk recessed handle for a minimum
of 20 seconds until the SOS button is
flashing.
The message
Connecting Call
appears in the multifunction display.
As an alternative, you may unlock the vehi-
cle via Internet using the ID and password
sent to you shortly after the completion of
your acquaintance call.
The Response Center will then unlock your
vehicle with the remote door unlocking
feature.
iThe indicator lamp in the respective button
flashes until the call is concluded. Calls can only
be terminated by a Response Center or Custom-
er Assistance Center representative except
Roadside Assistance and Information calls,
which can also be terminated by pressing
buttonton the multifunction steering wheel
or the respective button for ending a telephone
call on the audio system or the COMAND* head
unit.
!If the indicator lamp continues to flash or
the system does not reset, contact the Response
Center at 1-800-756-9018 (in the USA), or
1-888-923-8367 (in Canada), or Mercedes-Benz
Customer Assistance at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes
(1-800-367-6372) in the USA, or Customer Ser-
vice at 1-800-387-0100 in Canada.
iWhen a Tele Aid call has been initiated, the
audio system or the COMAND* system audio is
muted and the selected mode (radio or CD)
pauses. The optional cellular phone (if installed)
switches off. If you must use this phone, the ve-
hicle must be parked. Disconnect the coiled cord
and place the call. The COMAND* navigation
system (if engaged) will continue to run. The dis-
play in the instrument cluster is available for use,
and spoken commands are only available by
pressing the RPT button on the COMAND* head
unit. A pop-up window will appear in the
COMAND* display to indicate that a Tele Aid call
is in progress.

maintenance service indicator in the
maintenance-relevant information for your
vehicle. Such information is available from
any authorized Mercedes-Benz Center or
directly from Mercedes-Benz.iIf the battery is disconnected, the days of
disconnection will not be included in the count

iIf the maintenance service indicator was in-
advertently reset, have an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center correct it.
Only reset if the proper maintenance service has
been performed. Resetting the system without
performing the proper service as called for by
