Release
The electronic parking brake releas-
es automatically and progressive-
ly when you press the accelerator:
with a manual gearbox ( fi r s t
gear or reverse gear engaged) ,
press down fully on the clutch

celerate with the selector in posi-

function screen. Activation/Deactivation of the
automatic functions
The automatic application when the en-
gine is switched off and the automatic
release when you press the accelerator
can be deactivated. Activation/deactiva-
t i o n i s p e r f o r m e d u s i n g t h e c o n fi g u r a t i o n
menu of the multifunction screen. To do
s o , s e l e c t " P e r s o n a l i s a t i o n / C o n fi g u r a t i o n /
D e fi n e t h e V e h i c l e p a r a m e t e r s / D r i v i n g
assistance/Automatic handbrake".
The deactivation of these
f u n c t i o n s i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e
lighting of this warning lamp
on the instrument panel.
With the automatic functions deacti-
vated, the application and release of
the parking brake are done manually.
The deactivation of the auto-
matic functions is recommend-
ed in particularly cold condi-
tions (ice) and during towing
(breakdown, caravan...)
Manual operation
Manual application/release of the
parking brake is always possible.
Application
With the vehicle stationary, to apply
the parking brake whether the engine
is running or off, pull on control A .
The application of the parking brake

warning lamp P on the in-
strument panel,
- the display of a message "park- ing brake applied" on the multi-
function screen.
When the driver’s door is
opened with the engine
running, a beep is heard
and a message displayed
if the parking brake has not been
applied.

Release
With the ignition on or the engine run-
ning, to release the parking brake,
press on the brake pedal, pull then
release control A .
The full application of the parking
b r a k e i s c o n fi r m e d b y : - the extinction of the warn-ing lamp on control A and
of warning lamp P on the
instrument panel,
- the display of a message "park- ing brake released" on the multi-
function screen.
If you pull control A without pressing
the brake pedal, the parking brake
will not be released and the "Foot on
brake" warning lamp will light up on
the instrument panel.
When stationary, with the
engine running, do not
press the accelerator pedal
unnecessarily, as you may release
the parking brake. Maximum application
If necessary, you can utilise
maxi-
mum application of the parking
brake. It is obtained by means of
a long pull on control A , until you
see the message "parking brake ap-
plied" and a beep is heard.
Maximum application is essential:
- in the case of a vehicle towing a caravan or a trailer, if the au-
tomatic functions are activated
but you are applying the parking
brake manually,
- when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a ferry, in a lorry, during towing),
- in the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or parking on a gradient,
turn the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park,
- after a maximum application, the release time will be longer. Particular situations
In certain situations (e.g. starting
the engine), the parking brake can
automatically alter its force. This is
normal operation.
To advance your vehicle a few cen-
timetres without starting the engine,
but with the ignition on, press on the
brake pedal and release the park-
ing brake
by pulling then releasing
control A .
The full release of the parking brake

warning lamp P (red) on the instru-
ment panel and the display of a
message "parking brake released"
on the multifunction screen.
If the parking brake malfunctions
while applied or if the battery runs
fl a t , a n e m e r g e n c y r e l e a s e i s a l w a y s
possible.

To start the engine, the selector
has to be in position P or N .
Action the starter.
When the engine is running,
place the selector on R , D or M
as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
Release the brake pedal and ac-
celerate.
If the selector is not in position P ,
a message "place automatic
gear-box in position P " appears
on the multifunction screen, ac-
companied by a beep and the
fl a s h i n g o f P on the instrument
panel.
Moving off
To avoid incoherence between
the position of the selector and
the actual position of the gear-
box, always exit from position P
when you switch on the ignition
and press the brake pedal.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the selector in posi-
tion P ,
put your foot on the brake pedal
and then select the gear you
want.
Park
To select position P, move the
selector back to the highest po-
sition (towards R ), then push it
forwards and then to the left.
To exit position P , move the se-
lector to the right and then to the
position you want.
Only engage this position when
the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the selector is correctly posi-
tioned. Reverse gear
Neutral
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Never select position
N if
the vehicle is moving.
Never select positions P or
R if the vehicle is not sta-
tionary.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M .
This position of the selector
is used to prevent the vehi-
cle from moving when you
are stationary.

that the sensors are not covered
with mud, ice or snow. When re-
verse gear is engaged, an audible
signal (long beep) indicates that
the sensors may be dirty.
Press button A again, the warn-
ing light switches off, the system
is reactivated.

Deactivation
Press button A , the warning light
comes on, the system is fully de-
activated.
The system will be deactivated au-
tomatically when a trailer is being
towed or when a bicycle carrier is
fi t t e d ( v e h i c l e fi t t e d w i t h a t o w b a r
or bicycle carrier recommended by
CITROËN). Operating fault
If an operating fault occurs, this warn-
ing light is displayed on the instrument
panel and/or a message appears on
the multifunction display, accompa-
nied by an audible signal (short beep),
when reverse gear is engaged.

Removal
Remove the protective cover by
u n c l i p p i n g fi r s t p o i n t 1 , then 3
and 4 .
Unclip point 2 pulling towards
you, then lift.

Clip point 2 fi r s t .
Lower the cover, centring it.
Clip points 1 and 4 , pushing ver-
tically and slightly rearwards.

bleed screw or the water-in-diesel-
fuel sensor, which is located at the

Brake pads Brake wear depends on
the style of driving, par-

Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a

In order to optimise the operation
