HEATING CONTROLS

For faster heating, the air intake control switch should be set in the recirculate (

If the windows fog up, set the air flow control to the defrost (

BI-LEVEL HEATING
B700A02A-AAT Your Hyundai is equipped with bi-level heating controls. This makes it pos- sible to have cooler air from the dash- board vents and warmer air from thefloor outlets at the same time. To use this feature:
o Set the air intake control switch to the fresh air (
) position.
o Set the air flow control at the bi-level (
) position.
o Adjust the fan speed control to the
desired speed.
o Set the temperature control between "Cool" and "Warm". OGK016700

13. Avoid holding the brake pedal downtoo long or too frequently. This could cause the brakes to overheat, re- sulting in reduced braking efficiency.
14. When going down a hill, shift into a
lower gear and use the engine brak-ing effect. When climbing a long grade, down-shift the transaxle to a lower gear and reduce speed to reduce chances of engine overloading and/or over-heating.
15. If you have to stop whilst going
uphill, do not hold the vehicle inplace by pressing on the accelera- tor. This can cause the automatic transaxle to overheat. Use the park-ing brake or footbrake.
NOTE: When towing, check transaxle fluid more frequently.
8. When parking your car and trailer,
especially on a hill, be sure to followall the normal precautions. Turn your front wheels into the curb, set the parking brake firmly, and put thetransaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual) or Park (automatic). In addition we advise the use of wheel chocks ateach of the trailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes, start
your vehicle and trailer moving, andthen apply the trailer brake controller by hand to be sure the brakes are working. This lets you check yourelectrical connection at the same time.
10. During your trip, check occasionally to be sure that the load is secure,and that the lights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel- eration or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane changes.
YC200E3-E Trailer or Vehicle Towing Tips
1. Before towing, check towbar ball and
safety cable connections as well as proper operation of the trailer running lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
2. Always drive your vehicle at a mod-
erate speed (Less than 60 mph).
3. Trailer towing requires more fuel than
normal conditions.
4. To maintain engine braking effi- ciency, do not tow a trailer with the transaxle in fifth gear (manual transaxle) or overdrive (automatic transaxle).
5. Always secure items in the trailer to prevent load shift whilst driving.
6. Check the condition and air pressure of all tyres on the trailer and your car. Low tyre pressure can seriously af- fect the handling. Also check thespare tyre.
7. The vehicle/trailer combination is
more affected by crosswind and buf-feting. When being passed by a large vehicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead. If there is toomuch wind buffeting, slow down to get out of the other vehicle's air turbulence.

CAUTION:
o Do not use snow chains with your temporary spare tyre.
o Do not use more than one tempo-
rary spare tyre at a time.
5. The temporary spare tyre should not
be used on any other wheels, nor should standard tyre, snow tyre, wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. Ifsuch use is attempted, damage to these items or other car compo- nents may occur.
6. The temporary spare tyre pressure should be checked once a monthwhilst the tyre is stored. SD060A1-E If a puncture occurs whilst driving the vehicle:
1. Bring the car to rest as soon as it is
safe to do so and with the minimum amount of braking required which will assist in maintaining the maxi-mum amount of control. The vehicle should be parked wherever pos- sible upon firm level ground to facili-tate wheel changing.
2. If the vehicle is creating a hazard
and the road conditions do not per-mit the wheel to be changed safely, assistance should be sought.
3. Passengers must not be allowed to remain inside the vehicle duringwheel changing. If a puncture oc- curs whilst the vehicle is on amotorway, the passengers should take refuge on the motorway em- bankment to avoid the possibility ofinjury occurring should the vehicle be struck by other motorway traffic.
4. Wheel changing should be per- formed according to the followinginstructions.
D040B01A-EAT Handling the Spare Tyre Remove the installation bolt to remove the spare tyre. To replace the spare tyrein its storage compartment, tighten the bolt firmly with your fingers until there is no more play in the spare tyre. HGK4010A

11CHANGING THE AIR CLEANER FILTER
G070A01E-AAT To change the filter, unsnap the clips around the cover. When this is done, the cover can be lifted off, the oldfilter removed and the new filter put in its place. Genuine Hyundai Replace- ment Parts are recommended.

! CAUTION:
o Operating your vehicle without a proper air cleaner filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.
o When removing the air cleaner filter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake. These may result in damage tothe air cleaner filter.

!WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will au-tomatically shut off. This is a nor- mal condition.
5. Prepare a suitable quantity of new
engine coolant (refer to section 9) and pour this into the radiator.
6. Start the engine with the radiator
cap still removed and continue toadd coolant as the level decreases as air is expelled from the system. When the level remains constant,replace the radiator cap and re- plenish the coolant reservoir.
7. When the engine is hot, check to ensure that no coolant leaks arepresent.

CHECKING THE CLUTCH FLUID

(Manual Transaxle)To Check the Clutch Fluid
The clutch fluid level in the master cylinder should be checked when performing other under bonnet checks. The system should be checked forleakage at the same time.Ensure that the clutch fluid level isalways between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings on the fluid reservoir. Fill as required. Fluid loss indicates aleak in the clutch system which should be inspected and repaired immedi- ately.
WARNING:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an un- sealed container. The presence ofwater in the braking system will cause vapour locks and increase the possibility of brake fade alongwith promoting corrosion within the braking system. The brake fluid must be changed at the specifiedtime or mileage interval to ensure continued safe operation of the system. Brake fluid will cause rapidand serious damage to paintwork. If accidental spillage occurs, the affected area must be rinsed withwater immediately. Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the eyes or to be ingestedand ensure that fluid is safely stored away form the reach of chil- dren.
