Radio operation
Switching range
Your radio is equipped with a receiver for the
FM and AM bands. There are 6 memory
locations in the FM 1, FM 2 and TP ranges
and in the AM range there are 6 memory
locations each in AM 1 and AM 2. The selec-
ted range is shown in the display, item .
When the AM band is scanned, stations are
sought on the LW band and the MW band
successively.
Switch-over AM - FM:
• By depressing A/F button \b for a few
moments, switches your appliance
between the bands AM and FM. In each
case the last program heard is set.
Switching between FM 1 and FM 2
(Display = FM) :
• Press the A/Fbutton \bbriefly to switch
between the ranges FM 1 (memory loca-
tions 1 to 6) and FM 2 (memory locations
7 to 12). Here the program last heard in
this range is set.
Switching between AM 1- AM 2
(Display = AM):
• Press the A/Fbutton \bbriefly to switch
between the AM 1 and AM 2 ranges.
Here, the program in this range which was
last heard is set.
Switching to TP (radio traffic service
active, display ):
• Press the TPbutton briefly to switch to
the TP Range (Traffic Program). In this
range only programs with radio traffic ser-
vice (TP programs) can be set. Traffic
announcements are broadcast always in a
minimum volume which can be set in the
set-up menu. The reports also interrupt
the CD playback. After the traffic report,
the appliance switches back to the pre-
vious operating state. TP programs are indicated in the display
by "TP”. The broadcasting of a traffic report
is indicated in the display by
"
INFOPRGNAME”. If there is no longer any
reception for the set TP program, the
appliance switches automatically to the next
TP Program with clear reception. "
NO TPTP
SEEK“ then appears in the display. If you
do not wish to receive any traffic report,
listen to the program you wish in one of the
FM ranges: FM 1 or FM 2.

Radio operation
RDS functions
RDS, (Radio Data System) makes it pos-
sible to show the name of the program
received
23.
During the drive RDS automatically as-
sumes the function of seeking and if
necessary setting alternative frequencies
for the set program to ensure the best
possible reception within a transmitting
range even under unfavourable condi-
tions
23.
Storing RDS Programs
When storing RDS programs, the corre-
sponding station button must not be
pressed until its program name is shown
in the display. This ensures to a large
extent that all RDS data can be evaluated
and stored if required.
T ake care also that no "scroll text” is
shown in the display when storing as this
will be stored instead of the program
name then.
When a stored RDS program is called up,
the corresponding program name appears
23in the display. If the reception of the
stored frequency is not good, the appli-
ance automatically selects an alternative
frequency (best station function) of the
same program.
General Information
In unfavourable conditions, e.g. on moun-
tainous stretches, the appliance checks
alternative frequencies very often. This
may cause momentary muting.
Mode of operation of RDS
In addition to the normal radio signal, an
inaudible digital flow of data is sent with
RDS. This flow contains among other
things the following data:
Program identification (PI Code):
With the PI code, the radio recognises the
program just received.
Program Service Name (PS code):
The PS code transmits the name which is
to be shown in the display
23.
The PS code is used by some programs
to transmit additional information which is
shown in the display.
Alternative frequencies (AF List):
A program is normally transmitted from
several broadcasting stations on different
frequencies. The AF list contains the fre-
quencies which this receiver can set for
this program. T
raffic Broadcast Code (TP
Code = Traffic
Program):
Code for a radio traffic service station.
Announcement Code (T
A =Traffic
Announcement):
With the TA Code, the appliance recog-
nises a radio traffic service announce-
ment. If necessary, the volume of the
appliance is raised and the CD operation
interrupted.
Music / Speech switchover (MS Code)
For spoken programs the MS code
switches the frequency to good speech
intelligibility.
Catastrophe reports
(RDS Code designation =PTY 31)
Catastrophe reports have priority above
all other functions.
EON (
Enhanced information concerning
Other Networks),
Programs which use EON take over traffic
announcements from other programs.
During a report the name of the other pro-
gram is shown
23in the display.

If the radio was operated in TP mode before
switching to CD operation, the traffic
announcements will interrupt the CD playback
and switch over to radio operation for the
duration of the report. Once the traffic
announcements are over, the car radio will
switch automatically to CD operation again.
T emperature-related disconnection
If the temperature in the car radio exceeds
85 °C, a safety disconnection mechanism
switches off the CD player. As soon as the
temperature drops below 85 °C, the compact
disc player is activated again.
Tips on handling CDs
• CDs are very sensitive to scratching. For
that reason do not leave CDs lying around
in your vehicle without protection. Keep the
CDs exclusively in special boxes.
