How-ever, you can contribute to the eco- nomical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the followingrecommendations during the first 1,000 km (600 miles).
o While driving, keep your engine
speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) within 3,000 rpm.
o While driving, keep under three quar- ters of maximum speed.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedal fully.

However, because the doors can be locked without a key, carrying a sparekey is recommended in case you acci- dentally lock one key inside the car.

o Whether going fast or slow, vary your
speed from time to time.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes at one time.

o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try
to avoid hard stops.

This key numberplate should not be left with the keys but kept in a safe place, not in the vehicle. The key number should alsobe recorded in a place where it can be found in an emergency. o When starting the engine, do not use the key with other immobi- lizer keys in close proximity. Oth-erwise, the engine may not start or may stop soon after it starts. Keep each keys separately not tohave any malfunction after you receive your new vehicle.
o Do not put metal accessories near
the key or ignition switch.The engine may not start for the metal accessories may interruptthe transponder signal from nor- mally transmitting.

All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However, since it is possible to lock the doors without the use of the key, care shouldbe exercised to ensure that the key does not become locked inside the vehicle by mistake. NOTE: If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to cancel thesystem or start the engine.

In order to prevent theft of your ve- hicle, do not leave spare keys any- where in your vehicle. Your immobi-lizer password is a customer unique password and should be kept confi- dential. Do not leave this numberanywhere in your vehicle.

NOTE: If the engine dies while driving after limp home procedure, you can start your engine within 8 seconds with-out limp home procedure again.
5. If the immobilizer indicator blinks for
five seconds, you have to try the limp home procedure again from the beginning.
After doing the limp home procedure,you have to consult with your autho-rized Hyundai dealer as soon as pos- sible.
! CAUTION:
o If you fail to try the limp home procedure with the sequence of three times, you have to wait forabout one hour to do the limp home procedure again.
o If you cannot start your engine in spite of limp home procedure,have your vehicle towed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

o Unlocked doors can be danger- ous. Before you drive away (es- pecially if there are children inthe car), be sure that all the doors are securely closed and locked so that the doors cannot be inad-vertently opened from the inside. This helps ensure that doors will not be opened accidentally. Also,when combined with the proper use of seat belts, locking the doors helps keep occupants frombeing ejected from the car in case of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traf-fic.
o In case of accident, the door is unlocked automatically (If In-stalled). o The door can be locked or unlocked
with a key.
o Lock the door by turning the key
toward the front of the vehicle andunlock it by turning the key toward the rear.

Your Hyundai is equipped with a "child- protector" rear door lock assembly.When the lock mechanism is engaged, the rear door cannot be opened from the inside. It's use is recommendedwhenever there are small children in the rear seat.
o To protect against theft, always
remove the ignition key, close all windows, and lock all doors andtail gate when leaving your ve- hicle unattended. NOTE: When the door is locked, the red mark on the switch is not visible and the character "LOCK" on the switchis visible.

To lock the doors from the outside, first push the inside lock switch to the"LOCK" position, so that the red mark on the switch is not visible, then close the door.The door will not lock if the key is left in the ignition switch when the front doors close. This is normal operation. (If in-stalled) NOTE:

The central door locking is operated by pushing the driver's door lock switch toward the front or rear of the vehicle.If the passenger and rear doors are open when the switch is pushed, the door will remain locked when closed. NOTE:
o When pushing the switch toward
the rear, all doors and tail gate will unlock. When pushing the switch toward the front, all doors and tail gatewill lock.
o When the door is unlocked, the
red mark on the switch is visibleand the character "LOCK" on the switch is visible.
o The central door locking is oper- ated by turning the key (with theft-alarm system: driver's door and passenger's door, without theft-alarm system: driver's door only) toward the front or rear of the vehicle.
o If the door is locked/unlocked mul- tiple times in rapid successionwith either the vehicle key or doorlock switch, the system may stop operating temporarily in order to protect the circuit and preventdamage to system components. 2. Carefully separate the case with a flat-head screwdriver as shown in the illustration.

In winter, or if you have driven through mud or muddy water, be sure to thoroughly clean theunderside as well. Use a hard direct stream of water to remove accumula- tions of mud or corrosive materials.Use a good quality car-washing solu- tion and follow the manufacturer's di- rections on the package. These areavailable at your Hyundai dealer or auto parts outlet. Don't use strong house- hold detergents, gasoline, strong sol-vents or abrasive cleaning powders as these may damage the finish. Use a clean sponge or cloth, rinse itfrequently and don't damage the finish by rubbing too hard. For stubborn spots, dampen them frequently and removethem a little at a time. To clean whitewall tires, use a stiff brush or soapy steel-wool scouringpad. To clean plastic wheel covers, use a clean sponge or soft cloth and water. To clean cast aluminum alloy wheels, use a mild soap or neutral detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Protect thebare-metal surfaces by cleaning, pol- ishing and waxing. Because aluminum is subject to corrosion, be sure to givealuminum alloy wheels special atten- tion in winter. If you drive on salted roads, clean the wheels thoroughly af-terwards. After washing, be sure to rinse thor- oughly. If soapy water dries on the finish, streaking will result. When the weather is warm and the humidity low, you may find it neces- sary to rinse each section immediatelyafter washing to avoid streaking. After rinsing, dry the car using a damp chamois or soft, absorbent cloth. The reason for drying the car is to remove water from the car so it will dry withoutwater spots. Don't rub, this can dam- age the finish.
If you find any nicks or scratches in thepaint, use touch-up paint to cover them to prevent corrosion. To protect thepaintwork of the car against corrosion, you must clean your Hyundai (at least once a month). Give special attentionto the removal of salt, mud and other substances on the underside of the splashboards of the car. Make sure thatthe outlets and the underside of the doors are open. Paint damage can be caused by small accumulation of tar,industrial precipitation, tree resin, in- sects and bird droppings, when not removed immediately. If water alone isnot strong enough to remove the accu- mulated dirt, use a mild car washing solution. Be sure to rinse the surfaceafter washing to remove the solution. Never allow the solution to dry on the painted surfaces.
