Bonnet strut
OPENING THE BONNET
To close
Lower the bonnet and release it at the
end of its travel. Check that the bonnet
is properly locked.
From inside: pull the handle
A , on the
right-hand side below the door, towards
you.
From outside: move the catch to the
left then raise the bonnet. Secure the strut in its housing to hold
the bonnet open.
Before closing the bonnet, replace the
strut in its clip.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
Protection system which also provides
access for checking the various levels
of the engine components.
I f y o u r u n o u t o f f u e l , fi l l t h e t a n k a n d o p -
erate the starter until the engine starts.
Several attempts must be made before
the engine re-starts.

CHECKING LEVELS Brake fluid level To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew
the cap by two turns to allow the
pressure to drop. When the pressure
has dropped, remove the cap and top
up the level.
Oil level The reading will only be correct
if the vehicle is on level ground
and the engine has been off for
more than 15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when
the ignition is switched on using the oil
level indicator on the instrument panel,
or using the dipstick.
Between two oil changes, the con-
s u m p t i o n s h o u l d n o t e x c e e d 0 . 5 l i t r e
per 600 miles (1,000 km). T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d b e
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
marks.
If it is not, check the brake pad
wear.
Draining the circuit
Refer to the servicing booklet for details
of the interval for this operation.
Coolant level
The coolant level must be
measured when the engine is
cold and should be between
the “LOW” and “FULL” marks.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is regulated
by the fan. This can operate with the ig-
nition off.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n m a y
operate after the vehicle has been
switched off, even if the engine is
cold.
In addition, as the cooling system is
pressurised, wait at least one hour after
switching off the engine before carrying

the use of additives in the engine oil is
prohibited.

wise indicated.

Diesel additive level (Diesel
with particle emission filter)
The minimum level of this additive is in-
dicated by lighting of the service warn-
ing light, accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the multifunc-
tion display.
Topping up
It is imperative that this additive is
topped up by a CITROËN dealer with-
out delay.
Used products CHECKS
Battery Check the electrolyte level
regularly. If necessary, top up
the level with distilled water.
Check that the terminals are
clean and correctly tightened,
particularly in summer and winter.
When carrying out work on the battery,
refer to the “Practical information” sec-
tion for details of the precautions to be
taken before disconnecting the battery
and following its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger
compartment filter Refer to the servicing booklet
for details of the replacement
intervals for these compo-
nents.
Depending on the environ-
ment (e.g. dusty atmosphere) and the
use of the vehicle (e.g. city driving), re-
place them twice as often if necessary
(refer to the “Engines” paragraph).
A c l o g g e d p a s s e n g e r c o m p a r t m e n t fi l -
ter may have an adverse effect on the
performance of the air conditioning sys-
tem and generate undesirable odours. Oil filter

Avoid any prolonged contact of
u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s w i t h t h e s k i n .

to health or indeed very corrosive.

Brake pads Brake wear depends on the
style of driving, particularly in
the case of vehicles used in
town, over short distances. It
may be necessary to have the
condition of the brakes checked, even
between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak on the circuit, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn. Brake disc wear status
For any information relating
to checking of the brake
disc wear status, contact a
CITROËN dealer.
Handbrake If the handbrake travel is too
long or if you notice a loss of
effectiveness of this system,
the handbrake must be
adjusted, even between two
services.
This system must be checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Only use products recommended by
CITROËN or products of equivalent
q u a l i t y a n d s p e c i fi c a t i o n s . In order to optimise the
operation of units as important
as the braking system,
CITROËN selects and offers very
s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compartment is
strictly prohibited.

After changing a wheel
When using the “space-saving”
s p a r e w h e e l , d o n o t e x c e e d a s p e e d
of 50 mph (80 km/h).
Have the tightening of the bolts and
the pressure of the spare wheel
checked by a CITROËN dealer
without delay.
Have the punctured wheel repaired
and replace it on the vehicle as soon
as possible.
Fitting the wheel
List of operations
Lower the vehicle fully.
Fold the jack 2 and detach it.
Lock the anti-theft bolt using the
wheelbrace 1 fi t t e d w i t h t h e a n t i -
theft socket 5 .
Lock the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
Store the tools (refer to the
paragraph “Access to the tools”).
Fitting snow tyres
If you equip your vehicle with snow
t y r e s fi t t e d o n s t e e l w h e e l r i m s , i t
is imperative that special bolts
available from your CITROËN dealer
are used.
Put the wheel in place on the hub.
Screw in the bolts by hand to the
stop.
Pre-tighten the anti-theft bolt using
the wheelbrace 1 fi t t e d w i t h t h e a n t i -
theft socket 5.
Pre-tighten the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.

CHANGING A FUSE
Access to the tools
T h e e x t r a c t i o n p l i e r s a r e i n s t a l l e d i n t h e
e n g i n e c o m p a r t m e n t f u s e b o x .
To gain access to them:
Open the bonnet (refer to the «Ac-
cess» section),
Press on the hook A and release
the catch,
Remove the cover completely,
Remove the pliers B . CITRÖEN will not accept re-
sponsibility for the cost incurred
in repairing your vehicle or for
rectifying the malfunctions resulting
from the installation of accessories
not supplied and not recommended
by CITRÖEN and not installed in ac-
cordance with its instructions, in par-
ticular when the consumption of all of
the additional equipment connected
e x c e e d s 1 0 m i l l i a m p e r e s . Your vehicle’s electrical system is
designed to operate with standard
or optional equipment.
Before installing other electrical
equipment or accessories in your
vehicle, contact a CITRÖEN dealer.
Changing a fuse
Before changing a fuse, the cause of the
f a i l u r e m u s t b e i d e n t i fi e d a n d r e c t i fi e d .
Identify the faulty fuse by checking
t h e c o n d i t i o n o f i t s fi l a m e n t .
U s e t h e s p e c i a l p l i e r s t o e x t r a c t t h e
fuse from its location.
Always replace the faulty fuse with
a fuse of the same rating.
Check the correspondence between
t h e n u m b e r e t c h e d o n t h e b o x , t h e
rating etched on the top and the ta-
bles below. Correct

The spare fuses are located on the
e n g i n e c o m p a r t m e n t f u s e b o x c o v e r .

The battery A is located under the
bonnet on the left.
To gain access to it:
open the bonnet using the interior
l e v e r , t h e n t h e e x t e r i o r l e v e r ,
secure the bonnet strut.
BATTERY
Access to the battery
Connect the red cable to the positive
t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A ,
then to the positive terminal (+) of
the slave battery B .
Connect one end of the green or
black cable to the negative terminal
(-) of the slave battery B .
Connect the other end of the green
or black cable to an earth point C
on the broken down vehicle, as
far as possible from the battery
( f o r e x a m p l e , r i g h t - h a n d e n g i n e
mounting).
Start the engine of the assisting
vehicle.
Operate the starter, let the engine
run.
Wait until the engine returns to idle
and disconnect the cables.
Raise the front of the cover 1 to
release the three clips 2 .
Then pull the cover 1 towards you
to release the clip 3 and remove the
cover.
Check the electrolyte level regularly.
If necessary, top up the level with
distilled water.
