Manual gearboxEnsure that the gear lever is in the neutral position.
Do not touch the accelerator.For Diesel engines: Turn the key to the drive position. Wait for the preheater warning lamp to go off, if this has come on.
Turn the key to action the starter (not for more than ten seconds), until the engine starts.
In ambient temperatures lower than 0 °C, depress the clutch while actioning the starter to facilitate starting. Then release the clutch pedal slowly.

ESP
Operating
It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition.
While the ESP system is active, t h e w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s .
For a malfunction
When the vehicle is moving, the lighting of this warning lamp indicates a system malfunction.
Contact a CITROËN dealer.
Function deactivated
The warning lamp remains con-tinuously on.
Front passenger's airbag deactivation

ABS system
The ABS warning lamp lights up when you switch on the ignition: it should go out after a few seconds.

The system tells you the status (active or inactive) of the function. Modify this status with a press on E.Then please wait for the display to disappear.Note: The activation/deactivation registers immediately.

Check that the windscreen and rear wipers can operate freely when f o r e x a m p l e a b i c y c l e - c a r r i e r i s fi t t e d , o r i n f r e e z i n g c o n d i t i o n s .
Remove any accumulation of snow at the base of the windsc reen.
Changing the wiper blades
If you have toreplace them, the wiper blades have to be parked in the maintenance position. For this, switch off the ignition and then within one minute move the wiper control stalk. The wipers stand up in a vertical position.
After replacement, switch on the ignition and move the wiper control stalk so that the wipers resume their normal position.
A. Windscreen wash
To operate the windscreen wash, pull the wiper stalk towards you.
The screen wash is accompanied by a timed wipe of the windscreen, the headlamp wash also activates if the dipped beams are on.
B. Rear screen wipe
First notch
Off.
Second notch
Intermittent rear wipe.
Third notch
Timed rear wash/wipe.
Automatic wipe
When the windscreen wipers are operational and reverse gear is engaged.
Activation/deactivation of this function is possible in the menu " P e r s o n a l i s a t i o n / C o n fi g u r a t i o n " i n the "Main menu".
Deactivation may be necessary when a bicycle-carrier is installed on the tailgate.

Reverse gear
Do not select reverse gear until the vehicle is completely stationary.
Depress the clutch pedal and wait a few moments before gently engag-ing reverse gear.

The Electronic Gearbox System gives you the choice of two driving modes:Automatic mode.
Manual mode with two control possibilities: The controls under the steering wheel 1 and the selection lever 2 on the central console.
Selection lever for Electronic gearbox operating mode:Automatic operation with the gear lever 2 in position A.
Remark: Instant manual mode activates whenever you action one of the controls under the steering wheel 1.

Starting the vehicleApply the brake pedal. The lever should be in position N. Switching on the ignition will in any case return you to position N (neutral).
Check the gear engaged on the instrument panel.
As required, select 1 gear or reverse gear (the engine must be at idle).Release the handbrake.
Lift your foot from the brake pedal and accelerate.
