Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes

there is a risk of wheel lock.
N o r m a l o p e r a t i o n o f t h e A B S m a y
make itself felt by slight vibration of
t h e b r a k e p e d a l . Operating fault
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
t h e p r e s s u r e . If this warning light comes
o n , a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u -
dible signal and a message
o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l d i s -
p l a y , i t i n d i c a t e s a m a l f u n c t i o n o f t h e
anti-lock braking system which could
result in loss of control of the vehicle
when braking.
If this warning light comes
on, together with the STOP
and ABS warning lights, ac-
c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e
signal and a message on the instru-
m e n t p a n e l d i s p l a y , i t i n d i c a t e s a
malfunction of the electronic brake
force distribution which could result
in loss of control of the vehicle when
braking.
You MUST stop as soon as it is
safe to do so.
In both cases, contact a CITROËN
dealer.

rims), ensure that they conform to
the manufacturer's recommenda-
tions. Emergency braking assistance

Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h
a p r e t e n s i o n i n g s y s t e m a n d f o r c e
limiter.

front seats in the event of a front
i m p a c t .
D e p e n d i n g o n t h e s e r i o u s n e s s o f t h e
i m p a c t , t h e p r e t e n s i o n i n g s y s t e m
instantly tightens the seat belt
a g a i n s t t h e b o d y o f t h e o c c u p a n t . Fastening
Pull the belt down in front of you
in a steady movement, making
sure that it does not become
twisted.
Press the fastening into its buckle.

Reactivation
These systems are reactivated au-
tomatically each time the ignition is
s w i t c h e d b a c k o n o r f r o m 3 0 m p h
(50 km/h).
Press the "ESP OFF" button again
to reactivate them manually.

T h e d r i v e r m u s t e n s u r e t h a t p a s s e n -
gers use the seat belts correctly and
that they are all restrained securely
before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles
a s t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n -
e r t i a r e e l p e r m i t t i n g a u t o m a t i c a d -
j u s t m e n t o f t h e l e n g t h o f t h e s t r a p
to your size. The seat belt is stored
automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
s e a t b e l t i s r o l l e d u p c o r r e c t l y .
T h e l o w e r p a r t o f t h e s t r a p m u s t b e
p o s i t i o n e d a s l o w a s p o s s i b l e o n t h e
p e l v i s .
T h e u p p e r p a r t m u s t b e p o s i t i o n e d
in the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
i n t o o p e r a t i o n i n t h e e v e n t o f a c o l l i -
sion, emergency braking or if the ve-
hicle rolls over. You can release the
d e v i c e b y p u l l i n g r a p i d l y o n t h e s t r a p
and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the
b o d y a s p o s s i b l e ,
- m u s t r e s t r a i n o n e p e r s o n o f a d u l t size only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- m u s t b e p u l l e d i n f r o n t o f y o u w i t h a smooth movement, checking
that it does not twist,
- must not be transformed or mod- i fi e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s p e r f o r m -
ance. Recommendations for children
U s e a s u i t a b l e c h i l d s e a t i f t h e p a s -
senger is less than 12 years old or
s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e fi f t y .
Never use the same seat belt to se-
c u r e m o r e t h a n o n e p e r s o n .
N e v e r a l l o w a c h i l d t o t r a v e l o n y o u r l a p .
In accordance with current safety
r e g u l a t i o n s , a l l r e p a i r s a n d c h e c k s
must be carried out by a CITROËN
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-

damage.

After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
i s p o s i t i o n e d a n d r o l l e d u p c o r r e c t l y .
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , t h e p r e -
tensioning device may be triggered
b e f o r e a n d i n d e p e n d e n t l y o f t h e a i r
b a g s . T r i g g e r i n g o f t h e p r e - t e n s i o n -
e r s i s a c c o m p a n i e d b y a s l i g h t d i s -
charge of harmless smoke and a
noise, due to the activation of the
p y r o t e c h n i c c a r t r i d g e i n c o r p o r a t e d
in the system.
In all cases, the air bag warning light
comes on.

belts system checked, and if neces-
s a r y r e p l a c e d , b y a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r .

Dynamic emergency braking
In the event of a failure of the vehi-
cle’s main braking system or in an
exceptional situation (e.g. driver tak-
en ill, under instruction, etc) pull and
hold control A to stop the vehicle.
The electronic stability programme
(ESP) provides stability during dy-
namic emergency braking.
If the dynamic emergency braking
malfunctions, one of the following
messages will be displayed on the
instrument panel display:
- "Parking brake faulty".
- "Parking brake control faulty". If a failure of the ESP sys-
tem is signalled by the light-
ing of this warning lamp,
then braking stability is not
guaranteed. In this event, stability
must be assured by the driver by
repeating alternate "pull release" ac-
tions on control A .
The dynamic emergency
braking must only be used
in exceptional circum-
stances. Emergency unlocking
In the event of the electronic parking
brake malfunctioning or the battery
r u n n i n g fl a t , a n e m e r g e n c y m a n -
ual device can unlock the parking
brake.
Immobilise the vehicle, with the
e n g i n e r u n n i n g , b y e n g a g i n g fi r s t
gear (manual gearbox) or posi-
tion P (automatic gearbox), then
switch off the engine.
If it is impossible to immobilise the vehicle, do not action the
control and urgently contact a
CITROËN dealer.

- The hill start assist is unavailable.
- The electronic parking brake is only available manually.
3 Display of messages "
Parking brake faulty "
and " Anti roll-back fault " and of the follow-
ing warning lamp: - The manual unlocking of the electronic parking brake is u
na-
vailable.
- The hill start assist is unavailable.
- The automatic functions and manual application are stil l avail-
able.

R if the vehicle is not sta-
tionary.
If, while the vehicle is mov-
ing, position N is engaged inad-
vertently, allow the engine to idle
before engaging position D or M .
Moving off
To start the engine, the selector
has to be in position P or N .
Action the starter.
When the engine is running,
place the selector on R , D or M
as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
Release the brake pedal and ac-
celerate.
To avoid incoherence between
the position of the selector and
the actual position of the gear-
box, always exit from position P
when you switch on the ignition
and press the brake pedal.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the selector in position P ,
put your foot on the brake ped-
al and then select the gear you
want. Park
This position of the selector
is used to prevent the vehi-
cle from moving when you
are stationary.
To select position P, move the
selector back to the highest po-
sition (towards R ), then push it
forwards and then to the left.
To exit position P , move the se-
lector to the right and then to the
position you want.
Only engage this position when
the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the selector is correctly po-
sitioned. Reverse gear
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Neutral Never select position N if
the vehicle is moving.
