Trunk lid open warning (if equipped)
This warning light activates when the
trunk is not closed securely.
Low fuel level warning
This warning light indicates the fuel
tank is nearly empty. The warning
light will come on when the fuel level
has dropped to about 8.5 liters.
Refuel as soon as possible. Door ajar warning
This warning light illuminates when a door is not closed securely with the
ignition in any position.Headlight high beam indicator This indicator illuminates when the headlights are on and in the high
beam position or when the turn sig-
nal lever is pulled into the Flash-to-
Pass position.
Front fog light indica- tor (if equipped) This light comes on when the front
fog lights are ON.
Low washer fluid level warning indicator(if equipped)
This warning light indicates the
washer fluid reservoir is near empty.
Refill the washer fluid as soon as
possible.Malfunction indicator (if equipped)
This indicator light is part of the Engine Control System which moni-
tors various emission control system
components. If this light illuminates
while driving, it indicates that a
potential problem has been detected
somewhere in the emission controlsystem. This light will also illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned to the
ON position, and will go out in a few
seconds after the engine is started. If
it illuminates while driving, or doesnot illuminate when the ignition
switch is turned to the ON position,
take your vehicle to your nearest
authorized KIA dealer and have the
system checked.
Generally, your vehicle will continue
to be drivable and will not need tow-
ing, but have the system checked by
an authorized Kia Dealer as soon as
possible.

Air bag warning (if equipped)
This warning light will blink or illumi-
nate for approximately 6 seconds
each time you turn the ignition switchto the ON position. If this indicator does not go out, or if
it illuminates while the vehicle is
being driven, see an authorized Kia
Dealer for immediate service.
Passenger’s front air
bag OFF indicator (if equipped)
The passenger’s front air bag OFF
indicator illuminates for about 4 sec-
onds after the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position.
The passenger’s front air bag OFF indicator also comes on when the
passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch is set to OFF position and
turns off when the passenger’s front
air bag ON/OFF switch is set to ONposition.CAUTION
Prolonged driving with the
Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light ( ) illuminated may causedamage to the emission con-trol systems which could effect drivability and/or fueleconomy.
If the EmissionControl System
Malfunction Indicator Light ( ) begins to flash ON andOFF, potential catalytic con- verter damage is possiblewhich could result in loss ofengine power. Have the Engine Control System inspected assoon as possible by an author-ized Kia Dealer.
CAUTION
If there is a malfunction of the
passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch, the passenger’sfront air bag OFF indicator will not illuminate and the passen-ger’s front air bag will inflate infrontal impact crashes even if the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch is set to OFFposition.
If this occurs, have an author-ized KIA dealer inspect the pas- senger’s front air bag ON/OFFswitch and the SRS air bag sys-tem as soon as possible.

Auto cruise indicator (if equipped) CRUISE indicator The indicator light illuminates when
the cruise control system is enabled.
SET indicator The indicator light illuminates when
the cruise function switch
(SET/COAST or RES/ACC) is ON.TCS indicator
(Traction ControlSystem) (if equipped)
The TCS indicator will illuminate
when the ignition switch is turned
ON, but should go off after approxi-
mately 3 seconds. When the TCS is
on, it monitors the driving conditions
and under normal driving conditions,
the TCS light will remain off. When a
slippery or low traction condition is
encountered, the TCS will operate,
and the TCS indicator will blink to
indicate the TCS is operating. TCS OFF indicator (if equipped)
The TCS OFF indicator will illuminate
when the ignition switch is turned
ON, but should go off after approxi-
mately 3 seconds. To switch to TCS
OFF mode, press the TCS button.
The TCS OFF indicator will illuminate
indicating the TCS is deactivated. If
this indicator stays on in the TCS ON
mode, the TCS may have a malfunc-
tion. Take your car to the authorized
Kia dealer and have the system
checked.Overspeed warning (if equipped)
If you drive at a speed of 120 km/h or
more, the overspeed warning light
will illuminate.
This is to warn you from driving your
vehicle with excessive speed.
Glow indicator
(diesel engine only)
This light is turned on during warm-
up and turned off after it.

If the glow indicator continues to
illuminate after the engine has
warmed up or while driving, check
the system by an Authorized Kia
Dealer or other competent repairshop as soon as possible.

Sedimentor level warning (diesel
engine only)
The light comes on if water in the
sedimentor is accumulated more
than normal. Drain water if the light is
turned on. Safety belt warning chime
Ty p e A
If the driver's seat belt is not fastened
when the ignition key is turned “ON”
or if it is disconnected after the key is
ON, the safety belt warning chime
will sound for approximately 6 sec-
onds.
Ty p e B
If the driver's lap/shoulder belt is not
fastened when the key is turned ON
and you drive over 9km/h, the safety
belt warning chime will sound for
approximately 100 seconds after the
warning light blinks for approximately
one minute.
If the driver's lap/shoulder belt is dis-
connected after the key is turn ON
and you drive over 9km/h, the safety
belt warning chime will sound for
approximately 100 seconds.
But, if the driver's lap/shoulder belt is connected and disconnected twice
within 9 seconds after the belt is fas-
tened, the safety belt warning chime
will not operate.Key reminder warning chime
If the driver’s door is opened and the
ignition key is left in the ignition
switch in the LOCK or ACC position,
the key reminder warning chime will
sound. This is to prevent you from
locking your keys in the vehicle.
Overspeed warning chime (if equipped)
If you drive with the speed of 120
km/h or more, the overspeed warn-
ing chime will sound. This is to pre-
vent you from driving your vehicle
with overspeed.
CAUTION
When the fuel filter warning
light is illuminated, enginepower (vehicle speed & idle speed) may decrease. If youkeep driving with the warninglight on, you can damage yourvehicle's engine parts and injec- tion system of the CommonRail. If this occurs, have yourvehicle checked by an author- ized KIA dealer as soon as pos-sible.

The hazard warning flasher causes
the rear tail lights and front turn sig-
nal lights to flash on and off, which
serves as a warning to other drivers
to exercise caution when approach-
ing or passing your vehicle.
To activate the flasher, depress the
hazard warning flasher switch. This
switch operates in any ignition switchposition.
To turn the flashers off, depress the

Air conditioning button (if equipped)
Push the A/C button to turn the air conditioning system on (indicator
light will illuminate). Push the button
again to turn the air conditioning sys-
tem off.

Continued climate control system operation in the recir-

vehicle which may fog the
glass and obscure visibility.
Do not sleep in a vehicle with air conditioning or heating
system on. It may cause seri-ous harm or death due to a
drop in the oxygen level
and/or body temperature.

drowsiness or sleepiness, and
loss of vehicle control. Set the
air intake control to the out-side (fresh) air position as
much as possible while driv-ing.

Outside (fresh) air position
The indicator light on the
button is illuminated whenthe outside (fresh) airposition is selected. With the outside (fresh) air position selected, air
enters the vehicle fromoutside and is heated orcooled according to thefunction selected.

BEFORE DRIVING
Before entering vehicle:
Be sure that all windows, outside mirror(s), and outside lights are clean.
Check the condition of the tires.
Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up.
Necessary inspections
Fluid levels, such as engine oil,
engine coolant, brake fluid, and
washer fluid should be checked on a
regular basis, with the exact interval
depending on the fluid. Further
details are provided in Section 7,
Maintenance. Before starting
Close and lock all doors.
Position the seat so that all con-
trols are easily reached.
Adjust the inside and outside rearview mirrors.
Be sure that all lights work.
Check all gauges.
Check the operation of warning lights when the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position.
Release the parking brake and make sure the brake warning lightgoes out.
For safe operation, be sure you are
familiar with your vehicle and itsequipment.
WARNING - Driving under
the influence of alcohol or drugs
Drinking and driving is danger-
ous. Drunk driving is the num-
ber one contributor to the high-
way death toll each year. Even asmall amount of alcohol will
affect your reflexes, perceptions
and judgement.
You are much more likely to
have a serious accident if you
drink and drive.
If you are drinking or taking
drugs, don’t drive. Do not ridewith a driver who has beendrinking or taking drugs.Choose a designated driver orcall a cab. Driving while under the influ-
ence of drugs is as dangerous
or more dangerous than drivingdrunk.
