The remote control allows y ou to l ock or unlock the
vehicle electronically.

The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The r eceiver is locat ed ins ide th e vehicle . Th e maximum
ef fective range depends on several th ings. Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effective range decreases.
If you need to replace the remote contro l, or if you need to have it
repaired, you must see your authorized Audi dealer. On ly then can
you use the key again .
P erson aliz ing the ma ste r ke y
When the ignition is turned off or when the vehicle is locked, various convenience set tings are stored automatical ly and assigned to the
key that was used . The settings assigned to the key are automati ­
cally recalled with you unloc k the vehicle or when you open a door
or when you switch on the igni tion .

The
Remo te co ntrol ke y function must be activated in MMI
~ page 95, so that the settings fo r the driver's seat (including the
settings for the head restraint, steering column , safety be lt height
and exterior mirrors) are saved on the master key through the seat
memory when the vehicle is locked, and are set automatically when
the vehic le is unlock ed.

• If the ignition is switched on, the remote control system is deac ­
tivated .
• The remote control system can be affected by other systems
opera ting in the same frequency range close to the vehicle, such as
mobile tel ephones, television broadcasting stations, etc. •

Folding both outside mirrors in flush

The mirror surfaces a re heated whenever you switch on the rear
window defogger in response to the outside temperature .
We recommend folding the outside mirro rs flat t o help when
parking your vehicle or when maneuvering in very tight spaces .
Tilting the passenger's side out side mirror
When you move the se lector lever into R (Reverse), the mirror on the
front passenge r's doo r (knob turned
to @ => fig. 80) w ill til t slight ly downward
. This make is easier for you to see the curb when you are
b acking in to a parking space.
T he mirror returns to its ini tial position as soon as reverse gear is
disengaged and vehicle speed is above about 9 mph (15 km/h). The
m irror also returns to its initia l position if the switch is moved to the
driver's outside mirror
(0 or Neutral @.
Memory setting for the outside mirrors
When the seat posi tion is saved in memory, the position of the
outside mirrors is saved at the same time
=> page 94 .
Automatic anti -glare for the outside mirrors
T he outside mi rrors dim at the same time as the inside mirror . When
t h e ignition is switched on, the mir rors au tomatical ly dim
depending on the amount of light strik ing the mirrors (such as head­
l ights shining into the vehicle from the rear).
When you turn on the interior l ight, or when y ou mo ve the se lect or
l ever into
R (Reverse), the anti -g lare function stops and the mirrors
r eturn to their original condi tion (n ot dar ken ed).

• Curve d (i. e . convex) mirror sur faces increase your field of view.
Remember that vehic les or other objects w il l appear smaller and
farther away than when seen in a fla t mi rror . If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of fol lowing vehicles when changing lanes, you
cou ld estimate incorrectly and cause an accident .
• I f the mirror housing is moved unintentional ly (for example,
while park ing your vehicle), then you must fi rst fo ld the mirror elec ­
trically . Do not readjust the mirror housing manually. You could
damage the motor which controls the mirro r.
[ i ] Tips
• I f there should be a malfunction in the elect rical system, you can
st ill adjust the outside m irrors by pressing the edge of t he mirror .

Seat memory
Driver's seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for four drivers can be
stored using the memory buttons in the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat, the settings for the
head restraints, safety belt height, steering column and both exte­
rior mirrors can be stored .
Storing and recalling settings
Using the memory buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4, you can store and recall the
settings for four different
drivers => fig. 94.
The current settings are also automatically stored on the remote
control key being used when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings stored on the remote control key being
used are automatically recalled. This function has to be activated in
MMI => page 95.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON/OFF I switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative.
The word
OFF next to the [ON /OFF ! switch illuminates.
All the stored settings are retained. We recommend using the
[ ON /OFF! switch and deactivating the seat memory if the vehicle is only going to be used
temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored. •
Storing and recalling a seat position
Before you can store or recall your seat position, the
[ ON /OFF] button must be engaged (down).
Storing settings
-Adjust the driver's seat => page 87.
-Adjust the head restraint => page 91.
-Adjust the steering column => page 128.
-Adjust both outside mirrors=> page 84. In the tilt-down
position, the passenger mirror can be adjusted to the
preferred position and saved in the seat memory.
-Press the [SET] button and hold it down. At the same
time, press one of the memory buttons for at least one
second.
-Release the buttons. The settings are now stored under
the corresponding memory button.
Recalling settings
-Driver's door open - press the desired memory button .
-Driver's door closed - press the corresponding memory
button until the stored position is reached.
When the vehicle is locked, the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored on
memory buttons 1 to 4 are not deleted. They can be recalled at any
time. When the vehicle is
unlocked , the settings stored on the
remote control key are restored. .,_

If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key, you should save your individual seat posi tion on one of the
memory buttons. You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by pressing the corresponding memory bu tt o n. When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re -assigned to
the remote control key and stored .

To be able to recall the stored settings with the remo te
con trol key, the function has to be activated in
MM/ .
-Selec t Systems in the CAR menu .
-Select Seat adjustment .
-Select Driver's seat.

Steering
Adjusting steering wheel position
The steering wheel position can be adjusted for height
and reach .
First, adjust t he driver's seat correctly.

Rea ch adjustment
Push the switch @forward o r bac kward => fig. 143 . The
steering wheel reach changes for as long as you press
the switch.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) between your chest and the
center of the steer ing wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 inches
(25 cm) from the steering wheel, see if adaptive equipment is avail- able to help you reach the pedals and increase the distance from the
steering wheel.

=> page 87 .
The steering wheel can be adjusted even when the ig nition is turned
Of f. For vehicles w ith seat memory, the individual positions for the
steering wheel can be stored a long with the seat position.
& WARNING
Improper u se of steering wheel adju stment and improper seating
po sition can cause se rious per sonal inju ry .
• Adjust the steering wheel column only when the vehicle is not
mo ving to prevent los s of vehi cle control.
• Adjust the driver' s seat or steering wheel so that there is a
minimum of 10 in ches (25 cm ) bet ween your chest and the
s teering wheel
=> pag e 200 , fig. 216 . If you cannot maintain this
minimum di sta nce , the ai rbag sy stem can not prote ct you prop ­
erly .
• If physical limitations prevent you from s itting 10 inche s (25
cm ) or more from the steering wheel , check with your authori zed
Audi dealer to see if adapti ve equipment i s available .
• If the steering whee l is aligned with your face, the supple­
mental drive r's airbag cannot provide as mu ch pr otection
in an
ac cident. Alway s make sure that the steerin g wheel i s aligned with
your che st .
• Alway s hold the steering wheel with your hand s at the 9 o'clock
and 3 o'clo ck posit ion s to reduce the ri sk of pers ona l injury if the
driv er's airbag deploys.
• Never hold the ste ering wheel at th e 12 o' clo ck position or with
your hand s inside the steerin g wheel rim or on the steering wheel
hub . Holding the steering wheel the wrong wa y can cau se ser ious ..,,

Child restraints on the front seat - some important things to know
- Be sure to read the important information and head the WARNINGS for important details about c hildren and
Advanced
Airbags=> page 243.
Even though your vehic le is equipped with an Advanced Airbag
System, make certain that a ll children, especia lly those 12 years and
younger, a lways ride in the back seat proper ly restrained for their
age and size . The airbag on the passenger side makes the front seat
a potentia lly dangerous place for a child to ride. The front seat is not
the safest p lace for a child in a forward -facing chi ld seat. It can be a
very dangerous place for an infant or a child in a rearward -fac ing
seat.
The Advanced Ai rbag System in your vehicle has been certified to
comply with the Requirements of United States Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard 208 as applicable at the time your vehicle
was manufactured.
The Standard requires the front airbag on the passenger side to be
t urned off ("suppressed") if a chi ld up to about one year of age
restrained in one of the rear -facing or forward -facing infant
restraints l isted in Federa l Motor Vehic le Safety Standard 208 with
which the Advanced Airbag System in your vehicle was certified has
been insta lled on the front passenger seat. For a listing of the child
restraints that were used to certify compl iance with the US Safety
Standard
=> page 245.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF l ight in the instrument pane l te lls you
when the front Advanced Airbag on the passenger side has been
t urned off by the electronic co ntrol unit.
Each time you turn on the ignition, the
PA SS ENGER AIR BAG OFF
light will come on for a few seconds and :
• will stay on if the front passenger seat is not occup ied, •
will stay on if there is a small child or chi ld restraint on the front
passenge r seat,
• will go off if the front passenger seat is occupied by an adult as
r egis tered by the weight-sensi ng
m at => page 229, "Monitoring the
Advanced Airbag System" .
The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on when the contro l unit
detects a tota l weight on the front passenger seat that requires the
front airbag to be turned off.
I f the to tal weight on the front passe nger seat is m ore than tha t of
a typ ica l 1 year -old child but less than the weight of a small adult,
t he fron t airbag on the passe nger side can dep loy (the
PAS SENGER
AIR BAG OFF
light does not come on). If the PASSEN GER AIR BAG
OFF
light does not come on, the front airbag on t he passe nger s ide
has not been turned off by the electronic contro l unit and can
deploy if the control unit senses an impact t hat meets the condi­
tions stored in its memory.
For example , the airb ag m ay deploy if :
• a small ch ild that is heavier tha n a typ ical 1 yea r-o ld child is on
the front passenger seat (regardless of whether the child is in one
of the child seats
l isted => page 245), or
• a child who has outgrown chi ld restraints is on the front
p asse nger seat.
I f the front passe nger airbag is turned o ff, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
light comes on in the instrument cluster and stays on.
T he front a irbag o n th e passenger s ide may
not deploy (the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF l ight does not illuminate and stay lit) even
if a smal l adult or teenage r, o r a passenger wh o is n ot sitting uprigh t
with their back against a non -reclined backrest with their feet on the
vehic le floor in front of the seat is o n the front passenge r seat
=> page 200, "Proper seating pos it ion for the driver".
I f the front passenger airbag deploys, the Federa l Standard requires
the airbag to meet the "low risk" deployment cr iteria to reduce the
risk of injury through interaction with the airbag. "Low risk" deploy­
ment occu rs in those crashes that take place at lower decelerations
