"Foot on brake" T h e fl a s h i n g o f t h i s w a r n i n g
lamp on the display informs
you that you need to press
the brake pedal in order to
be able to start the engine on a ve-
hicle with the (6-speed) Electronic
Gearbox System, or to quit position P
in the case of an automatic gearbox.
This warning lamp comes on if you
attempt to release the electric parking
brake without pressing the brake
pedal.
In the case of the Electronic Gearbox
S y s t e m , t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s
to indicate overheating of the clutch
if you excessively use the accelera-
tor to hold the vehicle on an uphill
slope. Use the brake pedal or the
electric parking brake.
Parking space available
This warning lamp comes
on when the parking space
function is selected.
I t fl a s h e s w h i l e t h e s p a c e i s
being measured. Electric child lock
If lit, the child lock is activated.
This warning light is dis-
played a few seconds after
the function is activated.
Deactivation warning lights
If one of the following warning lights
c o m e s o n , t h i s c o n fi r m s t h a t t h e
corresponding system has been
switched off intentionally.
Dynamic stability control (ESP/
ASR) deactivation.
The ESP/ASR system is put
into service automatically
when the vehicle is started. Warning lights
Diesel engine pre-heating
Wait until this is switched off before
operating the starter. A s p e c i fi c b u t t o n , l o c a t e d i n t h e c e n -
tre of the fascia, permits deactiva-
t i o n o f t h e s y s t e m . T h i s i s c o n fi r m e d
by continuous lighting of this warning
light and of the indicator light on the
button.
From approximately 30 mph (50 km/h),
the system is reactivated automati-
cally.
When the engine is running or the ve-
hicle is moving, the lighting of one of
the following warning lights indicates
the occurrence of a fault requiring in-
tervention on the part of the driver.
Any fault resulting in the display-
ing of a warning light must be the
subject of further diagnostics by
reading the associated message
on the multifunction display.
Should you encounter any prob-
lems, do not hesitate to contact a
CITROËN dealer.
Passenger’s air bag system
deactivation
The passenger’s air bag sys-
tem is put into service auto-
matically when the vehicle is
s t a r t e d . A s p e c i fi c c o n t r o l , l o -
cated in the glove box, permits deacti-
v a t i o n o f t h e s y s t e m . T h i s i s c o n fi r m e d
by continuous lighting of this warning
light on the instrument panel or a mes-
sage on the NaviDrive multifunction
screen.

Lighting is associated
with the displaying of
another warning light:
Service
If this comes on, it indi-
cates the occurrence of a
problem in one of the sys-
tems which does not have
a s p e c i fi c w a r n i n g l i g h t .
In order to identify it, consult the message
on the multifunction display.
The warning light only comes on
temporarily in the case of the follow-
ing minor faults:
- incorrect closing of the doors, boot, rear screen and bonnet,
- fl a t r e m o t e c o n t r o l b a t t e r y ,
- incorrect tyre pressure,
- the end of saturation of the particle e m i s s i o n fi l t e r ( D i e s e l ) .
In the case of major faults, the warn-
ing light remains on until the operating
f a u l t i s r e c t i fi e d , c o n t a c t a C I T R O Ë N
dealer as soon as possible. Braking
If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
one of the braking systems:
- s i g n i fi c a n t d r o p i n t h e l e v e l i n t h e circuit,
- electronic brake force distribu- tion (EBFD) faulty (simultane-
ous lighting of the ABS warning
light),
stop the vehicle immediately and as
safely as possible.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Application/Release of the
automatic electronic parking brake
If this warning lamp comes
o n p e r m a n e n t l y , i t i s c o n fi r m -
ing that the parking brake is
applied.
I f i t fl a s h e s , i t i s i n d i c a t i n g a n a p -
plication or release fault. Urgently
contact a CITROËN dealer (see sec-
tion "Driving - § Electronic parking
brake"). Automatic electronic parking
brake fault
This warning lamp comes
on if there is a malfunction
in the automatic electronic
parking brake.
Deactivation of the automatic
functions of the automatic
electronic parking brake
This comes on if the "auto-
matic application" and "au-
tomatic release" functions
when you switch off the
engine are deactivated or
faulty.
Dynamic stability control
(ESP/ASR) The ESP/ASR system is put
into service automatically
when the vehicle is started.
Unless the system has been
deactivated, if this warning light
and the indicator light on the button
come on continuously, this indicates
the occurrence of a fault in the ESP/
ASR system or in the hill start as-
sistance.
Engine autodiagnostics system
If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
the engine management
system.
I f i t fl a s h e s , i t i n d i c a t e s t h e o c c u r r e n c e o f
a fault in the emission control system.
Central alert
- punctured wheel,
- braking,
- coolant temperature,
stop the vehicle immediately and as
safely as possible.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) If this comes on, it indicates
the occurrence of a fault in
the anti-lock braking system.
However, this does not prevent op-
eration of the vehicle's assisted
braking.

TYRE UNDER-INFLATION DETECTION

the tyre pressure during driving and
trigger a warning in the event of
malfunction (speed above 12 mph
(20 km/h)).
Flat tyre T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system is an aid to driving which
does not replace the need for the
driver to be vigilant or to drive
responsibly. Puncture
The service warning light
comes on on the instru-
ment panel, accompanied
by an audible signal and
a message on the multi-
function display locating
the wheel concerned.
Check the tyre pressures as soon as
possible. This check must be carried
out when the tyres are cold. The STOP warning light
comes on on the instrument
panel, accompanied by an
audible signal and a mes-
sage on the multifunction
display locating the wheel
concerned
.
Stop immediately, avoiding any sudden
movement of the steering wheel and
the brakes
.
Change the damaged wheel (punctured
o r v e r y d e fl a t e d t y r e ) , a n d h a v e t h e t y r e
pressure checked as soon as possible
.
Sensor(s) not detected or faulty
The service warning light
comes on on the instru-
ment panel, accompanied
by an audible signal and
a message on the multi-
function display locating
the wheel or wheels which are not
detected or indicating a fault in the
system.
Have the faulty sensor(s) checked
by a CITROËN dealer. All repairs and changing of tyres
o n a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h i s s y s t e m
must be carried out by a CITROËN
dealer.
If, when changing a tyre, you
install a wheel which is not detect-
e d b y y o u r v e h i c l e ( e x a m p l e : fi t t i n g
of snow tyres), you must have the
system reinitialised by a CITROËN
dealer.
This system does not eliminate
the need to have the tyre pres-
sure checked regularly (refer to the
" T e c h n i c a l d a t a - § I d e n t i fi c a t i o n
features" section) to ensure that the
optimum dynamic performance of
the vehicle is maintained and pre-
vent premature wear of the tyres,
particularly in arduous driving con-
ditions (heavy load, high speed).
The tyre pressures must be
checked cold, at least once a
month. Remember to check the
pressure of the spare wheel.
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
s y s t e m m a y e x p e r i e n c e t e m p o r a r y
interference due to radioelectric
emissions on a frequency close to
that used by the system.
This message is also displayed
when one of the wheels is away
from the vehicle (being repaired) or
when one or more wheels without a
s e n s o r a r e fi t t e d .

BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS
Group of supplementary systems
which help you to obtain optimum
braking in complete safety in emer-
gency situations:
- the anti-lock braking system (ABS),
- the electronic brake force distri- bution (EBFD),
- the emergency braking assis- tance (EBA).
Anti-lock braking system
and electronic brake force
distribution
Linked systems which improve the
stability and manoeuvrability of your
vehicle when braking, in particular
on poor or slippery surfaces.
Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
there is a risk of wheel lock.
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibration of
the brake pedal. Operating fault
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
the pressure. If this warning light comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multi-function display,
it indicates a malfunction of the anti-
lock braking system which could
result in loss of control of the vehicle
when braking.
If this warning light comes on,
together with the STOP and
ABS warning lights, accom-
panied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction
display, it indicates a malfunction of
the electronic brake force distribution
which could result in loss of control of
the vehicle when braking.
You MUST stop as soon as it is
safe to do so.
In both cases, contact a CITROËN
dealer.
When replacing wheels (tyres and
rims), ensure that they conform to the
manufacturer's recommendations. Emergency braking assistance
System which, in an emergency,
enables you to obtain the optimum
braking pressure more quickly, thus
reducing the stopping distance.
Activation
It is triggered by the speed at which
the brake pedal is pressed.
The effect of this is a reduction in
the resistance of the pedal and an
i n c r e a s e i n b r a k i n g e f fi c i e n c y .
When braking in an emergency,

TRAJECTORY CONTROL SYSTEMS
Anti-skid regulation (ASR) and
electronic stability programme
(ESP)
The anti-skid regulation optimises
traction to prevent skidding of the
wheels, by acting on the brakes of the
driving wheels and on the engine.
The electronic stability programme
acts on the brake of one or more
wheels and on the engine to keep
the vehicle on the trajectory required
by the driver.
Activation
These systems are activated auto-
matically each time the vehicle is
started.
They come into operation in the event
of a grip or trajectory problem. T h i s i s i n d i c a t e d b y fl a s h i n g
of this warning light on the
instrument panel. Disarming
I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
vehicle which is bogged down, stuck
in snow, on soft ground, ...), it may
be advisable to disarm the ASR and
ESP systems, so that the wheels
can move freely and regain grip.
Press the "ESP OFF" button, lo-
cated in the centre of the fascia. Reactivation
These systems are reactivated au-
tomatically each time the ignition is
switched back on or from 30 mph
(50 km/h).
Press the "ESP OFF" button again
to reactivate them manually.
If this warning light comes
on on the instrument panel
and the indicator light on the
button comes on, this indi-
cates that the ASR and ESP
systems are disarmed. Operating fault
If this warning light comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multifunction display,
this indicates a malfunction of these
systems.
Have the systems checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
T h e E S P / A S R s y s t e m s o f f e r e x -
ceptional safety in normal driving,
but this should not encourage the
d r i v e r t o t a k e e x t r a r i s k s o r d r i v e a t
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
dations regarding the wheels (tyres
and rims), the braking components,
the electronic components and the
CITROËN assembly and operation
procedures.
After an impact, have these systems
checked by a CITROËN dealer.

The electronic parking brake com-
bines 2 operational modes:
- AUTOMATIC
Automatic application when the engine stops and automatic re-
lease on use of the accelerator
(automatic operation by default),
- MANUAL
Permanent manual application/ release of the parking brake is
possible by pulling control A
while pressing the brake pedal. Automatic operation
