Theenginecompartmentofanymotorvehicleisapotentiallyhazardousarea.Ifyouarenotfullyfamiliarwithproperrepairprocedures,donotattempttheadjustmentsdescribedonthefollowingpages.Thiscautionappliestotheentirevehicle.
Onlyworkonyourvehicleoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
Ensurethattherearenoopenflamesintheareaofyourvehicleatanytimewhenfuelfumesmightbepresent.Beespeciallycautiousofsuchdevicessuchashotwaterheaterswhichigniteaflameintermittently.
Beforeworkingonanypartintheenginecom-partment,turntheengineoffandletitcooldownsufficiently.Hotenginecompartmentcomponentscanburnskinoncontact.
Bealertandcautiousaroundengineatalltimeswhiletheengineisrunning.Ifworkhastobeperformedwiththeenginerunning,alwayssettheparkingbrake,andmakesuretheshiftleverisinneutralortheselectorleverisinpositionPorN.
Inparticular,beverycarefultoensurethatitemsofclothing(ties,shirt,sleevesetc.),jewelry,longhair,handorfingerscannotgetcaughtintheengine-compartmentblower,fan,beltsorothermovingparts.Theradiatorandradiatorfansareinthefrontofthecar.Thefanscanstartorcontinuerunningasafunctionoftemperature,evenwiththeengineswitchedoff.Carryoutworkintheseareasonlywiththeengineoffandexerciseextremecaution.
YourPorscheisequippedwithanelectronicignitionsystem.Whentheignitionison,highvoltageispresentinallwiresconnectedwiththeignitionsystem;therefore,exerciseextremecautionwhenworkingonanypartoftheenginewhiletheignitionisonortheengineisrunning.
Alwaysplacethevehicleonstablesupportsifworkhastobecarriedoutunderthevehicle.Jacksarenotsuitableforthiskindofwork.
Whenworkingunderthecarwithoutsafetystandsbutwiththewheelsontheground,makesurethecarisonlevelground,thewheelsareblocked,andthattheenginecannotbestarted.Removetheignitionkey.
Donotsmokeorallowanopenflamearoundthebatteryorfuel.Keepafireextinguisherinclosereach.
Incompleteorimproperservicingmaycauseproblemsintheoperationofthecar.Ifindoubtaboutanyservicing,haveitdonebyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.ImpropermaintenanceduringthewarrantyperiodmayaffectyourPorschewarrantycoverage.

EngineOil
Engineoilconsumption
Itisnormalforyourenginetoconsumeoil.Therateofoilconsumptiondependsonthequalityandviscosityofoil,thespeedatwhichtheengineisoperated,theclimate,roadconditionsaswellastheamountofdilutionandoxidationofthelubricant.
Ifthevehicleisusedforrepeatedshorttrips,andconsumesanormalamountofoil,theengineoilmeasurementmaynotshowanydropintheoillevelatall,evenafter600miles(1000km)ormore.Thisisbecausetheoilisgraduallybecomingdilutedwithfuelormoisture,makingitappearthattheoillevelhasnotchanged.Thedilutingingredientsevaporateoutwhenthevehicleisdrivenathighspeeds,asonanexpressway,makingitthenappearthatoilisexcessivelyconsumedafterdrivingathighspeeds.
Iftheconditionsyoudriveyourvehicleinaredusty,humid,orhot,thefrequencyoftheoilchangeintervalsshouldbegreater.
Ifthevehicleisdrivenatahighrateofspeed,climaticconditionsarewarm,andtheloadishigh,theoilshouldbecheckedmorefrequently,asdrivingconditionswilldeterminetherateofoilconsumption.
–Theengineinyourvehicledependsonoiltolubricateandcoolallofitsmovingparts.
Therefore,theengineoilshouldbecheckedregularlyandkeptattherequiredlevel.
–Makeitahabittohavetheengineoillevelcheckedwitheveryfuelfilling.
–Theoilpressurewarninglightisnotanoillevelindicator.Theoilpressurewarninglightindicatesseriousenginedamagemaybeoccuringwhenlit,ifenginerpmisaboveidlespeed.

4.Donotaddfurtherfueloncethecorrectlyoperatedautomaticfuel-hosenozzlehasswitchedoff.Fuelcouldsprayorcouldrunoverinwarmtemperatures.
5.Replacethetankcapimmediatelyafterrefuelingandturnituntilyouhearitandfeelitengage.
Ifyoulosethetankcap,youmustreplaceitonlywithanoriginalparttoreducethepossibilityofareintheeventofacollision.
