Here are some tips for getting the most out of your child
restraint:
²Before buying any restraint system, make sure that it
has a label certifying that it meets all applicable Safety
Standards. The manufacturer recommends that you
try a child restraint in the vehicle seats where you will
use it before you buy it.
²The restraint must be appropriate for your child's
weight and height. Check the label on the restraint for
weight and height limits.
²Carefully follow the instructions that come with the
restraint. If you install the restraint improperly, it may
not work when you need it.
²The second row outside seating positions and all third
row seats have cinching latch plates. The second row
center position has an Automatic Locking Retractor.
These are designed to keep the lap portion tightaround the child restraint so that it is not necessary to
use a locking clip. If the seat belt has a cinching latch
plate, pulling up on the shoulder portion of the
lap/shoulder belt will tighten the belt. The cinching
latch plate will keep the belt tight; however, any seat
belt system will loosen with time, so check the belt
occasionally and pull it tight if necessary. If the seat
belt has an Automatic Locking Retractor, it will have a
distinctive label. Pull the belt from the retractor until
there is enough to allow you to pass through the child
restraint and slide the latch plate into the buckle. Then,
pull the belt until it is completely extended from the
retractor. Allow the belt to return to the retractor,
pulling on the excess webbing to tighten the lap
portion about the child restraint. Refer to9Automatic
Locking Mode9in this section.
²Buckle the child into the restraint exactly as the
manufacturer's instructions tell you.

For vehicles equipped with third row split bench (60/40)
seating, the tether strap anchorage is located on the
seatback behind the center seating position. The hooks in
the rear floor areNOTdesigned to withstand the forces
that may occur during a crash.
WARNING!
An incorrectly anchored tether strap could lead to
increased head motion and possible injury to the
child. Use only the anchor positions directly behind
the child seat to secure a child restraint top tether
strap. Children and infants are safer when properly
restrained in a child restraint system secured in a rear
seating position.

WARNING!
An incorrectly anchored tether strap could lead to
seat failure and injury to the child. In a collision, the
seat could come loose and allow the child to crash
into the inside of the vehicle or other passengers, or
even be thrown from the vehicle. Use only the anchor
positions directly behind the child seat to secure a
child restraint top tether strap. Follow the instruc-
tions for Child Restraint Tether Anchor in this sec-
tion. See your authorized dealer for help if necessary.
Transporting Pets
Airbags deploying in the front seat could harm your pet.
An unrestrained pet will be thrown about and possibly
injured, or injure a passenger during panic braking or in
a collision. Pets should be restrained in the rear seat in
pet harnesses or pet carriers that are secured by seat belts.
ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the engine in
your new vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300
mi (500 km). After the initial 60 mi (100 km), speeds up to
50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable. While
cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the limits
of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in.
Avoid wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear.
The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a
high-quality, energy-conserving type lubricant. Oil
changes should be consistent with anticipated climate
conditions under which vehicle operations will occur. For
recommended viscosity and quality grades, refer to ªEn-
gine Oilº under ªMaintenance Proceduresº in Section 7.
NON-DETERGENT OR STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS

UConnecttTutorial
To hear a brief tutorial of the system features, press the
PHONE button and say ªUConnecttTutorial.º
Voice Training
For users experiencing difficulty with the system recog-
nizing their voice commands or numbers, the UConnectt
system Voice Training feature may be used. To enter this
training mode, follow one of the two following proce-
dures:
From outside the UConnecttmode (e.g., from radio
mode):
²Press and hold the ªVoice Recognitionº button for five
seconds until the session begins, or,
²Press the ªVoice Recognitionº button and say the
9Setup, Voice Training9command.
Repeat the words and phrases when prompted by the
UConnecttsystem. For best results, the Voice Training
session should be completed when the vehicle is parked
with the engine running, all windows closed, and the
blower fan switched OFF.

BluetoothtCommunication Link
Cellular phones have been found to lose connection to
the UConnecttsystem. When this happens, the connec-
tion can generally be re-established by switching the
phone off/on. Your cell phone is recommended to remain
in BluetoothtON mode.
Power-Up
After switching the ignition key from OFF to either ON
or ACC position, or after a language change, you must
wait at least five seconds prior to using the system.

If you ever wish to interrupt the system while it lists
options, press the VR hard-key, listen for the beep, and
say your command.
Pressing the VR hard-key while the system is speaking is
known as ªbarging in.º The system will be interrupted
and you can add or change commands. This will become
helpful once you start to learn the options.
NOTE:At any time, you can say the words CANCEL,
HELP, or MAIN MENU.
These commands are universal and can be used from any
menu. All other commands can be used depending upon
the active application.
For example, if you are in the disc menu and you are
listening to FM radio, you can speak commands from the
disc menu or from the FM radio menu.
When using this system, you should speak clearly and at
a normal speaking volume.The system will best recognize your speech if the win-
dows are closed, and the heater/air-conditioning fan is
set to low.
At any point, if the system does not recognize one of your
commands, you will be prompted to repeat it.
To hear the first available Menu, press the VR hard-key
and say HELP or MAIN MENU.
Commands
The Voice Recognition System understands two types of
commands. Global commands are available at all times.
Local commands are available if the supported radio
mode is active.
Changing the Volume
1. Start a dialogue by pressing the VR hard-key.
2. Say a command (e.g., HELP).

3. Use the ON/OFF VOLUME rotary knob to adjust the
volume to a comfortable level while the voice recognition
system is speaking. Please note the volume setting for VR
is different then the audio system.
Main Menu
Start a dialogue by pressing the VR hard-key. You may
say MAIN MENU to switch to the main menu.
In this mode, you can say the following commands:
²RADIO (to switch to the radio mode)
²DISC (to switch to the disc mode)
²MEMO (to switch to the memo recorder)
Radio AM (or Radio Long Wave or Radio Medium
Wave - if equipped)
To switch to the AM band say AM or RADIO AM. In this
mode, you may say the following commands:
²FREQUENCY (to change the frequency)
²NEXT STATION (to select the next station)
²PREVIOUS STATION (to select the previous station)
²RADIO MENU (to switch to the radio menu)
²MAIN MENU (to switch to the main menu)
Radio FM
To switch to the FM band say FM or RADIO FM. In this
mode, you may say the following commands:
²FREQUENCY (to change the frequency)
²NEXT STATION (to select the next station)
²PREVIOUS STATION (to select the previous station)
²RADIO MENU (to switch to the radio menu)
²MAIN MENU (to switch to the main menu)

Satellite Radio
To switch to satellite radio mode say SAT or SATELLITE
RADIO. In this mode, you may say the following com-
mands:
²CHANNEL NUMBER (to change the channel by its
spoken number)
²NEXT CHANNEL (to select the next channel)
²PREVIOUS CHANNEL (to select the previous chan-
nel)
²LIST CHANNEL (to hear a list of available channels)
²SELECT NAME (to say the name of a channel)
²RADIO MENU (to switch to the radio menu)
²MAIN MENU (to switch to the main menu)
Disc
To switch to the disc mode say DISC. In this mode, you
may say the following commands:
²TRACK (#) (to change the track)
²NEXT TRACK (to play the next track)
²PREVIOUS TRACK (to play the previous track)
²MAIN MENU (to switch to the main menu)
Memo
To switch to the voice recorder mode say MEMO. In this
mode, you may say the following commands:
²NEW MEMO (to record a new memo) Ð During the
recording you may press the VR hard-key to stop
recording. You continue by saying one of the following
commands:
