Theft Deterrent System
■Immobilizer system
The immobilizer system prevents the hybrid sys-
tem from being started in the event that an
attempt is made to start the vehicle using an
unregistered key.
The security indicator light flashes to indicate that
the system is set.
■ Alarm
The system sounds the alarm and flashes light when an attempt to steal the vehicle is
detected.
To set the alarm: close the doors, trunk and hood, and lock all doors. The indicator light
comes on to indicate that the alarm is in it s preparation state. When the indicator light
begins to flash, the system is armed.
To deactivate or stop the alarm: turn the “POWER” switch to the ACCESSORY or ON
mode, or unlock the doors or trunk.
■ Steering lock
The steering lock is engaged when the driver’s
door is opened with the “POWER” switch OFF.
The theft deterrent system includes the followi ng features to help protect your vehicle from
theft.

Inside Rear View Mirror
To turn auto mode on/off, press the auto button.
The indicator comes on when auto mode is
turned on.

The steering wheel retracts automatically when the “POWER” switch is turned OFF to
allow for easy exit and entry. The steering wheel returns automatically to its previously set
position when the “POWER” switch is switched to ACCESSORY or ON mode.

Starting
■Starting the hybrid system
Make sure the parking brake is engaged and the
shift lever is in “P”.
Depress the brake pedal.The “POWER” switch indicator light turns
green.
Press the “POWER” switch. The “READY” light comes on, showing
that’s the vehicle is ready to drive.
■Stopping the hybrid system
Engage the parking brake and shift the shift lever to “P”.
Press the “POWER” switch.
■Changing “POWER” switch modes
To change “POWER” switch modes without turning on the hybrid system, press the
“POWER” switch without depressing the brake pedal. The modes can be changed in the
following order:
With the electronic key on your person, the hybrid system can be started by simply press-
ing the “POWER” switch, while depressing the brake pedal.
(The mechanical key cannot be us ed to start the hybrid system.)

Engaging the emergency flasher switch causes all
the turn signal lights to flash.
Mode Select Switch

An indicator comes on when in power or snow
mode.

AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System)
Sports mode
Suitable for meandering mountainous driv-
ing or high speed driving.
Normal mode Suitable for normal driving.
TRAC/VSC Off Mode
To turn off TRAC: Push the VSC OFF switch
briefly. The slip indicator light will come on.
To turn off VSC: Push and hold the VSC OFF
switch for 3 seconds when the vehicle is not mov-
ing. The slip indicator light and VSC OFF indica-
tor light come on.
Push the button again to turn the system back on.
AVS controls the suspension and steering wheel operation according to the road and
driving conditions.

This switch turns off the traction control sy stem or vehicle stability control system.
Use this switch if the wheels get stuck in snow, mud etc.
