2FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
B010A03A-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline For Europe – For the optimal vehicle
performance, we recommend you to use unleaded gasoline with an octanerating of RON (Research Octane Num- ber) 95 /AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher. You may use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON 91~94/AKI 87~90 but it may result in slight performancereduction of the vehicle. Except Europe – Unleaded gasoline
with a Pump Octane Rating of 87 (Re- search Octane Number 91) or higher must be used in Hyundai vehicle. If leaded gasoline is used, it will causethe catalytic converter to become inef-fective and the emission control sys- tem to malfunction. This can also result in increased main-tenance expense. To avoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at servicestations can not be inserted into fuel tank opening of Hyundai vehicle. NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai
vehicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you are going to use leaded gasoline, ask to Hyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicle is available or not.
o Octane Rating of leaded gaso- line is same with unleaded one. B010B01A-AAT What About Gasohol? Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grainalcohol) may be used in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops driveability problems, the use of 100%unleaded gasoline is recommended. Fuels with unspecified quantities of alcohol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.
B010D01S-AAT Do not Use Methanol Fuels containing methanol (wood al- cohol) should not be used in your Hyundai. This type of fuel can reducevehicle performance and damage com- ponents of the fuel system.
CAUTION:
Your Hyundai's New Vehicle Lim- ited Warranty may not cover dam-age to the fuel system and perfor- mance problems that are caused by the use of methanol or fuels con-taining methanol.

Reset Switch
o The reset switch is used to zero the
multi-functional display mode.
o Pushing in the reset switch on the left side of tachometer changes the display as follows; 1. Distance to Empty
o This mode provides the estimated
distance to empty from the current fuel level in the fuel tank.
o The trip computer may not register additional fuel if less than 6 liters(1.36 gallons) of fuel are added to thevehicle.
o When the battery has been rein-
stalled after being discharged ordisconnected, drive more than 32km for an accurate distance to empty.

o The distance to empty can differ from the actual tripmeter accord- ing to driving conditions.
o The distance to empty can vary
according to the driving condi-tions, driving pattern or vehicle speed.

C090A03Y-GAT OPERATING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE
The highly efficient Hyundai automatic transaxle has four forward speeds and one reverse speed. The individualspeeds are selected automatically, depending on the position of the speed selector lever. The selector lever has 2gates; the main gate and the manual gate. NOTE: For information on manual gate operation, refer to "Sports Mode". In the main gate, the selector lever has 4 positions, and is equipped with a button to avoid inadvertent wrong se-lection. The first few shifts on a new vehicle, orif the battery has been disconnected, may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normal condition, and the shifting se- quence will adjust after shifts are cycleda few times by the T.C.M (Transaxle Control Module).
CAUTION:
Never shift into "R" or "P" position while the vehicle is moving.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER
H020A01A-AAT ; For a Gasoline Engine (If Installed) Hyundai vehicle is equipped with a monolith type three-way catalytic con-verter to reduce the carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides con- tained in the exhaust gas. Exhaustgases passing through the catalytic converter may cause it to operate at a very high temperature. The introduc-tion of large amounts of unburned gaso- line into the exhaust may cause the catalytic converter to overheat andcreate a fire hazard. This risk may be reduced by observing the following: WARNING:
o Use unleaded fuel only.
o Maintain the engine in good op- erating condition. Extremely high catalytic converter tempera-tures can result from improper operation of the electrical, igni- tion or multiport electronic fuelinjection.
o If your engine stalls, pings, knocks, or is hard to start, have your Hyundai dealer inspect and repair the problem as soon aspossible.
o Avoid driving with a very low
fuel level. Running out of gaso-line may cause the engine to misfire and result in damage to the catalytic converter.
o Avoid idling the engine for peri-
ods longer than 10 minutes.
o The vehicle should not be pushed or pulled to get started. This may cause the catalyticconverter to overheat and cre- ate a fire hazard.
Catalytic Converter
OGK076501
o Do not touch the catalytic con-
verter or any other part of the exhaust system while the cata- lytic converter is hot. Shut off the engine, wait for at least one hourbefore touching the catalytic con- verter or any other part of the exhaust system.
o Remember that your Hyundai dealer is your best source of as-sistance.
o Do not stop your Hyundai over any combustible material suchas grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials might contact the hot catalytic converter and afire might result.
